Denmark: Artists and Songs to be revealed on January 25!
Denmark‘s public broadcaster, DR, has announced that the revelation of the eight artists and their songs for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2024 will take place on Thursday, January 25, in a press conference at 11:30 CET.
Erik Struve Hansen, the project manager of the Danish competition, intriguingly mentioned that at least one participant has been known from their past involvement in the Eurovision contest.
Radical Changes in DMGP
The selection process for this year’s competition concluded on October 27, with around 500 songs submitted. DR has undergone significant changes aiming to secure a spot in the final after a series of disappointing results. The focus has shifted towards selecting songs with potential both in DMGP and Eurovision. The emphasis is on choosing artists capable of meeting the demands of a large-scale event like Eurovision.
Here are the changes:
- All candidates can present their songs with a live orchestra, although this choice is not mandatory.
- The winner will be chosen through two rounds of voting. In the first round, the qualifying songs for the next and final phase will be randomly announced.
- The judging panel will consist of ten Danish Eurovision experts and ten international Eurovision specialists from the five most recent winning countries.
- The international jury will reflect the spirit of Eurovision and the trends in the international music scene for the selected entry.
- On February 10, one week before the final, all eight participants will perform unplugged/acoustic versions of their songs live on television.
Dansk Melodi Grand Prix is set to take place on February 17 at DR Koncerthuset in Copenhagen, hosted by Stéphanie Surrugue and Sara Bro.
Although not a fan favorite, Reiley won the ticket to Liverpool in 2023. Despite his performance of “Breaking My Heart” in the second semi-final, he failed to qualify, gathering only 6 points, all from Iceland.
