Ukraine: ANKA accused of plagiarizing her Vidbir 2024 song!

A new accusation of plagiarism has arrived, this time  against one contestant in the Ukraine national final for Eurovision. ANKA joined the group of participants for the next Vidbir 2024 with her song “Палала”.  The singer won her ticket after getting 80,944 votes from the online public representing 26.78% of the total votes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0sJEaKJx94&ab_channel=ANKA However, a controversy started when singer Natalia Valevska who is well-known in Ukraine noticed some similarities between the Vidbir song and one of her own works.  Valevska took Instagram to accuse ANKA  of plagiarizing the chorus of her song.  According to Natalia Valevska, the chorus of ANKA’s ‘Palala’ share a striking similarity with her own song which has the same title but was released nearly two decades ago. Natalia Valevska, stressed that the similarities between the two songs go beyond having the same title but also in the lyrics. Namely Natalia Valevska‘s include in her chorus the phrase: “Palala, palala, palala in my sky a star” while ANKA’s chorus say “Palala, fell, palala, until the star fell from the sky”. Therefore Natalia Valevska asked her fans if this was a mere coincidence or an act of plagiarism.  According to the singer it would be the latter, since she alleges “the Ukrainian language offers a variety of words for creating lyrics” this could not be a mere coincidence. https://youtu.be/S0RvrfqLuog?si=pGSHOOwDtKbRlhSx Notwithstanding the similarities in the choice of words for both chorus, the music and the overall lyrics are different. ANKA has not responded to this accusation. The final of Vidbir 2024 will be held in February 3, 2o24. Stay tuned to Eurovisionfun for more news about Ukraine in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024!
