Albania: The reason Elsa Lila did not win Festivali i Këngës 62!

The two FiK winners spoke with Alban Dudushi in the “3D” studio at RTSH yesterday, giving their thoughts regarding this year’s musical festival.

The 62nd edition’s winners were Besa Kokëdhima, who will represent Albania in Eurovision 2024 as the public vote winner, and Mal Retkoceri, who received the FIK 62 trophy from the jury.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rEDP1lSoDQ

Besa Kokëdhima revealed that she hasn’t performed in Albania for a long time, but with the song Zemrën N’dorë, she displayed a different side of her artistic personality.

It was several years since I did music in Albania. I’ve discovered a love that I never would have expected to feel. It goes without saying that people are yearning for both the artistic viewpoint I offer to the music industry and for what I’ve contributed to Albanian music. Consider it perhaps as an excess of nostalgia. The festival makes up for a void in my life. Bessa is who I am and always will be. However, the song also had developments and surprises, even though I didn’t want to start a trend because I’ve done this before. This song needed to be Bessa, it needed to be a new Bessa, and it needed to be something the crowd could relate to.

Mal Retkoceri, on the other hand, addressed the problem of showing his tongue while singing and acknowledged that he had only recently made the decision to begin recording music.

I spent zero euros on my performance. When no one was home, I attempted to record. Leaving them with a surprise was my intention, especially for my mother. It is a piece I wrote for my mum. I interpreted it as though it were her perspective. My sister gave me the mattress, which is a red blanket. My mother asked me, “Who wrote the lyrics?” right away. She was amazed when she found out that I had created it on my own. I told her that the song was written specifically for her after three or four days.

– Why not ? – I don’t know . We have the tongue, we can take it out and put it in. We have that ability as humans”, Mal replied with a laugh.

Along with the two winners, Zana Shuteriqi, a member of the jury, was also present and gave her thoughts regarding the events of the FIK 62 final.

Specifically, Zana Shuteriqi noted that the song’s professional aspects were the first thing the Festival judges considered

Expert panels shouldn’t make aesthetic judgments, instead they should address the prodessional aspects of the songs, which comprise many of its components. People are passionate about what they do, thus the judging panel needs to be objective in its interpretations.

Zana Shuteriqi also gave her thoughts on Elsa Lila’s song, stating that it bore similarities to the one from the previous year.

Despite all of her artistic achievements, Elsa Lila composed a song that was strikingly similar to the winning composition from the previous year. But compared to last year, it was even less successful. There’s not much of a difference between these songs, and Mars wasn’t as good as Evita. Thus, we made an effort to be as unbiased and professional as we could.

She concluded by discussing the assaults that she has been the target of.

Given that not everyone is fond of Mal Retkoceri, I accept criticism directed towards him. The jury was able to discern the festival’s essence, and it is the particular individuals chosen to do this. What more classic choices would you like us to make?

I want to praise Bojken Lako for his spirit, his attitude, and his intent of helping the organizers take one more step—or possibly many steps—after the first night was done. It’s not an issue of honor, the event as a whole introduced a highly empowering perspective.

Switzerland will not be represented by a male ballad at Eurovision 2024!

The head of Switzerland’s Eurovision delegation, Yves Schifferle, disclosed via an Instagram story that this year’s Swiss entry will not be a male ballad.

The country sent ballads performed by male artists to the song contest between 2020 and 2023. That’s about to change after four years. It’s unclear, though, if the performer is going to be a man or what music genre the song that will represent Switzerland in Malmö will fall into.

Five artists vying to represent Switzerland

Almost 420 songs were submitted for the country’s representation at Eurovision 2024. On December 5, five shortlisted artists recorded their songs in the SRF studios in Zurich. After hearing all five songs, a jury and an audience committee consisting of more than a hundred people will make a final decision, early in the new year. In March 2024, the final result will be disclosed, revealing the contestant who will represent Switzerland in the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest.

With his song “Watergun”, Remo Forrer represented Switzerland this year, placing 20th in the Grand Final.

Israel: Everything that happened in the eighth HaKokhav Haba episode!

The eighth episode of HaKokhav Haba (special edition), the talent show through which Israel‘s representative for Eurovision 2024 will be selected, aired on Wednesday, December 20!

In episode eight, five auditions aired and four more artists went through to the next round. Assi Azar and Rotem Sela, who have been hosting HaKokhav Haba since 2014, are the show’s presenters. The jury is made up of Eden Hasson, Shiri Maimon, Itay Levy, Assaf Amdorsky, Ran Dankar, and Keren Pels.

