Germany: The national final will be broadcasted on March 4!
After ending up five times on 25th place or lower in the last six Eurovision editions, the German national broadcaster decided on organizing a national final to decide Germany’s representative for the 66th Eurovision Song Contest, which will take place in Turin, Italy.
The national final’s name won’t be “Unser lied für Turin“, as expected, but “Germany 12 Points” and will take place on March 4th, while the competitors will be revealed, starting February 10.
An expert jury will pick the best proposals from the 944 songs that were submitted in total, so that they can compete in the final. The jury consists of members of Bayern3, Antenne Brandenburg, Bremen 4, HR 3, MDR Jump, NDR 2, SR 1, SWR 3 and WDR 2. All of them belong to the regional broadcasting network of the German broadcasters. One of the jury members is also Alexandra Wolfslast the Head of the German Delegation in the contest.
After the announcement of the competitors from the jury, the public will have to decide who will end up being the representative of Germany, through an online voting, which will start on February 28, until the day of the final (Friday March 4th), with SMS or calling-in.
The night of the final, where the competitors will sing their songs live, will be hosted by Barbara Schöneberger
Last year, Germany was represented by Jendrik and the song “I Don’t Feel Hate” and ended up in 25th place with 3 points from the juries and none from the public.
