Italy: Sanremo 2025 continues with huge success
Despite criticism from some Gen Z users on social media, Sanremo 2025, under the artistic direction of Carlo Conti, continues to be a massive success. The second night achieved a 64.5% audience share, reaching 11.7 million viewers. This is the highest second-night share since 1995 and the largest viewership since 2000!
The night’s top five rankings remained almost unchanged from the first evening, with Achille Lauro, Lucio Corsi, Giorgia, and Simone Cristicchi holding their spots, while Fedez joined the list. Brunori Sas, who was also in the first night’s top five, will perform again tonight. If he manages to re-enter the top five—which is highly likely since all the favorites performed last night—it will take us into completely uncharted territory. Based on betting odds and streaming numbers, Brunori Sas is expected to be joined by Olly, Tony Effe, and Irama, while the battle for the fifth spot remains wide open.
Damiano David made a spectacular return to Teatro Ariston, first performing a song by Lucio Dalla and then his own hit, Born with a Broken Heart. Co-host Bianca Balti was all smiles throughout the evening—spontaneous, funny, and truly enjoying every moment alongside Carlo Conti, the always entertaining Nino Frassica, and the eccentric Malgiglio.
The Newcomers’ Semi-Final took place at the beginning of the night. The organization could have been better, but at least they received some exposure. As for the Big Artists, they all performed better than on the first night, appearing more relaxed.
The hottest topic of the day is the revelation that Amadeus had rejected Simone Cristicchi’s song for the past five years, and now it has become the frontrunner to win the festival—moving half of Italy to tears and creating emotional moments at Teatro Ariston. Some argue that it is more of a poetry recital than a song, which might explain why Amadeus initially turned it down. The lyrics, the poem, are undoubtedly powerful and touching, but as a song? I’m still undecided.
