Greece: These are detailed results of Audience jury!EXCLUSIVE

At Wednesday 28/12, the 70 members of the Audience Jury heard for the first time the 7 candidate songs of ERT for Eurovision 2023. In a well-organized process by all accounts, we also have a first fairly reliable picture of the voting results. Eurovisionfun having contacted at least 50 of the committee members, but also from social media posts, related forums and groups dealing with the Eurovision contest, we are able to reveal to you the detailed results of the voting and some more content also.

First on the voting is Melissa Mantzoukis with the song “Liar”

The first thing that can be easily concluded, is that Melissa Mantzoukis with her pop- dance song “Liar” won over the the audience. Based on our reportage, Victor Vernicos came second with his emotional and powerful ballad called “What they say” and Klavdia is third with “Holy Water”, a melodic powerful ballad.

Very close to the third, Leon of Athens managed to be in the middle of the ranking with his 80s radio-pop “Somewhere to go”.

The three remaing songs, didn’t conviced the audiance jury that much as it may seen. In the last place is “We are young”, the pop-rock ballad by Konstantina Iosifidou, and then we have a very tight result between the 5th and the 6th place. As it may seem, “I’m Proud” by Monika, a mid tempo song, and the pop-rock uptempo “Shout Out” are very close to each other that we can not make any final conclusions yet.

So, what now for Greece?

In the next days, the artists with their teams will have a private meeting with ERT jury so as to discuss their detailing proposal for Eurovision (VideoClip, Promotion, Staging etc). That’s the exact process that took place last year also. Next up, the jury will give their final vote, just like the Audiance jury, and the song and artist will be selected for Eurovision 2023! The announcement will probably happen in January.

We would like to wish all 7 (+1, as we have a duet) artists good luck! May the best song win and he, she or they bring us the best result in Liverpool!

Congratulations to each and every one the artists who continue to hope for the Greek representation, and to all those who submitted entries but weren’t chosen to be in the shortlist.

Norway: NRK adds Auto-Tune in Melodi Grand Prix 2023!

For the first time in Melodi Grand Prix’s history, NRK gives to its contestants, the chance to compete without the fear of not being perfect vocally, as they are going to allow the use of Auto-Tune, a virtual tool that corrects the wrong tunes and lets the singer be in-tune.

If for example, Stig van Eijk, Kate Gulbrandsen or Atle Pettersen lose their tune, the tool will make the required adjustment to take the note to the necessary tune.

This is what NRK’s Melodi GRand Prix general, Stig Karlsen said:

“MGP follows the development of the concert industry and music shows on TV, by allowing tuning of the lead vocal for MGP 2023”

Auto-Tune is a common production tool, especially in Hip-Hop and R&B music, from Cher’s “Believe” in 1998 to today’s Billie Eillish.

As of now, Auto-Tune is not allowed in the Eurovision Song Contest, but that does not change NRK’s decision to add it to the national final:

“But therefore it is absolutely essential that the artists we select for MGP deliver at a high level, even without tuning. In those cases where we do not know the artist’s performance level live, they are invited to an audition. We set high standards for the vocalists’ performance level, but will help to perfect the quality of the sound production through the use of tuning. This is done to give the audience a similarly solid sound experience as in the rest of the industry”

The director of Melodi Grand Prix in NRK, Stig Karlsen, adds that this is what corresponds to what has happened in other music productions in TV in recent years:

“MGP is one of the last remaining music productions on TV that will now use sound production tools of this type. Using Auto-Tune does not make anyone a skilled vocalist, Karlsen points out. A good vocalist must deliver on communication skills, power, rhythm and timing, empathy, attitude and timbre. A vocalist is also carried by the individual character of the voice. Auto-Tune is just one of several tools for correcting and optimizing the sound experience.”

Stig Karlsen believes that throug the many years of using Auto-Tune, the public has become more discerning with the listening experience and that they automatically get used to the vocals being corrected to their best form:

“MGP therefore sees itself as having to follow developments in order to deliver the product expected by the public in 2023.”

Will the winner of Melodi Grand Prix 2020, Ulrikke be in need of Auto-Tune, in next Saturday’s First semi-final?

Latvia: Saule disqualified from Supernova 2023!

Latvia’s pubic broadcaster, announced the 15 artists and the songs competing in their national final for Eurovision 2023, just yesterday.

LTV received 125 applications in total, 121 of which were submitted before the deadline. 21 applications didn’t meet the criteria to go on to the next stage of the selection (Missing info, artists were not from Latvia or the percentage of foreign composers was higher than that allowed). From the remaining 100 entries, LTV chose the 15 songs that were revealed yesterday.

However, the Latvian broadcaster looked into the songs and found out that one song breaks the rules of Supernova, as well as those of Eurovision itself, resulting in its disqualification from the selection process.

We are talking about Saule, as it was revealed that his song “Finally Happy”, with which he was chosen to compete in the semi-final, was released as early as December 19, 2021.

The rules of Supernova as well as those of Eurovision, demand the competing songs to not be released or performed publicly before the 1st of September 2022. The song was also removed from YouTube.