One of the 28 artists that have already qualified for the contest’s subsequent phase will ultimately represent Israel at Eurovision 2024. The presenters announced that the auditions will conclude the next week.

Gal Kafri

Gal is not only a singer and guitarist, but he is also an athlete. More than his voice, the judges remark on his appearance and smile. Gal dedicated the song to his mother. He received 86% of the vote and advanced to the next round despite one judge voting against him.

Or Cohen

Or is a 20-year-old Jerusalem native. She intends to concentrate on music after graduating from college and perhaps compete for Israel in the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest. The judges were left wondering if she might make it to the competition stage due to her emotive voice. Most of them voted in favor. She advanced to the next round with an 83%.

Tahal Perry

Tahal, a 21-year-old from a musical family, has been singing since she was a child. Despite the fact that every judge found her voice appealing and gave her a favorable vote, they believed she lacked experience, which can be a deciding factor in Eurovision. Tahal, though, moved on to the next phase with 79%.

Tamar Ben Zvi

27-year-old Tamar stands out  for her unique musical style. Even with her polished appearance, the judges are unsure if her musical style would be appropriate for Eurovision. Nevertheless, she pulled off a last-minute 77% and advanced to the next round of the show.

In the upcoming episode—the airdate of which is still unknown— additional auditions will be broadcasted. Israel qualified for the finals every year from 2015 to 2020 through HaKokhav HaBa, and Netta won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2018 with the song “Toy”.

Israel was represented this year by Noa Kirel and the song “Unicorn”, which came in third place with 362 points overall.

Italy: Sanremo Giovani: First female victory in 14 years | A sign of things to come at Sanremo 2024?

It’s no secret that, in recent years, the various voting groups of the Sanremo Festival (journalists, television viewers, and the polling committee) have favored male artists over female performers. This appeared to change on Tuesday, December 19, as a female artist won the Sanremo Giovani trophy for the first time in 14 years! Does this portend a female triumph at the 74th Sanremo Festival, which takes place in less than two months?

Clara made history at this year’s Sanremo Giovani. Not only did she secure her spot in Sanremo 2024, but she also accomplished something that no other artist had achieved in over 14 years with her victory in Sanremo Giovani. Or, to put it another way, to defeat every male competitor. The last female winner of Sanremo Giovani was Arisa back in 2009.

Arisa is actually the last female winner of both the San Remo Giovani and regular San Remo Festivals, having won in the established artists category in 2014. Arisa did not represent her country in the Eurovision Song Contest, despite her expressed desire to do so. Unfortunately, 2014 was the only year that RAI selected its Eurovision representative internally, rather than via the historic festival.

It seems like there’s a significant chance of an upset based on the betting and recent reports. It appears that the tradition of the unceasing wins by men can be subverted by three established Italian female artists. With Annalisa in third and Angelina Mango in sixth place, Alessandra Amoroso leads the odds by a significant margin.

We shall be able to figure out with certainty whether a woman will be able to win the Golden Lion for the first time since 2014 on January 15th, when journalists listen the candidate songs for Sanremo 2024.

Do you think a woman will be able to make the upset at Sanremo 2024? Tell us in the comments below!

Marina Satti: “Through my participation in Eurovision I want to showcase Greek culture”

The introductory video for Marina Satti was posted earlier today on Eurovision‘s official social media accounts. In this 15-second video, the artists provide a brief introduction to the European audience.

In this video, the Greek representative stated that she aims to promote Greek culture by taking part in the competition.

More specifically, she stated:

I can’t wait to come to Malmö in May to present our music, our culture, our energy our vibes and our dances!

Based on what she said, we can infer that Marina’s musical identity will be faithfully represented in this year’s Greek entry, which is likely to be energetic and dance with a strong Greek influence.

The song, which Marina Satti will perform in Malmö next May, has not yet been selected. The Greek delegation, however, is working hard to make the necessary preparations in order to achieve the greatest outcome.

Greece: Eurovision 2010 entrant Giorgos Alkaios praises the selection of Marina Satti!

Following ERT‘s announcement in October that Marina Satti will represent Greece in Eurovision 2024, a number of Greek musicians expressed their satisfaction with this choice. Among these artists is Giorgos Alkaios, who, through the Mega show “Akoma den eides tipota” described the choice of Marina Satti as “excellent”.

More specifically, he stated:

Marina Satti is great.

Well done to ERT for their excellent choice.

It’s one of the few occasions in the past few years that ERT has shown that it can finish in the top three or even take the first place. Marina is going to do extremely well, in my opinion.

Giorgos Alkaios represented Greece in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest in Olso, Norway. His song “Opa” placed eighth overall.
