Kosovo: EBU is positive on RTK’s Festivali i Këngës!
The Director of the first Festivali i Këngës in Kosovo, has stated that they have received a positive response from the EBU, regarding their music festival.
In an interview to RTSH, Albania’s public television, Adl Kastra, the director of RTK’s Festivali i Këngës, shared further information about the music festival, and whether or not, there will be a Kosovar representation at Eurovision. Kastra stated:
“As the director of the Festival, I communicated with the director of Eurovision and the EBU, they were extremely enthusiastic that Kosovo will hold the first festival.”
As for the the Eurovision Song Contest, he stated:
“We will not have a representative in Eurovision, I am convinced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs makes efforts for Kosovo to be part of it, but we have chosen a different strategy.We will produce a festival, which will be led by youth. It will be a Festival with distinct schemes like Eurovision, but also like Sanremo.”
RTK’s Festivali i Këngës will take place on October 26, 27 and 28, 2023.
In the past, Kosovo has participated in various Eurovision events. In 2011, RTK selected Tringa Hsya to participate in the Eurovision Young Dancers that year. Kosovo also had some kind of representation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 since Albina & Familija Kelmendi who represented Albania, are from there.
In order to participate in a future edition of Eurovision, Kosovo must first become a member of the International Television Union, as well as a member of the United Nations.
