Eurovision 2024: Käärijä and Gunilla Persson among others will perform at Eurovision village!

On Saturday, May 4, what is known as Eurovision Village will open for the first time in Folkets Park in Malmö. After the defections in recent weeks, under pressure due to Israel‘s participation in the competition, the show has started to look sparse on the Eurovision Village stages.

But now the city of Malmö is squeezing in with a long list of new artists with clear Eurovision connections.

The Herreys

The Swedish Eurovision winners from 1984, the Herreys, are ready for a gig on the opening night on May 4 at Folkets Park‘s main stage Euphoria Stage.

Kalush Orchestra and Käärijä

Ukrainian Eurovision winners Kalush Orchestra from 2022 will perform a concert in Folkets Park on the final night on May 11. Also coming will be the Finnish artist Käärijä who was close to winning Eurovision last year with “Cha cha cha“, but was beaten at the finish line by Loreen. Now, he’s coming to the Euphoria Stage on May 10.

Gunilla Persson will also perform

The Swedish Eurodance artists Pandora and Da Buzz will perform a joint concert on the Euphoria Stage on May 5 and the same evening Swedish Hollywood wife Gunilla Persson and Therese “Drömhus” Grankvist will perform a joint concert on the same stage.

Arvingarna

Swedish band Arvingarna has competed several times in Melodifestivalen and won in 1993 with “Eloise“. They will come to Folkets Park on the night of the final, May 11.

More confirmed artists

Also confirmed for Eurovision Village are French Eurovision Song Contest Junior winner Zoé, who charmed viewers last year with “Coeur“, and Norwegian artist Raylee, who has competed in Norwegian Melodi Grand Prix several times. They will perform on May 11 and 4, respectively.

Sweden: Jacqline and Cazzi Opeia are the two direct finalists of the Third Heat of Melodifestivalen 2024!

Ninety minutes ago, the show for the Third Heat of Melodifestivalen 2024, started off on SVT and SVT Play. And we are here to share the results of the night with you!

The two numbers that qualify directly to the finals are Jacqline and Cazzi Opeia which we will get to see perform their songs live, on the 9th of March, when the finals will take place at Friends Arena.

But how things developed during the night?

The experts

New in Melodifestivalen this year is the participation of a couple of really knowledgeable music and Mello-experts – radio and TV profile Tina Mehrafzoon and Mello-oracle Ronny Larsson. During both the races and the final, they analyze the evening’s line-up and give their opinion on how they are doing.

The show

Carina Berg is the host of all the shows of the tour this year! With the next show of the contest on Saturday February the 17th, Melodifestivalen will take place in Växjö, then Eskilstuna follows and finally the final show in Stockholm on the 9th of March.

Carina Berg has Christine Meltzer and Carolina Gynning on stage this week. They had written a new lyric for The Ark‘s “Calleth You, Cometh I“, which is now called “Ringer du kommer vi” (If you call and we will come).

After the intro, Carina presented this show’s contestants!

The numbers

      • “Effortless” – Jacqline

We get a professional, “Effortless” performance, great production, great staging. She reminds me of a mix of Dua Lipa, songs of Little Mix and Alicia Keys vocals. She has a big rectangular prop, red is dominating the staging. At some point she lies down, goes on stage, then again back on the prop and holds herself while the prop lifts up. It is the most advanced production and most extensive camera work I’ve seen in the contest. Equivalent to Maria Sur’s, but red and more mainstream pop, less dance pop. Jacqline was the runner-up of Idol in 2021 and now it’s her time to shine!

      Photo: Stina Stjernkvist/SVT

      • “Aldrig mer” – Clara Klingenström

Clara has a large prop behind and above her. I would be scared as if it would fall down on me. She has issues with her lows, as she would have in her two previous rehearsals. “Aldrig mer” is not my favourite of all her participations.

