Eurovision 2024: Which rehearsal has the most views on TikTok?

Two days ago, the first rehearsals for all 37 entries officially concluded, and today the second rehearsals are expected to be completed, with the Big 5 and the host country Sweden taking the stage at the Malmö Arena for the second time! This means that we are getting closer to the Eurovision week, with the Dress and Jury Rehearsals for the first semi-final starting on Monday.

However, as we know on TikTok, all the first rehearsals are uploaded. Apart from their performances, we’ll also get a sneak peek backstage before they take the stage for the first time in a video of about one minute.

One of the many features of TikTok is the ability to add songs to each user’s video creation. However, the TikTok algorithm is usually able to detect the song used in the video, assign it to the correct track, and then include it in the total number of videos where that sound has been used. Based on this capability, the most popular songs before rehearsals were from the Netherlands and Italy. Will they receive the same promotion as before?

The ranking with all the entries (in brackets will be the day of the rehearsal) based on the increasing number of views after one week from the start of the first rehearsals on TikTok is as follows:

Similarly, from the second semi-final, the following countries will qualify: Netherlands, Greece, Switzerland, Georgia, Israel, Belgium, Armenia, Albania, Latvia, and Austria.

TikTok has played a significant role in the success of Eurovision songs in recent years. For example, Duncan Laurence’s winning entry “Arcade” became a global hit a year after winning the competition when it was used in over a million videos on TikTok. One of the earliest TikTok successes from Eurovision was Getter Jaani’s “Rockefeller Street”, which went viral on the platform in 2018 and has since been used in over two million videos. Let’s not forget that Armenia’s entry in 2022 by Rosa Linn with “Snap” gained over a billion views on the platform. Finally, Norway’s entry last year gained significant worldwide publicity months before the competition week, where it secured fifth place.

Eurovision 2024: Cyprus’ Second Rehearsal!

The second rehearsals of Eurovision 2024 have started! The first artist to set foot on the Eurovision stage of Malmö Arena for today is Silia Kapsis from Cyprus, with her energetic bop Liar!

Who is Silia Kapsis?

Despite only being 17 years old, Silia Kapsis is already a succesful artist in Australia where she resides, as she has her own TV show in Nickelodeon Australia!

She sings and dances amazingly, and as she revealed to Eurovisionfun her big childhood dream was to perform on the Eurovision stage.

Silia is a singer of Cypriot and Greek descent, born in Sydney, Australia, on December 5, 2006 to the Cypriot singer Giorgos Kapsis and the Greek lawyer and former dancer Despina Saivanidis. She has been performing since the age of 4 and has had extensive training with elite artists at the top of their respective fields.

She has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Bobby McCloughan Creative Arts Award (130 Anniversary Award) at Claremont College, the St Vincent’s College Madame Christian Scholarship for Singing and most recently, she was the recipient of the Village Nation Performing Arts College Scholarship for All – Round Triple Threat Performer.

She composed her first single “Who Am I?” at the age of 12, but it was released later, only in 2022. Since then she has released three more singles – “No Boys Allowed”, in March 2023, “Disco Dancer”, in May 2023, and “Night Out”, in November 2023.

The Rehearsal

Silia is only 17 but she is killing this second rehearsal. No stage props, but lots of swirly green-blue and red graphics on the LED backdrop and floor. The LED graphics look like watery swirls and sine waves and they’re all choreographed to the beat of the music. Also should mention that the dancers pull their shirts off in the final chorus.

Once again, the performance is super energetic and set the party for the first semi final. Silia is more comfortable on the stage and she seems to enjoy even more.

The whole performance is a high-energy routine with a big dance break, in the bridge, before the final chorus. Fixed some TV footage requested by the Cypriot delegation from production and the team is very pleased with the final result!

First semi final starts with a BANG!

Eurovision 2024: Which rehearsal had the most views on the first day?

Yesterday, the big moment we’ve all been waiting for has arrived! Rehearsals began with the first seven countries of the first semi-final taking the stage.

In less than 24 hours (April 28, 2024, time 17:20 CET), since the first clip from the rehearsals was uploaded, we have a indicative sample of which rehearsal was favored by the audience (here it should be noted that the videos were uploaded one after the other with a one and a half hour interval and there was a significant delay in their publication).

The rehearsals that had the most views are:

  1. Poland: LUNAThe Tower – 711.3 thousand views
  2. Ukraine: alyona alyona & Jerry HeilTeressa & Maria – 608.1 thousand views
  3. Serbia: Teya DoraRamonda – 606.7 thousand views
  4. Croatia: Baby Lasagna Rim Tim Tagi Dim – 484.7 thousand views
  5. Ireland: Bambie ThugDoomsday Blue – 208.7 thousand views
  6. Cyprus: Silia KapsisLiar -195.8 thousand views
  7. Lithiania: Silvester BeltLuktelk – 193 thousand views

With this small sample, we can infer that:

  • Poland’s performance possibly appealed to fans, with the caveat that the stage presence was a surprise – either positively or negatively.
  • The rehearsals of Ukraine and Serbia also gained huge popularity, surpassing the following four positions in views, demonstrating their strength in the semifinal.
  • Croatia, as one of the major favorites of the competition, did not gather particularly high views, although fans and betting companies have placed it at the top for victory, resulting in the stage presence not making enough of an impression.
  • Similarly, Lithuania did not impress fans at all, as it maintained the same appearance as its national final.

Eurovision 2024: Cyprus’ First Rehearsal!

The moment all eurofans have been waiting for is finally here! The first rehearsals of Eurovision 2024 have started! The first artist to set foot on the Eurovision stage of Malmö Arena is Silia Kapsis from Cyprus, with her energetic bop Liar!

The Rehearsal

Silia is only 17, but she’s owning this stage like performing in a huge arena is a walk in the park. The gold lamé costume from the official video has been replaced with trousers and a crop top in sparkly white, with four male backing dancers in cargo pants and baggy white t-shirts. No stage props, but lots of swirly green and red graphics on the LED backdrop and floor. The LED graphics look like watery swirls and sine waves and they’re all choreographed to the beat of the music.

Fans of Silia’s dancing will be happy to hear that this performance has a high energy routine and a huge dance break before the bridge into the final chorus – just the kind of upbeat number we need to get the party started on May 7th. Also should mention that the dancers pull their shirts off in the final chorus.

Cyprus in the Eurovision Contest

This is Cyprus’s 40th participation in the contest, making it the country with the most participations without a win. The debut was in 1981 with Monika, achieving an impressive sixth place. Until the end of the 90s, Cyprus often managed to be in the top ten of the final rankings. However, from 2004, when the system of semifinals began until 2014, Cyprus managed to pass the semifinal hurdle only in three instances!

This drastically changed from 2015 onwards, with little Cyprus counting only qualifications. The highlight, of course, of all this good progress was the second place in 2018 with Eleni Foureira and Fuego.

Last year, Cyprus was represented by Andrew Lambrou with the song Break A Broken Heart, finishing in 12th place with 126 points.

Silia Kapsis and Liar continue their upward trend in the betting odds, as after the release of the teaser, her odds for victory have literally halved. The Cypriot delegation keeps a low profile and prepares in detail for Silia’s performance on the contest stage, believing that they will manage to surpass the previous performance of Andrew Lambrou and the twelfth place of Break A Broken Heart.

Good luck Cyprus! Good luck Silia!
