Estonia: Eesti Laul semi-final and red carpet party in the city of Tartu!
Eesti Laul, the Eurovision national selection procedure of Estonia, will go to Tartu on 20 January with a semi-final to celebrate the appointment of Tartu as the European Capital of Culture. Only one major semi-final will be held this year, with 15 artists entering the competition.
According to Marili Vihmann, Head of Information and Marketing at the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024, it is important that major events take place in Tartu and Southern Estonia, which are usually held in Tallinn:
“Eesti Laul is a good example of how Tartu 2024 brings together events from different parts of Estonia to celebrate together and celebrate the title of the European Capital of Culture.”
In addition, there will also be a glamorous red carpet party in Tartu, which has not been done before at Eesti Laul. Vihmann added on that:
“As the Capital of Culture, of course, we do not choose traditional red and we surprise the people with a pink carpet party in the hallmark colors of Tartu 2024.”
As far as she knows, the intermediate clips of Eesti Laul will also be Tartu-themed.
According to Karmel Killand, head of experience programmes at the Estonian Public Broadcasting, the national broadcaster has a proud feeling of being in the city.
“Where else, if not in Tartu – in the newly formed European Capital of Culture to start choosing Estonia’s representative for Eurovision. But of course, all year long in our channels, we also take all other interesting events to homes in Southern Estonia.”
