Eurovision 2023: Austria’s First Rehearsal!

Next up on stage we will be seeing Teya & Salena on their first rehearsal as the representatives of Austria in this year’s competition with “Who the Hell is Edgar?”.

Who are Teya & Salena?

Teya may not be known as a singer yet, but she has been working successfully as a songwriter for some time now. She has participated in several singing camps in Unified Songs, as well as Eurovision.

TEYA’s newest single, “EX ME” is available on all platforms and is released through Unified Records.

24-year-old Salena comes from a big musical family. She lived in Berlin and Cologne due to her extensive recordings and television appearances on The Voice of Germany.

She moved to Vienna in 2019. In addition, she participated in several preliminary rounds for the national Eurovision selection.

In addition to collaborating with professional songwriters/producers from around the world, she participated in Austria’s show “Starmania” 2021. Her debut single is titled “Pretty Imperfection”.

The Rehearsal

Unfortunately this year, accredited journalists don’t get the chance to watch the first and second rehearsals, so we only get the information and content that the organizers officially release to the public.

It’s got a message, it’s got a thumping bassline, it’s got huge vocals, it’s got an insanely polished dance routine that everybody needs to learn immediately, and it’s got the line “Oh mio padre, there’s a ghost in my body” sung like it’s the Vienna Boys’ Choir. This is such a fun performance.

The Rehearsal

Unfortunately this year, accredited journalists don’t get the chance to watch the first and second rehearsals, so we only get the information and content that the organizers officially release to the public.

The group uses the LED wall as a sea with red and black graphics, and it’s clear they’re not leaving until they’ve left their heart and soul on that stage. The main singer has a huge stage presence and charisma which leads the whole performance is gritty and raw in the best possible way.

Eurovision 2023: Georgia’s First Rehearshal!

Next up on stage we will be seeing Iru on her first rehearsal as the representative of Georgia in this year’s competition with “Echo”.

Who is Iru?

Irina “Iru” Khechanovi is a twenty-three year old young artist from Georgia with Armenian descent. You may know her because she won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2011 as a member of the girl group Candy with the song “Candy Music”. In 2019, she tried to expand her career as a participant in the “Georgian Idol“. She also co-written Georgia’s song “I Believe” for Junior Eurovision last year. The entry finished in third place.

In 2023, she won the fifth season of “The Voice Georgia” and therefore she won the right to represent her country to Eurovision in Liverpool.

The Rehearsal

Unfortunately this year, accredited journalists don’t get the chance to watch the first and second rehearsals, so we only get the information and content that the organizers officially release to the public.

Iru wears a diaphanous white dress that looks like the dress from the official music videoThe whole song is performed on a raised platform in the centre of the stage, against a LED backdrop of swirling smoke and stormy weather, accompanied by a wind machine. All together it creates a hugely atmospheric performance, and Iru’s breathtaking vocals are already lifting the roof off the Liverpool arena.

Corinne Cumming / EBU

As well with the wind, there is also smoke in the third rehearsal for Georgia. The smoke blends with the foggy LED backdrop, this makes the whole performance very effective.

Sarah Louise Bennett / EBU

Eurovision 2023: Poland’s First Rehearsal!

Next up on the stage of Eurovision Song Contest 2023 is Poland. Blanka with her song Solois ready for her first rehearsal on the stage of M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool!

Who is Blanka?

Blanka Stajkow, known mononymously as Blanka, is a Polish singer and model. After writing her first song at the age of 14 while living in the Polish city of Szczecin, Blanka knew she wanted to be a popstar, and so headed to the USA with her mother, and put down roots stateside for the next 4 years. In 2021, she participated in Top Model, a Polish reality television show. While on the show, she officially released her first official single, “Better”.The following year, she signed a contract with Warner Music Poland, and released her second single, “Solo”, which now brought her to the Eurovision stage.

Blanka’s win in the Polish national selection was filled with controversy but Blanka, “Bejba” for her fans, is here in Liverpool stronger than ever, enhancing the criticism and making it a huge weapon of hers.

The Rehearsal

After three performances with no backing singers/dancers, Blanka is NOT Solo. She’s has four backing dancers, and this song is a huge summer MOOD from start to finish.

