Norway: Heat 1 of MGP 2024 tonight!
The moment Norwegian Eurofans have been eagerly awaiting is finally here! Today marks the commencement of Melodi Grand Prix 2024, the method through which Norway will select its representative for Eurovision 2024. Over the next four Saturdays, starting tonight, Norway will choose the artist who will carry the nation’s flag in Malmö.
Format Recap
This year’s Melodi Grand Prix will follow the same format as the previous edition, with no duels or second-chance rounds. Three artists from each semi-final, decided solely by the Norwegian television audience, will advance to the final. The grand final will also feature an international jury contributing 40% to the overall result.
Melodi Grand Prix 2024 is set to take place at the Spectrum in Trondheim, hosted by Marion Ravn and Fredrik Solvang. The schedule is as follows:
- First Semi-final: January 13
- Second Semi-final: January 20
- Third Semi-final: January 27
- Grand Final: February 3
First Semi-final
The six artists who will compete in the first semi-final of MGP 2024 will perform in the following order:
- Mathilde SPZ ft. Chris Archer & Slam Dunk – “Woman Show”
- Fredrik Halland – “Stranded”
- Myra – “Heart on fire”
- GOTHMINISTER – “We Come Alive”
- Ingrid Jasmin – “Eya”
- Margaret Berger – “Oblivion”
Few words for the artists
1. Mathilde SPZ ft. Chris Archer & Slam Dunk: “Woman Show”
Mathilde SPZ is a powerhouse of an artist who has been writing and performing her own songs since the age of nine. With an impressive track record of singing at various festivals and stages, she captivates tens of thousands of fans annually with her energetic stage presence. In the context of MGP, she’s not going for a “one-man-show” but presenting her “Woman Show” – a party anthem for the introverts!
2. Fredrik Halland: “Stranded”
At 16, Fredrik Halland moved from Bergen to Los Angeles to pursue his dreams. After a year at the Musicians Institute and touring with American artist Colbie Caillat, he ventured into the studio as a songwriter, producer, and guitarist.
3. Myra: “Heart on Fire”
Myra, an award-winning songwriter and artist from Bergen, has carved her place in the Norwegian music scene with hits like “Hjemløs i egen by” and “Dovre faller” over the past few years.
4. Gothminister: “We Come Alive”
GOTHMINISTER, the brainchild and alter ego of Bjørn Alexander Brems, is a nighttime persona. By day, he’s a lawyer based in Oslo, but by night, GOTHMINISTER emerges, expressing his creativity through impressive costumes and music.
5. Ingrid Jasmin: “Eya”
Ingrid Jasmin, raised in Telemark – a stronghold of Norwegian folk music – with family ties to Latin America, brings a rich background to her musical journey. Studying flamenco alongside traditional Norwegian music, she set the tone for her debut album “Luna,” which won the Spellemann 2022 award in the Open class category.
6. Margaret Berger: “Oblivion”
A familiar name in the competition, Margaret Berger secured victory in MGP 2013 and clinched fourth place in Eurovision with the song “I Feed You My Love.”

The previous MGP winner and Norway’s representative at Eurovision 2023 was Alessandra with her song “Queen of Kings” and finished 5th in the Grand Final, continuing the country’s qualification streak for the sixth year.