      Photo: Stina Stjernkvist/SVT

      • “Take My Breath Away” – Kim Cesarion

Despite the technical issues in this weeks show, now I can say that Kim got the sleek camera-shots he deserves. His staging, reminds me a bit of Robin Bengtsson‘s 2017 stagings, especially the moment when the dancers enter. His performance gives me The Weeknd vibes, much improved with his vocals. He is holding back a tiny bit for tomorrow I think. It doesn’t sound like his style of music but he does it good. He has Marvin Asante and Greg Curtis as his chorus on stage and one of the writers of the song William Segerdahl off stage. That means that he will need to reduce the number of people on stage, should he get selected this year. He dances too, here come the disco moves.

      Photo: Stina Stjernkvist/SVT

      • “För dig” – Klaudy

Klaudy has restored the wetlands and has put them right on stage. If you can recall, last year, someone wanted to restore the wetlands. A guy stormed onto the stage when Loreen was performing her song in the fourth heat in Malmö. A pleasant song, in Swedish. I would listen to it on the radio, or on a road trip.

      Photo: Stina Stjernkvist/SVT

      • “I Won’t Shake (La La Gunilla)” – Gunilla Persson

La La Gunilla is a superstar. She shines in the wild west, which is the theme of her staging. Her teeth shine too and we learned she had a dentist appointment when we had the press conference today. The whole package is a mess. It is uber-trash. But maybe people like this. She is a big thing in Sweden and I am unsure for what reason. Her vocals are very bad, but very much improved than her previous rehearsals. She at least now sounds in sync with the instrumental. The crowd cheers, not as hard as I would expect. If I had to decide, I would disqualify her.

      Photo: Stina Stjernkvist/SVT

      • “Give My Heart A Break” – Cazzi Opeia

Moa (Cazzi‘s name), has a very strong trademark sound. You listen to her music you know it’s her. As when I first listened to Loreen‘s Tattoo I immediately knew she had to do with the “Tattoo-oo-oooo” part. Not as distinctive as “I can’t get enough” but people love it. She begins singing inside a large keyhole prop, uses a dimple camera effect and kaleidoscope I kinda got dizzy. She wears a fluffy pink suit which is totally her and I love to see this. Her vocals are amazing. This is fun, crazy and has the amount of kitsch that we need and as much as we can all handle. The LED backdrop shows a heart in yellow and pink.

      Photo: Stina Stjernkvist/SVT

      The Intervals

Also, today in Växjö, the director, screenwriter and commentator Edward af Sillén is awarded the Hall of Fame award. From now on, he is also a member of this well-known group of artists, hits and creators who have all been of great importance to Melodifestivalen over the years.

Christine Meltzer goes up on stage and does an impersonation of Gunilla Persson, who is competing at this week’s Melodifestivalen show. She wears the same dress as Gunilla and then the real Gunilla joins her and compliment’s Christine as a fantastic body double.

Then a short video of Björn Gustafsson with the CEO of Sveriges Television Hanna Stjärne.

Clara has a large prop behind and above her. I would be scared as if it would fall down on me. She has issues with her lows, as she would have in her two previous rehearsals. “Aldrig mer” is not my favourite of all her participations. I think she would struggle to qualify, not to mention remain in the competition. Could be a shocking non-qualifier.

Sweden: Insight into the Melodifestivalen 2024 3rd heat songs! | SVT Pre-Listening Event

Melodifestivalen 2024 second show is on the forthcoming Saturday, February the 17th, which will take place at Vida Arena, in Växjö.

The Pre-listening Process

This year, we are invited to the pre-listening event that SVT holds every Tuesday at 10am CET, before each of the five heats of Melodifestivalen 2024, or as it is called “Förhandslyssningen“. Approximately 50 people, carefully selected by SVT are invited to listen the entire songs of each heat in the pre-listening events. So, we had the chance to listen to the entire running order of this week’s heat twice.

But what about the songs of this heat?

  • “Effortless” – Jacqline

“Effortless” has a very interesting sound. It is kind of a mix of the style of Little Mix and Dua Lipa. I could totally see it in the final show. Cazzi Opeia‘s contribution in the song is really obvious. Could be an “Effortless” DTF of this week?

Janne Danielsson/SVT

  • “Aldrig mer” – Clara Klingenström

Pop epic sound by Clara, not my favourite of her Mello-participations. If the Swedes decide to vote for a song in Swedish, they might vote for it. For me she will probably remain in the competition. Nice bridge but definitely not a DTF in my opinion.

