Sweden: The Eurovision facilities in Malmö are being vandalised!

There is no doubt that the protracted turmoil in the Middle East has had an impact on the Eurovision Song Contest this year in a number of ways. A few examples are the arguments regarding Israel’s participation and the Palestinian-born Bashar Murad’s involvement at the Icelandic national final.

Reactions keep coming in, this time in the contest’s host city .Specifically, one of the billboards advertising Eurovision 2024 that are erected throughout Malmö has been vandalised. In particular, the contest’s slogan, “United by Music”, was written on the sign after it had been covered in red paint, seemingly as a mockery at the EBU’s decision to allow Israel compete. He etched the words “Free Gaza” at the end. The political nature of this year’s competition is practically reinforced by the aforementioned.

In spite of the reactions, Israel participates in the competition with Eden Golan‘s “Hurricane”, which addresses the events of October of last year.

Iceland: Israeli influence behind Hera Björk’s victory!

According to the Icelandic press the Israeli broadcaster KAN is behind the campaign against Bashar Murad.

The Israeli Yogev Segal who organized the campaign against Bashar Murad in Söngvakeppnin, Iceland’s selection show for the Eurovision Song Contest, according to the Icelandic website MANNLÍF, is an employee of Israel’s public broadcaster. Yogev Segal is the founder of a Facebook discussion group for Icelanders who support Israel.

Yogev Segal seems to have urged all members of this group to vote for Hera Björk in the final of Söngvakeppnin 2024. That is, he suggested that Israel’s supporters in Iceland should urge as many people as possible to vote for Hera Björk’s song. It was, according to him, the safest way to ensure that there would be no Palestinian on the stage of the competition in Sweden in May.

Within the aforementioned group, Segal admits to working for Israel’s state television, KAN, which, like the Icelandic one, is responsible for Israel’s participation in Eurovison. He suggests that reporting on his campaign is grist to the conspiracy theory mill. Finally he claims that Israel had no interest in the Icelandic national final.

For the record, Söngvakeppnin 2024 was won by Hera Björk with the song “Scared of Heights”, however this year the participation of the country is not considered certain, as the issue of the conflict in the Middle East between Israel and Palestine and the participation of the former in the competition is a point of friction in Iceland’s public sphere. The final decision on whether the island of ice and fire in Malmö will take part is expected today.

Croatia: Baby Lasagna’s stage performance will be changed for Eurovision 2024!

Baby Lasagna‘s stage appearance in Malmö will not be the same as his performance at the country’s national selection. Given that Croatia is currently leading the betting odds, this is a predicted development.

First off, there will be differenced in the choreography, which is almost finished. Two dancers, Luana Kličić and Sebastijan Žeželić, will accompany the performer on stage. Mihael Žipovski will play the guitar and keyboard. In addition, Matija Klaj is taking over on the drums in place of Baby Lasagna’s brother Val Perum, who will be on tour at the time.

But changes go beyond the choreography. Valentina Pliško created a new outfit specifically for the artist. The performer himself called the outfit traditional, noting that it included features that reflected Istrian culture.

Ireland: RTÉ bombarded by emails against Israel!

RTÉ is bombarded by emails urging the boycott of the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest given the participation of Israel!

The national broadcaster has received over 1400 emails calling for a boycott of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 most of which RTÉ says are related to Israel’s participation.

In addition, the organization itself states that the emails started on January 26, that is, the day when the national final of Ireland, The Late Late Show Eurosong special, was held, emphasizing, however, that about 1000 of them were copy-pastes.

One spokeperson of RTÉ commented that:

“Same content, signed and sent by different emailers”

Calls for Israel to be excluded by Eurovision 2024 organizers due to military operations in the Palestinian territory of Gaza are related to the European Broadcasting Union’s decision to exclude Russia in 2022 due to military operations in Ukraine.

Ireland will be represented at this year’s competition in Malmö by Bambie Thug and the song “Doomsday Blue”. The country will compete in the first half of the first semi-final on 7 May in a bid for one of the ten tickets to the grand final on Saturday 11 May.

Georgia: Nutsa Buzaladze will perform “Fire Fighter” in Malmö!

Georgia‘s public broadcaster GPB announced the title of the song with which Nutsa Buzaladze will represent the country in Malmö. The song is titled “Fire Fighter”.

At the same time, the recent rumours were confirmed, as Darko Dimitrov and Ada Skidka were officially announced as the song’s composers. After an open call to interested artists, the song was selected from about 300 submissions made to the country’s public television.

According to a story published on Nutsa’s personal Instagram account, the Georgian delegation has already started extensive preparations. The director and choreographer have actually already been chosen, as per reports from today’s GPB afternoon programme. They met with the executive in charge of Georgia’s public television today to go over the specifics of the stage performance.

The production of “Fire Fighter” has been completed and the track is expected to be released in the next few days.

Who is Nutsa Buzaladze?

The international songstress from Tbilisi has participated in (and won) many different song contests over her career, including a top 12 finish at American Idol in 2023 where she performed a duet with Kylie Minogue on her classic track “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head”.

In recent years, Nutsa has lived in both Los Angeles (where she wrote, performed and shot music videos) and Dubai (where she signed a contract with Theater Dubai and performed at Expo) but calls Georgia home.

In 2019 she released her debut album under the name Nutsa22, covering not only Georgian songs but also compositions in English, but it was Gelodebi that became her breakout hit leading her to tour the country with a live band.

The impediments of Israel’s Eurovision 2024 participation seem to have been lifted

Up until today, there was uncertainty about Israel‘s participation in this year’s Eurovision. It has been questioned if the country would be able to participate after the EBU rejected two songs because of the political context of their lyrics. But it appears that this problem has been resolved.

The report mentioned above has been published by Ynet, which has previously been the source of numerous leaks regarding Israel’s participation this year. More precisely, the EBU has approved the revised lyrics of the song that KAN, the country’s public broadcaster, submitted, meaning that the impediments have now been lifted, according to sources from the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Hurricane”, the song that Eden Golan will perform in May, was written by  Stav Begar (who co-wrote and produced “Toy”, with which Netta win Eurovision 2018), Avi Ohion, and Keren Ples (who participated on the “The Star Next” judging panel).

The above information remains to be confirmed by the EBU.

Greece: The 3 emojis that best describe Marina Satti’s song!

Just two days before the release of the song, with which Marina Satti will represent Greece in Eurovision 2024, an enigmatic post was posted on @eurovisionert, describing the Greek entry through three emojis.

The number six, that the emoji portrays, is probably meant to represent the word “Dice”, thereby confirming the song’s title. In addition, we see a fire and an ancient monument. The latter is most likely connected to the concept of the video clip, which was filmed in several important locations in Athens, including the Acropolis.

The reveal of the Greek entry will take place this Thursday, at 20:00 CET, in a special show, which will be broadcast on ERT1 and will be hosted by Fotis Sergoulopoulos and Jenny Melita.