Corinne Cumming / EBU

Blanka sounds great and is totally owning that stage against a backdrop of tropical graphics – there’s even a dress reveal AND a mid-song dance break, which is ticking all our Eurovision boxes.

Sarah Louise Bennet / EBU

You can see Blanka’s outfit on the backstage photo below:

Chloe Hashemi / EBU

Update: The final chorus of Blanka’s performance is accompanied by a shower of fireworks! Hot enough, we guess!

The second rehearsal of Poland will take place on Friday 5/5, when we will have a better picture of what we will see from Blanka on the Eurovision stage, as we will have the official TV snippet.

Eurovision 2023: Greece’s First Rehearsal!

Next up on the stage of Eurovision Song Contest 2023 is Greece. Victor Vernicos with his songWhat They Sayis ready for his first rehearsal on the stage of M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool!

Who is Victor Vernicos?

Victor Vernicos is the youngest artist participating in Eurovision 2023 and in fact the youngest Greek participant ever! Victor might be young but he’s got big dreams!Victor has been involved in music since he was 4 years old. He has taken vocal and guitar lessons, while he has also attended music technology seminars. In 2021 he released his first song in which he wrote music, lyrics but also produced it himself. He is now representing Greece in Eurovision Song Contest 2023 with a song that he wrote himself when he was 14 years old.

The Rehearsal

If Victor is nervous about performing in such a huge arena at such a young age, it doesn’t show – he’s giving this both vocal power and some great on-stage energy, backed up by multiple giant Victors on the LED wall.

Corinne Cumming / EBU

His signature dance move is an infectious bounce that will have the arena jumping next Thursday – Ed Sheeran is one of his musical influences, and you can definitely feel the Sheeran vibe in What They Say. A confident and uplifting performance, and the Greek delegation should be very happy with that.

Costume wise, it’s the same shorts and jacket vibe as Romania’s Theodor yesterday, but less yellow.

Chloe Hashemi / EBU

Update: In the final runthrough for Greece, we’ve got the added bonus of some low smoke, because Victor is ON FIRE!

EBU

The second rehearsal of Greece will take place on Friday 5/5, when we will have a better picture of what we will see from Victor on the Eurovision stage, as we will have the official TV snippet.

Eurovision 2023: The odds after the first rehearsals of the countries of the first semifinal!

The first rehearsals for the countries of the first semifinal have been completed and, as it is expected, the odds have been refreshed for those ones. It is the second year in a row that the press center has been closed so there is no more information about the perfomances than the TikTok videos that Eurovision account have published. As a result, there are no big chances in the first days compared to last years.

1st Semi Final: The race of qualification

Most countries have been stabled in their position, except Switzerland who has overpassed Croatia and is now 7th in the betting odds to qualify for the Grand Final. Remo Forrer odds are between 1.33 and 1.4 compared to Let 3 who are between 1.36-1.55. It is also crusial to mention that Portugal has grown the gap with the Netherlands and, despite being 10th, has more chances to qualify compared to “Burning Daylight“. Also, Latvia, Malta, Ireland and Azerbaijan seem to loose ground and that it will be difficult for them to qualify to the Grand Final of Eurovision 2023.

1st Semi Final: The Winner

For the first time since 2007, televoting will decide 100% the result of the semi final, which means that the ten countries who will qualify and also the winner of the semi will be determined only by the viewers. Finland is ahead of this race and it is believed that “Cha cha cha” will win the televoting of the semifinal. The dynamic stage presentance, catchy chorus and also the fact that Kaarija is closing the show are making the odds to believe that he will overtook Loreen and “Tattoo“, the big favourite of this year’s competition. Honorouble mention to Israel and Noa Kirel, who has decreased the difference with Norway and is coming for the third place after the great reviews of her first rehearsal. Could “Unicorn” be the dark horse of the semifinal?

The Big Final

All “blue” for Finland and Israel, who are probably the gainers of the first rehearsals, in the betting odds. Kaarija has decreased his difference with Loreen and is now aiming for the first place. Also, Israel has overtook Austria and is now in the 7th place of the betting odds after her dance break. However, Loreen and “Tattoo” are still on the top of the scoreboard with a “safe” gap from Finland, until now. Sweden has managed to transfer the Melodifestivalen’s staging to Liverpool, despite the fears and difficulties, and did not dissapoint.
