Finland: These are the hints for the fifth artist of UMK 2023!

Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu‘s official Instagram account has released the first details about the fifth artist who will participate in the Finnish national final!

The speculated artists are JVG, which is a Finnish duo consisting of Jare Joakim Brand and Ville-Petteri Galle, Portion Boys, Ramses II and Mouhous.

The UMK songs will be released from January 12 to 20, one every day, while the artists will be announced on January 11!

The previous UMK winners and Finland’s representatives in Turin were The Rasmus with the song “Jezebel” which finished 21st in the Grand Final:

Finland: These are the clues for the fourth competing artist of UMK 2023!

Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu published earlier today through their official Instagram account the first clues regarding the fourth artist who is going to take part in the Finnish national selection.

The first speculations are about Lxandra who seems to satisfy the requirements. Lxandra is a Finn pop singer and songwriter. Most of her songs have been recorded in the USA and she now has an international carrier.

UMK‘s songs are going to be released from January 12th to January 20th,  one each day, while the artists are going to be announced on January 11th !

Previous UMK winners and  Finland‘s representatives at Eurovision 2022  were  The Rasmus  with the song “Jezebel” and they finished in the 21st  place in the Grand Final:

Estonia: The Semi-Finals Running Order of Eesti Laul 2023 has been revealed!

A short while ago, the Estonian broadcaster announced the running order of the 20 artists who will compete in the two semi-finals of Eesti Laul 2023!

Janek will open the curtain with House of Glass, while Anett and Fredi will be the last to perform in the first semi-final with You Need to Move On. Inger‘s Awaiting You will be the first song to be heard in the Second Semi-Final, which will end with Alika‘s Bridges.

The running order for the Two Semi-Finals is as follows:
First Semi-Final – January 12

  3. Kaw – “Valik”
  4. MERLYN – “Unicorn Vibes”

Eesti Laul 2023

In the semi-finals, five songs (out of ten) from each show will be selected to advance to the Grand Final. Three songs will be chosen by the audience and two by the jury.

In the Grand Final the show will have two rounds of voting. The first round will determine the entries that will advance to the Super Final, 50% by the jury and 50% by the TV audience. There the Estonian representative is selected by 100% televoting .

Eesti Laul 2023 will take place on the following dates:

First Semi-Final – Thursday 12 January
First semi-final – Saturday 14 January
Grand Final – Saturday 11 February

Last year’s winner of Eesti Laul and Estonia’s representative at Eurovision 2022 was Stefan with the song “Hope”. He finished in 13th place in the Grand Final, bringing his country back to the final after an elimination in 2021:

For yet another year, just some hours before the New Year, Eurovision TV reveales the 50 songs that got the most views throught the year, on the contest’s official YouTube channel.

On the list, there are 13 winning songs, while 23 more from the 40 songs that took part in Eurovision 2022.

Georgia: Member of the Junior Eurovision 2011 winner Candy group in The Voice of Georgia!

In the third round of the auditions of the Voice of Georgia, through which the next representative of Georgia in the upcoming Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool will emerge, a Junior Eurovision winner managed to shine.

Specifically, the contestant is Iru Khechanov, one of the members of the Candy group who achieved the second victory of the Caucasian nation at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2011 with the song Candy Music.

Iru Khechanov performed Loren Allred’s song “Never Enough” and managed to turn three out of four coach chairs.

Georgia that debuted in the Contest in 2007 and has only missed the 2009 edition, has not qualified to the grand final of the show since Eurovision 2016, when Nika Kocharov and Young Georgian Lolitaz with the song Midnight Gold ended up 20th with 104 points.

In 2022 in Turin of Italy Georgia was represented by Circus Mircus group and the song Lock Me In but achieved nothing more than finishing 18th and last in the second semifinal with 22 points.

Israel: Out of Eurovision 2023?

Even though Middle Eastern country has already chosen a representative since August 10, Noa Kirel, it seems that this year the country is also flirting with the possibility of withdrawing from the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, in Liverpool of the United Kingdom.

Specifically, according to a report by the Kanal 12 station, the Likud party that won the recent elections in Israel led by Benjamin Netanyahu is considering closing the KAN station, specifically its news department.

From its side, the Likud party commented:

“The issue did not come up in the discussions.”

