Switzerland will not be represented by a male ballad at Eurovision 2024!

The head of Switzerland’s Eurovision delegation, Yves Schifferle, disclosed via an Instagram story that this year’s Swiss entry will not be a male ballad.

The country sent ballads performed by male artists to the song contest between 2020 and 2023. That’s about to change after four years. It’s unclear, though, if the performer is going to be a man or what music genre the song that will represent Switzerland in Malmö will fall into.

Five artists vying to represent Switzerland

Almost 420 songs were submitted for the country’s representation at Eurovision 2024. On December 5, five shortlisted artists recorded their songs in the SRF studios in Zurich. After hearing all five songs, a jury and an audience committee consisting of more than a hundred people will make a final decision, early in the new year. In March 2024, the final result will be disclosed, revealing the contestant who will represent Switzerland in the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest.

With his song “Watergun”, Remo Forrer represented Switzerland this year, placing 20th in the Grand Final.
