Bosnia & Herzegovina: The country is considering returning in Eurovision 2025!

Bosnia and Herzegovina‘s public broadcaster has said it is considering a return to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2025.

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s public broadcaster, BHRT, is considering a return to the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time after a hiatus of almost a decade. The last time the Balkan country took part was in 2016. In a 2024 schedule, the broadcaster outlined its plans for next year with the announcement of new programs, the discussions around the target audience and it  also made the following statement:

“Also, we think it is high time to consider the possibility of returning Bosnia & Herzegovina’s representatives to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2025.”

This is the first time after almost a decade that BHRT has publicly expressed its desire to return to the Eurovision Song Contest. The country last participated in Eurovision 2016 in Stockholm thanks to private sponsorship support.

The broadcaster had previously confirmed that they were still subject to sanctions by the EBU and would not be taking part in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. Resolving financial issues as well as payments to the EBU remains a critical hurdle for participation in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Greece: The repsonse of the President of ERT to the “Nea” article!

The President of ERT, Constantinos Zoulas, in his reply sent to us a few minutes ago, responds to what the Ambassador of Cyprus in Athens allegedly attributed to him during their meeting, in fact attributing a different content to their discussion, from the one in which is revealed in the “Nea” newspaper.

The Management of ERT did not and apparently is not allowed to have the slightest involvement in the evaluations of the independent jury proposed every year by the Communication Department of ERT for the Eurovision Song Contest. Therefore, it had no involvement both in the first place that Cyprus got from the independent jury of ERT in 2021, and in last year’s evaluation of the Cypriot participation as the 7th best among 26 countries. This is what I explained to the ambassador of Cyprus at our pre-quarterly meeting, – of course on the sidelines of the much more serious issues we discussed – by telling him that those involved in ERT with Eurovision were surprised by CyBC’s decision to represent Cyprus this year with one of the songs that ERT rejected last year. And in this context, I wished that the judgment of this year’s independent jury appointed by ERT would not be the same as the one that rejected the song in question, without anyone – let alone me personally – being able to influence its judgment. Having expressed my great surprise at the fact that the Eurovision Song Contest was the subject of diplomatic information, and indeed at a time when ERT and CyBC have excellent cooperation, I wish great success both to Cyprus and Greece.

With the actual denial of the publication on the part of Constantinos Zoulas, and of the Cypriot Ambassador, you now realize that the continuation of this story is expected to be even more interesting.

We remind you that tomorrow morning the response of CyBC through the head of the country’s delegation to the competition, Ms. Evi Papamichael, is expected.

Spain: The detailed jury results of Benidorm Fest 2024!

The detailed results of the jury of the Bendorm Fest 2024, the national selection show of Spain for the Eurovision Song Contest, were published today.

As it is already known, Nebulossa with their song “Zorra” are going to represent Spain in Eurovision 2024 the coming May.

Eurovision 2024: Massive Nordic police operation ensures security for Eurovision in Malmö!

The final week in early May will, if not the biggest, be one of the biggest police operations in Malmö‘s history. For a whole week, Eurovision enthusiasts from around 80 countries gather to party, rejoice, and follow the competition live at Malmö Arena.

At the same time, protests against Israel‘s participation in the competition are becoming increasingly loud. Many demand that the country be prevented from participating. For the police, this situation means that security around the event must be strengthened. Nils Norling, press spokesperson for the Malmö Police says:

“For the police, Eurovision is a very big operation. Large parts of the personnel of the Malmö police are involved in this command. We also have a lot of people from other parts of Region South, and we will receive reinforcements from other parts of the Swedish Police Force throughout the week.”

Positive about the cooperation

The assessment is that it is not enough. The Swedish police are now seeking assistance from Danish and Norwegian police to reinforce the operation. Nils adds:

“We view their arrival very positively. It not only gives us relief but also the opportunity to train and work together, strengthening Nordic police cooperation. All foreign police officers will be supervised by Swedish officers.”

Collaboration between Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish police has occurred before. Swedish police have supported Danish colleagues in Denmark, and Norwegian police have assisted at football matches in Stockholm.

“It is part of Nordic police cooperation that we can support each other. The way Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian police work is very similar.”

says Nils Norling.

Previous collaborations

Danish and Norwegian police officers come with their own equipment, which may include police vehicles.

“We have previously received help from Danish police and borrowed firefighting vehicles, for example, during the Rosengård riots.”

Nils Norling does not want to disclose how many police officers – Swedish, Norwegian, and Danish – are involved in the command during Eurovision.

“We should not expose ourselves to being identified.”

Focus on the public festival

The police have been preparing for six months for Eurovision week. As the competition approaches, more and more employees have been involved.

“For every week, more people are engaged.”

Nils Norling says that residents and visitors to Malmö will notice a significant police presence in the city during the week of the competition. Throughout the city, there are activities related to Eurovision. In Malmö Arena, there are events almost daily, with finals and semi-finals and double rehearsals before them.

“We can assure everyone in Malmö that there will be a lot of police officers. People living in and visiting Malmö should be able to focus on the public festival. The police will handle security work.”

Eurovision 2024: Activists protest Israel’s Eurovision Participation outside Malmö City Hall

“Long live Palestine!” and “Israel is a terror state” – these slogans resounded outside Malmö City Hall as vocal activists gathered to influence the city’s politicians during the municipal board meeting earlier today, Wednesday, coinciding with the municipal executive board’s consideration of a citizen’s proposal to halt Israel‘s participation in Eurovision.

Today, the board will take a position on citizens’ initiatives aimed at stopping Israel‘s participation in the competition in May. The City of Malmö‘s government has already made it clear on several occasions – it is not up to the municipality to stop countries from participating.