Photo: Magnus Liam Karlsson

  • “Take My Breath Away” – Kim Cesarion

Nice intro! Pop-dance song that I totally love. “You tay-ay-ay-ay-ake my breath away” is a hook that gets stuck to your head. Could be a DTF or remain in the competition instead!

Photo: Magnus Liam Karlsson

  • “För dig” – Klaudy

Obviously a love song-ballad that gives you the feels even though it is entirely in Swedish. I don’t think it reminds me of any other song, I like it! Could remain in the competition or get disqualified.

Photo: Magnus Liam Karlsson

  • “I Won’t Shake (La La Gunilla)” – Gunilla Persson

There wouldn’t be Melodifestivalen without an entry like this. Basically Gunilla describes her life in not the best vocs of the bunch but it’s totally fun. Not sure if it will do well, the crowd will love it/her though. It is uber-trash, if I may use this expression and you will totally get it when you listen to it.

Photo: Magnus Liam Karlsson

  • “Give My Heart A Break” – Cazzi Opeia

Strings are totally Moa, her distinctive sound is there. It is a song that mixes happines and nostalgia. I can see a staging full of light and colours. Love the bridge and the hook. DTF maybe?

Photo: Magnus Liam Karlsson

Our thoughts

After a second listen, I think that Jacqline and Cazzi Opeia would be the direct finalists. Jacqline is a very well produced song and I am expecting it to be as well produced visually. Also Kim Cesarion and Clara Klingenström could remain in the competition. The staging is still the missing piece of the puzzle here. Regarding the songs in Swedish, Clara’s song has a clear edge compared to Klaudy’s song. However, I don’t think that Klaudy will either directly qualify or remain in the competition.

