Lithuania: Roop will not travel to the Netherlands for postcard filming

The coronavirus pandemic puts a stop to the travel plans of Lithuanian representatives. Roop, one of Eurovision’s big favorites this year, canceled their pre-parties and postcard shootings!

That means they will not be performing at the London Eurovision Party on March 29 and at the Eurovision in Concert in Amsterdam on April 4. Thus, the two big parties will be held without the presence of The Roop. Of course, they hope that the situation will have been  improved by the end of April so that they can participate regularly in Rotterdam in May!

The Baltic Sea has taken various measures in the fight against coronavirus. Among other things, schools and universities and public services have been closed to prevent further spread of the virus.

They do not travel for postcard shooting

At the same time, the band decided not to travel to the Netherlands for postcard filming this weekend. This adds another headache to the organizers, who are called upon to manage a very unfavorable situation.

As The Roop singer Vaidotas Valiukevičius explains:

“We do not want to endanger our health or public health. We will follow the government’s recommendations to avoid traveling abroad. We believe that prevention is the key to getting everyone back to normal”

The band’s guitarist, Mantas Banišauskas, features:

“The world must be very united right now. Now is not a time of war, but a period of concentration. We look forward to meeting everyone in May in Rotterdam and want to spread the good dance virus of On Fire to the world”

For his part, the head of the Lithuanian delegation, Audrius Giržadas, sees this decision as the only reasonable choice in this emergency:

“It is regrettable that we have to delay the planned trip of our delegates. But such a decision is the only right step in this case. When dealing with the coronavirus pandemic, we must be responsible and avoid as much as possible the external dangers and visits”

Lithuania: 60 songs submitted|The dates and presenters of Eurovizijos Atranka 2020

Lithuania’s public broadcaster has decided to make several changes, notably shortening the duration of Eurovizijos Atranka 2020, the country’s national final for Eurovision. Every Saturday from 11 January until 15 February, we will be watching the efforts of artists who will attempt to bring Lithuania its first Eurovision contest victory.

36 songs will compete at Eurovizijos Atranka 2020

60 songs have been submitted to Lithuanian public television for Eurovision 2020. Of these, a panel has selected the 36 best which will participate in Eurovizijos Atranka 2020. The structure of the national selection has not been announced so far. How many qualifiers and semifinals will we have?

What we do know, however, is that Eurovizijos Atranka 2020 will consist of six shows, with the last of course final, on 15 February. So it is possible to have four qualifiers, one semifinal and one final.

But we also know the presenters. For the second consecutive year, Eurovizijos Atranka 2020 will be presented by Gabrielė Martirosian and Giedrius Masalskis. But Ieva Zasimauskaitė, who in 2018 represented Lithuania with When We Great Old, taking the twelfth position, will join them . Ieva will be the presenter of the Green Room.

With changes to Eurovizijos Atranka 2020

In addition to the shorter duration of Eurovizijos Atranka 2020, Lithuanian public television has made other changes to its national selection show. The jury will not be in another studio nor judge the songs, just comment in general. Also, the results of the televoting during the show will only be seen at the end.

Also, each artist could submit a single song. Lithuanian public television has pledged to raise funds to finance its participation in Rotterdam.

This year, in Tel Aviv, Lithuania, Jurijus represented the country with “Run With The Lions”, winning 11th place in the second semifinals, failing to qualify.