“But they can do something. In that case, the City of Malmö should make a statement that Israel is not welcome in Malmö.”

says Yomn Kadoura, spokesperson for the network Stop Israel to TT and adds:

“And that they send emails to the EBU and say that Israel is not welcome at Eurovision!”

The Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Malmö between 7 and 11 May, and the war between Israel and Hamas has stirred up strong feelings around Europe regarding the music competition. Sydsvenskan has previously reported that Tarabband, Crying Day Care Choir, and Nevergreens have canceled their concerts. Yesterday, Medina also announced their resignation.

The fact that the festivities are surrounded by growing criticism is a concern for the host city. Karin Karlsson, the main project manager for the City of Malmö‘s hosting, told TT last week.

“We want a Malmö where we come out of this in one piece.”

Greece: “Athens is ready to host Eurovision 2025 if Marina wins” says the mayor Haris Doukas!

Invited to the Zoe Pre podcast, the mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, was asked, among other things, about the participation of Marina Satti in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest and the possibility of Greece winning.

Initially the mayor mentioned the invitation to Marina Satti for the celebrations of the New Year in the centre of Athens.

“We had Marina Satti for the New Year’s celebration! I wish her the best of luck and to bring Eurovision in Athens!

Good luck, and we are waiting for the trophy!

Switzerland: “We are ready to host Eurovision 2025” says the head of delegation!

Switzerland could become the venue for Eurovision Song Contest 2025, according to Yves Schifferle, head of delegation of the SRF, to the Contest. We remind you that Nemo represents the country in this year’s Competition and is currently the top favourite to win.

Yves Schifferle expressed enthusiasm for the course of “The Code” in the betting odds, but remains reserved:

“The whole team is really happy about this support, it gives us a boost. It’s still five weeks until the competition and a lot can change before then. We are now concentrating on the performance, rehearsing and still have a lot to do before Malmö”

In addition, he revealed that initial discussions have already begun for a possible event hosting next year, saying:

“We will contact cities that could potentially host the ESC. Cities with large halls and good infrastructure are eligible, for example Zurich, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne or Basel.”

In the end, he referred to the high costs involved in such a large event:

“A strong partner city is needed that undertakes a significant portion of the costs and services. You also receive a financial contribution from the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) and ticket and sponsorship is generated.Producing the biggest music show in the world has a big impact on budget and resources.However, other broadcasters in Europe faced similar challenges and found ways to finance this major event.”

The statements of the Swiss head of delegation show that Switzerland wants and is ready to achieve their third victory after their last one back in 1988 with Céline Dion and the song “Ne partez pas sans moi”.

Nemo is going to participate in the fourth spot of the Second Semi-Final of 9th of May.

The Netherlands: Chantal Janzen and Jan Smit want to present Eurovision again!

Chantal Janzen and Jan Smit want to present the Eurovision Song Contest again if Joost Klein wins the upcoming event in Malmö, Sweden. In an interview with Dutch website Shownieuws, the two said they would find it “very cool”.

When asked if they would consider presenting the competition again, they answered:

–Jan Smit: “That would be certainly fantastic!

-Chantal Janze: “If they asked us, yes, but we don’t really have any influence on that.”

–Jan Smit: “We’d love to and we’ve shown we can do it.”

Jan and Chantal are not the first to aim for the position of presenting the Eurovision Song Contest. Former winner Duncan Laurence also declared his interest earlier this month.

The official video clip of Luxembourg‘s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, in Malmö, Sweden, was released today.

A few hours after the release of the revamped version of the song (here), with which the Grand Duchy returns to the competition after 31 years, the official video clip of “Fighter” was released through the official account of the Luxembourgish representative, Tali, which you can watch below.

Eurovision 2024: Skånetrafiken releases unique tickets adapted for the Eurovision week!

Skånetrafiken, the regional public transport carrier of the region of Skåne – where Malmö is located, is developing two new tickets that are valid when the Eurovision Song Contest will be held in the region!

In the first week of May, thousands of visitors are expected to visit the region Skåne. Skånetrafiken has decided to make it easy for everyone to choose to travel by train and bus and is therefore producing two adapted tickets for the Eurovision week. Both tickets are valid for eight days, 5-12 May. One is valid for the whole of Skåne and the other for over the Öresund Bridge, which connects the city of Malmö with the city of Copenhagen in Denmark, and in the whole of Skåne.

The tickets can of course be bought regardless of whether you are going to see Eurovision or not. 

This is how the tickets work:

  • Eurovision Skåne: Travel unlimited within Skåne for eight days for only 350 SEK (approx. 31 Euros). 
  • Eurovision Skåne/Copenhagen: Travel to and from Copenhagen with the Öresund train and throughout Skåne for eight days for only SEK 700 (approx. 61 Euros). 

Tickets can be purchased from April 15 to May 12 via the app which can be downloaded for Android or iOS devices via Google Play or Appstore respectively!

Update 16:57 CET:

Pernilla Lyberg, Sales and Marketing Manager at Skånetrafiken, says in a press release:

“We want to make it possible for as many people as possible to travel by bus and train. We will strengthen all traffic and have developed two really advantageous tickets.”

Changes to train services during the Eurovision week:

• Extra trains will go to Ystad and Trelleborg during the evenings.

• Some trains that would normally have Lund as their final station will continue to Hässleholm.

• Extra train to Helsingborg in the evening.

• Extra train to Copenhagen on Thursday, May 9th, when Denmark participates in the semi-finals.

Skånetrafiken writes that they also plan to increase the number of buses during the week and have customer hosts on site around Malmö. The customer center at Malmö Central Station will also extend its opening hours during the week.

In addition, skanetrafiken.se will be partially translated into English.