  • Aldrig mer – Clara Klingenström

Vet att tiden kommer bära mig

Hjärtat kan förlåta

Ser hur ljuset börjar närma sig

Låter det få måla

Ah

När jag blundar kan jag höra musiken

Ah

Det var den som gjorde mig stark

Aldrig mer

Tar mig själv i handen

Måste tro det kommer ordna sig

Klipper alla banden

Ah

När jag blundar kan jag höra musiken

Ah

Det var den som gjorde mig stark

Aldrig mer

  • Take My Breath Away – Kim Cesarion

They say My love

Don’t show

That I keep it inside

But lately I

Don’t know

How to act when you’re walking

In into to room

I make a move but when I do

My lips are frozen

But God I hope

I scream it out

Cause when it comes to you

I move the oceans

Yeah you should know that

You take

My breath away

You take

My breath away

It’s in the air

I give it all up

Show me the edge

You know that I’ll jump

No need no words to say

You take

My breath away

You take my breath away

I know

My heart

Will wait

To the day it’ll be heard so

Babe

Don’t hold

It back

If you got things to say cause

God I hope

I scream it out

Cause when it comes to you

I move the oceans

Yeah you should know that

You take

My breath away

You take

My breath away

It’s in the air

I give it all up

Show me the edge

You know that I’ll jump

No need no words to say

You take

My breath away

You take my breath away

So tell me

Cus I want it

Would you be my, my forever

This ain’t easy girl

When you hold me I love it

I wanna stay cus

You take my breath, away

You take

My breath away

You take

My breath away

It’s in the air

I give it all up

Show me the edge

You know that I’ll jump

No need no words to say

You take

My breath away

Tills mina lungor

Lägger av

Jag ser min framtid by your side

Och jag ska hålla dig så hårt

Att mina fingrar byter färg

Ingen annan ska få ta dig ifrån mig

Ingen annan

Mer än jag ska få

Fånga solens strålar

Dela glädjetårar

Med dig

Med dig

Ska skriva tusen låtar

Över tusen stråkar

För dig

Bara för dig

Lika våldsamt som en stormande orkan

Vill jag få älska dig

Med varje andetag

Vår tid är nu kommer aldrig tillbaks

Så låt mig älska dig

Tills mina lungor

Lägger av

Jag ska älska dig

Tills mina lungor

Lägger av

  • I Won’t Shake (La La Gunilla) – Gunilla Persson

Oh oh oh

Don’t need the lies

Oh oh oh

My spirit flies

Oh oh oh

Their words so thin

Oh oh

I’m gonna win

Judgments made

Without a clue

You don’t know me

And who are you

Talking shit

Behind closed doors

Spreading rumors

To even scores

La la la

La la Gunil-la

I won’t bend

No I won’t break

La la la

La la Gunil-la

Make a storm

But I won’t shake

They make a storm

But I won’t shake

Oh oh oh

In the darkest night

Oh oh oh

I’ll find my light

Oh oh oh

When things get tough

Oh oh

I’ll be strong enough

In this song

The message rings

Let’s rise above

And spread our wings

Honesty as our guiding light

Let’s leave the bullshit

And do what’s right

La la la

La la Gunil-la

I won’t bend

No I won’t break

La la la

La la Gunil-la

Make a storm

But I won’t shake

They make a storm

But I won’t shake

I won’t fall down

I’ll hold my stance

Everybody—let’s sing and dance

La la la

La la Gunil-la

I won’t bend

No I won’t break

La la la

La la Gunil-la

Make a storm

But I won’t shake

They make a storm

But I won’t

La la la

La la Gunil-la

I won’t bend

No I won’t break

La la la

La la Gunil-la

Make a storm

But I won’t shake

They make a storm

But I won’t shake

  • Give My Heart A Break – Cazzi Opeia

Wanna be weightless like a butterfly

Sometimes I wanna fly away

From all the expectations

Just need to have a little fun tonight

So tell me lies

The world has gone a little bit too cold

Don’t know what’s fake don’t know what’s real

What is our destination

I need to feel like I’m alive tonight

Alive tonight

So give my heart a break

It’s just too much to take

Not a single drop got no more tears to cry

So give my heart a break

Give my heart a bre—

Eh eh eh eh eh eh eh

Eh eh eh eh eh eeak

Not a single drop got no more tears to cry

So give my heart a break

Give my heart a break

I’ve been feeling lonely

I been feeling down

Know I’m not the only

Looking for a sign

What is our destination

I need to feel like I’m alive tonight

So give my heart a bre-

Eh eh eh eh eh eh eh

Eh eh eh eh eh eeak

Not a single drop got no more tears to cry

So give my heart a break

Give my heart a break

Give my heart a break

Give my heart a break

Not a single drop got no more tears to cry

So give my heart a break

Give my heart a break

It’s just too much to take

Not a single drop got no more tears to cry

So give my heart a break

Give my heart a bre—

Eh eh eh eh eh eh eh

Eh eh eh eh eh eeak

Not a single drop got no more tears to cry

So give my heart a break

Give my heart a break

Eh eh eh eh eh eh eh

Eh eh eh eh eh eeak

Not a single drop got no more tears to cry

So give my heart a break

Give my heart a break

Give my heart a break

Give my heart a break

Not a single drop got no more tears to cry

So give my heart a break

Give my heart a break

Sweden: Last Aftonbladet reveal, a day before the official SVT announcement!

EurovisionFun is currently in Stockholm, a day before the scheduled press conference when SVT will reveal the Melodifestivalen 2024 artists, their songs and the heat allocation, while Torbjörn Ek and Stina Dahlgren, reporters at Aftonbladet work hard at the newsroom of Aftonbladet and add up a few more names in the line-up of Melodifestivalen 2024, for one last time!

We remind you that last year, Aftonbladet revealed 24 out of the 28 acts of Melodifestivalen 2023, even before SVT announced the line-up officially. Let’s dive in to what they have revealed for us, in their just-published article:

Who is Lia Larsson?

Lia Larsson, 22, is the Tiktok star from Mora who has had EPA dunk success during the year and had her music streamed almost 30 million times, with songs such as “Banka banka” and “Fara ner på byn“. According to what Aftonbladet has learned, she also takes the opportunity to celebrate her Melodifestivalen participation by releasing a new single on the same day as the press conference is held.