However, this is not the first time that something like this is discussed, with Benjamin Netanyahu himself already expressing his desire to close the KAN station in 2017.

Should the closing procedures of the state-owned station proceed, Israel will not be able to participate in the upcoming Eurovision 2023 contest.

Norway: A lot of changes in Melodi Grand Prix 2023!

The Norwegian Public Broadcaster has announced some major changes for MGP 2023! There will be no automatic finalists, fewer semi-finalists, but with more artists!

MGP 2023 will be completed into four nights. Three semi-finals and a grand final; that’s the programme of Norway’s national final for Eurovision 2023. MGP 2023 will be hosted by Arian Engebø and Stian ‘Staysman’ Thorbjørnsen, both very popular, both on TV and radio.

100% televoting will be used in the three semi-finals, while in the final there will be, for the first time since 2019, an international jury that will determine 50% of the result.

Seven songs will compete in each semi-final. The first three songs according to the votes will advance to the grand final. There will be no duels, no second chance round.

The 21 artists will be announced on January 4th. On the same day, we will also find out in which semi-final they will compete. Songs will be revealed on a weekly basis. The Grand Final will take place at the Spectrum in Trondheim, where it was held in 2020. The MGP 2023 schedule is as follows:

  • 1st Final – 14/1/2023
  • 2nd Semi-Final – 21/1/2023
  • 3rd Semi-Final – 28/1/2023
  • Final – 4/2/2023

This year Norway was represented by Subwoolfer with Give That Wolf A Banana, which finished in tenth place in the final!

Montenegro: This would have been their entry for Eurovision 2023!

Earlier tonight the American singer ENISA with roots from Montenegro and Albania, and the very first representative of New York at the American version of Eurovision, the American Song Contest, made some announcements regarding the participation that the Montengrin delegation was working on, which never moved on as the Balkan nation chose to withdraw for financial reasons.

Specifically, through her Twitter account, ENISA initially published that she had written her own song entitled OLÈ for this year’s 2022 FIFA World Cup, which is being held from today in Qatar, along with a short video where a snippet of the song can be heard.

Later she re-tweeted the original post adding that this song was intended to represent Montenegro at the Eurovision 2023 Contest in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Greece: Is ERT considering the public voting in song selection for Eurovision 2023?

A publication that shakes up the current situation and, should it has a basis, overturns the developments regarding the selection of the Greek participation in Eurovision 2023. According to the Typologies, ERT is considering a proposal for public voting in the selection process of the song that will represent Greece in the 67th Eurovision Song Contest Eurovision!

In the Paron paper and more specifically in Typologies column, which is the most valid television column of the printed and electronic press, is mentioned that:

“There is a proposal and it is being seriously considered this year by the management of ERT to change the way of selecting the Greek participation in the Eurovision contest of Spring 2023 in the United Kingdom. The proposal is for the television audience to choose which of the songs that entered the final selection round will be the one that will represent the country at Eurovision. According to information, while this idea is considered “commercial” for television viewing, it stumbles in the financial part as additional funds will be required for the production.”

The above mentioned are strongly related to what Maria Kozakou stated after the end of this year’s competition in her television interview on ANT1 and on Grigoris Arnautoglou’s show, The Tonight Show

Maria Kozakou had stated that, after having put Eurovision things in a row, after having made suggestions like Stefania and Amanda in recent years, and since the public has been trained in some way, maybe we could also take into account the public voting in the selection.

“Little by little it [public voting] has to enter the process … the five or the ten best songs should be evaluated by people.”

Denmark: A strong songs line-up for DMGP 2023!

Following the announcement of the hosts (here) of the selection show for Denmark’s Eurovision entry for 2023, Dansk Melodi Grand Prix executive producer Erik Struve Hansen gave a first insight into the nominations.

Through his Facebook account he announced that the sorting of the tracks submitted for DMGP 2023 has already begun, leaving very positive comments on the results so far.

Among the artists who have applied for the Danish national final is Shaya Hansen as she revealed very recently, and you can read more here.

The show consisted only of the Final will take place on February 11, 2023 in Næstved.

This Scandinavian kingdom was represented in 2022 in Turin, Italy by the group REDDI and the song “The Show” but they did not manage to get the coveted ticket to the Grand Final after they were eliminated in the 13th place of the First Semi-Final with 55 points.
