Portugal: Festival da Canção 2025 First Semi-Final’s ratings!
Last Saturday Portugal launched the search for the country’s next representative on the Eurovision stage. Festival da Canção 2025, as the national final is called, consists of two semi-finals and a final. Hosted by Jorge Gabriel and José Carlos Malato, in the First Semi-Final 10 artists competed for 6 places in the Grand Final on 8 March, when Portugal’s representative at Eurovision 2025 will be chosen.
An average of 400,000 viewers watched the first semi-final of Festival da Canção 2025, with 387,000 viewers watching the opening broadcast of Festival da Cançao 2025 and a maximum of 660,000 viewers during the first few minutes of the semi-final.
Interestingly, the audience share decreased throughout the evening, from 13.6% to an average of 8.7%. After a record 770,000 viewers for the 2018 event, viewership figures fell below 500,000 for the first time in 2023, and the decline continued this year, reaching a number below 400,000 for the first time.
The second semi-final will be held on March 1, with 10 artists trying to qualify for the Grand Final.
Portugal at Eurovision 2024 was represented by Iolanda and “Grito”, managing to finish in 10th place and hopes to continue its presence in the top ten in May in Basel.