Who is Klaudy?

Also ready for Melodifestivalen is William Schenberg, 24, from Tolered in Gothenburg. Under the artist name Klaudy, he participated earlier this year in SVT’s music initiative “Songland” and wrote a song together with the artist Cherrie.

Who is Annika Wickihalder?

Annika Wickihalder, 22, from Örnsköldsvik has also been given a place in next year’s Melodifestivalen. In 2021, she made it to the semi-finals of TV4‘s talent show “Idol“. As Aftonbladet previously revealed, Jacqline Moss, 23, who knocked out Annika in “Idol” will also compete in Mello. Now they both get another chance to compete for viewers’ votes.

Who is Melina Borglowe?

Melina Borglowe, 26, is the singer-songwriter from Växjö who has been signed by the small record company Ten, which has previously achieved success in Melodifestivalen with artists such as Benjamin Ingrosso, Felix Sandman and Bishara. Now, according to Aftonbladet‘s sources, it’s Melina‘s turn to take place in Sweden‘s biggest TV program.

Who is Natalie Carrion?

Finally, Aftonbladet can reveal that Natalie Carrion, 27, from Umeå, will also compete. Natalie, with Caribbean and Sami roots, has several times before been close to joining Mello and competed in 2022 in the sámi Melodifestivalen Sámi Grand Prix. Earlier this year, she was a Swedish commentator when SVT broadcast this year’s edition of the same competition.

We remind you that Melodifestivalen 2024 is scheduled to take place between February 3rd to March 9th, while SVT has received 2624 songs.

Sweden: Danny Saucedo is back at Melodifestivalen, according to Aftonbladet!

Torbjörn Ek and Stina Dahlgren, reporters at Aftonbladet did it again and revealed six more participating acts for Melodifestivalen 2024! We remind you that last year, Aftonbladet revealed 24 out of the 28 acts of Melodifestivalen 2023, even before SVT announced the line-up officially.

As we are approaching December 1, when the final line-up of Melodifestivalen 2024 will be revealed, the Aftonbladet is now nearing 30 acts! Here are the three new names that Aftonbladet brought to the table:

Danny Saucedo

Danny Saucedo, 37, hopes to return to the mainstream Swedish music scene by participating in Melodifestivalen in 2024, according to several sources that Aftonbladet has been in contact with, as he hasn’t made a major success with his latest releases.

The source said he knows he’s gambling by going to Melodifestivalen, he has to have a really strong song and make sure he gets a hit, therefore, the information that reached Aftonbladet in the late autumn has swayed back and forth. Several people who work closely with Melodifestivalen‘s editorial staff have speculated about Danny‘s participation, but now he is said to have finally accepted. Saucedo is said to have collaborated together with Michel Zitron, 42, who has previously been involved in Swedish House Mafia‘s “Don’t you worry child” and “Save the world” and worked with both Avicii and Alesso. The collaboration will also be a bit of a reunion as Zitron was also behind one of Saucedo‘s very first hits, “If Only You” which was the most played song on Swedish radio in 2008.

Elisa Lindström

Aftonbladet can also reveal that Elisa Lindström, 32, is ready for Melodifestivalen 2024. Lindström, who is currently playing one of the main roles in the schlager musical “De’ e’ det här vi kallar kärlek” based on Lasse Holm‘s music, has competed twice before, but without succeeding in advancing from the competitions. Now it could be third time’s the charm.

C-Joe

According to several sources with insight into the matter, the artist C-Joe, or Charles Koroma, 31, as his real name is, will also compete in Melodifestivalen. C-Joe, who is from Gävle with roots in Sierra Leone, has attracted attention locally several times over the years and has released music since 2017. Now will be the first time he will take place in the really big arena, in front of Melodifestivalen‘s multi-million audience, according to Aftonbladet‘s informant.

We remind you that Melodifestivalen 2024 is scheduled to take place between February 3rd to March 9th, while SVT has received 2624 songs.

As you have read in one of our past articles, the final list of Melodifestivalen participants will be published on the 1st of December, at a press conference hosted by SVT at their headquarters in Stockholm.