Because the channel is already getting ready to host the national final (which takes place in February 4), Saule will not be replaced by a new contestant and so, 14 artists will take part in Supernova’s semi-final.

In the semi-final and the final of the contest, the jury and the public vote are of equal importance. the winner will be decided by the total points awarded by the calls and sms votes, combined with the jury vote.

Supernova 2023 schedule is as follows:

  • Semi-Final– February 4
  • Final– February 11

The hosts for this year’s national final will be Ketija Šenberga και Lauris Reiniks.

The last winners of Supernova and Latvia’s representative in Eurovision 2022 were Citi Zēni with the song “Eat your Salad”  but they didn’t manage to qualify for the Grand Final, ending up in 14th place of the first semi-final:

France: The first rumors for Eurovision 2023!

The French national broadcaster, France Télévisions, so far hasn’t made an informative statement about the country’s participation in Eurovision 2023. What format will France use to select the entry it will send to Liverpool? Through a national final or by internal selection? This has not yet been revealed, however we can say a few names of artists that are heavily rumoured in the rumours circulating. Let’s go and see who they are.

La Zarra

The Canadian singer’s name was heavily mentioned last year as well. Through her return to social media, she has once again come back into the limelight as a possible representative of France at Eurovision 2023. Through a story, it was revealed that La Zarra was included in the casting of Eurovision France 2021 because the Apollo Theater stage in the national selection’s colours could be seen from behind. In her music she mixes French song and urban sounds. Maybe it’s time for her to visit Liverpool for Eurovision 2023?

Nour

She rose to fame in 2019 via The Voice Kids when she was just 17 years old, and three years later she won The Voice. About two months ago, she released her first single, “Premier Amour,” which has already reached two million views on YouTube. In the lyric video’s comments, Nour announced that there will be “little surprises in the coming weeks”. Do these include a possible participation in the French national selection? Especially since the previous selections have shown an extra preference for people who participated in TF1 shows. It is worth noting that TF1’s kids version is the main source of selecting the country’s representatives for Junior Eurovision.

Yelle

A cryptic message posted on Twitter started the rumor. The frontwoman of the band that takes her name and the featured singer of the great hits “Je veux te voir” and “À cause des garçons” which is a cover of the band of the same name, Yelle, said that there will be new music projects in late January, at the same time saying “I don’t know if I should say it here”. Since then, Yelle have denied the rumour started by eurofans and insisted that they do not want to participate in a music competition. However, is this really true or are they just following strategies like those of Ulrikke and Elsie Bay’s managers in an attempt to muddy the waters? In any case, the electro-dance-pop group has just announced the release of their new song for January 24th, before embarking on a mini-tour of the United States in late February/early March.

Anne Sila

Anne Sila is one of the most coveted names on the Eurofans’ list. She has two appearances on The Voice and a win on the All Stars version. After shocking viewers and her coach Florent Pagny, wouldn’t Anne Sila be able to conquer Liverpool and subsequently the hearts of viewers? Will she remain as an unfulfilled dream of the competition’s fans or is it time for her to be the French delegation’s strongest asset?

Tom Leeb

He is the last representative of France to be selected by internal selection for the much-maligned Eurovision 2020, which was ultimately cancelled. His song, “The Best in Me” which became “Mon Alliée”, however was not particularly well received. In 2021 he did not renew his Eurovision participation with the official explanation of “a busy schedule” and “a mutual agreement”. Tom Leeb announced that 2023 will be a musical year. We wonder, will he try to convince otherwise those who claim that “his chance is over” because of the bad reviews his entry received three years ago?

Silmane

A Silmane entry is a dream of many, as he is one of the stars in the country right now. Aside from this, Silmane has a win on The Voice and a successful duet with Vitaa under his belt. In an interview with Pure Charts, he has stated that he is interested in taking part in Eurovision since it is a competition he likes. However, he has said that he disagrees with the voting system believing that the selection of the winner is sometimes not meritocratic. Is this perception enough to put him off a possible representation of France at Eurovision 2023?

Star Academy

After ten years, the legendary TF1 show is back, causing a frenzy among viewers of all ages. In just six weeks of airing, it revealed 12 talents to millions of viewers. Among them, Anisha, the winner. She won a record label contract and sparked the interest of many artists… But she’s not the only one! Rumour has it that France Télévisions is considering selecting one or more of the Star Academy participants for Eurovision 2023. Will it act as RTVE once did with Operacion Triunfo? Creating such a bridge between TF1 and the public broadcaster, especially in such a recent programme, is not obvious on paper.

Yseult

The rumors about Yseult are not the loudest, but they continue to circulate on social media. She was part of the Eurovision France 2022 jury and her clash with Nicoletta sparked controversy. She was rumoured to have participated in the casting of the 2021 national selection without ultimately being selected, a report that has not been confirmed. Will Yseult agree to wear the colours of France for Eurovision 2023? She was recently named godmother of the next Francophonie summit in 2024, but the artist was forced to stop her tour due to health issues.

Who do you think will travel to Liverpool and Eurovision 2023 on behalf of France? Tell us what you think in the comments!
