Germany HoD: “We care about Eurovision”
German Head of Delegation for Eurovision, Ms. Alexandra Wolfslast has defended her role and Germany’s most recent participation in the music festival.
Germany’s most recent results in the Eurovision Song Contest have been far from perfect. Ms. Wolfslat has been the Head of the Delegation since 2020. During her term, Germany’s best result was 25th place in 2021 (second last). Furthermore, the Big 5 country ended in last place in the last two editions of the festival.
However, she says that this bad streak is not attributable to a lack of commitment by the public broadcaster. During an interview with The Euro Trip, Ms. Wolflstat talked about Eurovision and Germany’s current plans for the 2024 edition.
“We are trying to do as much as we can. I do hope that people see that we do care and that we’re pulling all the strings to get good contestants in the preselection and to Malmö.”
Germany will choose their representative via their national final Eurovision Song Contest – Das Deutsche Finale 2024, on Friday, February 16, 2024. The public chose one of the contestants for the national final on the show, Ich will zum ESC!
Floryan won this pre-show and will join eight contestants in the German national final. According to the HoD, using this format was part of the 2024 strategy to raise interest from the tv audience for Eurovision
“The normal German only knows about Eurovision in May, so that was one of the reasons to have this format [starting] earlier.”
