Serbia: Interview with Zorja Pajić from Pesma Za Evroviziju 2022!
After the announcement of her participation in this year’s Serbian national final, Pesma Za Evroviziju 2022, Zorja Pajić talks exclusively to EurovisionFun and Konstantinos Thermos.
Zorja Pajić is participating in the national final with the song “Zorja” and is one of the 36 nominated artists who will compete on 3, 4 and 5 March for the ticket to represent Serbia in Turin in May.
– Zorja, it is a great pleasure for us that you accepted our proposal and we thank you for that! First of all we would like to ask you, why Pesma Za Evroviziju? Why Eurovision? And why now? What made you take this decision and is it, perhaps, something you have wanted for a long time?
– Because it’s a stage where I think I would feel more free than ever! I’m drawn to that Eurovision moment. On stage I feel happy and I want to take it all on a higher level. I have always been able to imagine myself as a representative of Serbia. The audience gives me even more strength to make this wish come true, especially during the “Zvezde Granda“ contest where I participated, when they compared my performances with those of Eurovision, I just couldn’t wait for the next year.
– You became popular in Serbia and the countries of the former Yugoslavia by participating in Zvezde Granda, do you think that the experience you gained there will help you to have less stress during the competition?
– I think for me this experience was the right preparation for Eurovision. On stage I felt a passion that I hadn’t felt before, and now I want even more of it!
– We know that you have written “Zorja” yourself. What is the message of your song and what inspired you to write it?
– The song is called “Zorja”. This title explains that I have a personal relationship with the song, a deep emotional attitude towards it. The lyrics represent my journey towards finding myself, leaving a dark part of life that we all experience at some point. Victory over ourselves, that is the goal. The music describes my feelings and that feeling of release from the burdens that pull you down. Me and my husband, who wrote the music, know very well what that road looks like. The elements of ethnic music, the strings, definitely describe my life. I hope and believe that many people will be able to find themselves in the song, they will find the hope that’s always there waiting for us to use it and live our lives truly, without restrictions.

– Since your candidacy was officially announced, what was the best comment you have heard about yourself? And correspondingly, has there been anything you’ve heard that you think is wrong or unfair towards you?
– The best thing I’ve heard is that people get goosebumps and feel good, positive and inspired after hearing the song, that was our biggest wish! I am surprised that many people see me as the representative. So far I haven’t heard any negative criticism of the song.
– Do you have any thoughts about your stage presentation in the national final, and if so, could you share something with us?
– Yes. It will be like the song, my personal story. Preparations take a lot of time, we all work hard to make the result look and sound the way we imagine. I can reveal one small detail, and that is that I won’t be alone on stage. However, I prefer everything to be a surprise.
– Were you a fan of the contest from before? What’s your favorite entry?
– Of course! I always liked Eurovision as a concept and as something that is the culmination of a music competition of this type. I would imagine myself on that stage from a young age. I was dreaming of representing my country doing what I do best. That dream is now so close to coming true, I will give it my maximum! The place for my favourite song at Eurovision is shared by two songs, “Molitva“ and “Rise like a phoenix“.

– Have you listened to any of this year’s already selected songs or any of the songs from the other national finals, and if so, which ones did you like the most?
– Honestly, I’ve already heard some that have come out. They don’t sound like our song. I can’t wait to hear them all, like every year so far.
– Is there anything you would like to share with those who read this interview?
– Happiness lies in constantly surpassing yourself, in the constant need for inner growth and development of consciousness. Happiness is being free and finding love in yourself. Be healthy and stay strong in these difficult years for the whole world. Greetings and hugs from Serbia to all readers!
At this point we would like to thank Zorja Pajić once again for the interview and wish her all the best!
