Greece: New Head of Delegation for Eurovision 2024 appointed by ERT!

A successful and experienced team was assigned to work on the Eurovision 2024 project by ERT, Greece’s public broadcaster.

Following an one-year break, Mrs. Sofia Dranidou, Head of International Relations at ERT, is once again the Head of the Greek Delegation and Mrs. Dora Chiraki, Director of Corporate Communications at ERT, takes on the role of Head of the Eurovision 2024 project.

During the 2021 and 2022 competitions, they both occupied such positions. Greece’s two consecutive top-ten finishes in 2021 and 2022 were largely due to their diligence, professionalism, and in-depth understanding of the contest. The fact that both of them are returning this year is a very good indicator, meaning that ERT is taking the 2024 competition far more seriously and in a different manner than it did in 2023.

Mrs. Dora Chiraki announced the news through an Instagram picture with the caption “the journey begins”. In the image that has been shared, we can see Mrs. Chiraki and Mrs. Dranidou with staff members from MINOS EMI, the label that Marina Satti is working with.

Norway: Further information on MGP 2024!

Details regarding MGP 2024, the national final that will determine Norway’s entry in the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest—which will take place in May in Malmö, Sweden—were disclosed by Stig Karlsen, the head of the country’s delegation to the contest.

Initially held at the Marienlyst building in Oslo in 1960, Melodi Grand Prix is the most prominent music competition in Norway. The organizers decided that the three semi-finals of this year’s competition will take place at the same location in celebration of this occasion. The MGP 2024 semi-finals are scheduled to take place on January 13, 20 and 27 respectively.

There will be eighteen competitors in total for this year’s MGP, all of whom have already been chosen by a committee specifically appointed by NRK. Six entries will make up each semi-final, and three of those will advance to the final, which will be held at the Trondheim Spektrum on February 3.

The organizers guarantee a top-notch lineup featuring a variety of musical styles. On Friday, January 5, at a related event in Oslo, the artists who will participate in this year’s MGP are scheduled to be unveiled.

The pre-sales for the 2024 Melodi Grand Prix are set to start on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, and ticket sales will begin on Thursday, November 16, 2023.

This year, Norway was represented by Alessandra and the song “Queen of Kings”. With a total of 268 points, Alessandra came in fifth place overall and third in the televote. Will Norway be able to maintain its success and secure a third consecutive top 10 finish?

Sweden: Security planning for Eurovision 2024 in Malmö intensified!

As you’ve read on one of our articles last week, based on the increased terrorist threat level, the Swedish Police Authority had decided to ban bags at major events in Sweden.

Consequently, Malmö is currently evaluating the current situation caused by the ongoing Middle-East conflict and is discussing the ways of making the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest as safe as possible.

Speaking to Sveriges Radio, Nils Norling, spokesperson for the police of Malmö mentioned:

“If we look at Malmö during the last month, we have seen a certain increase in hate crime. Daily we see manifestations, mostly pro-Palestinian. So we cannot exclude that people will try and carry out various manifestations.”

Up until now, the police of Malmö hasn’t identified any direct threats to the contest, but it goes without saying that the intelligence work will intensify as we are approaching to the contest.

Sveriges Radio also interviewed Karin Karlsson, who is the lead for organising the events of Malmö municipality. Karin reflected on one manifestation against the Israeli participation that was carried out back in 2013 and added:

“I think that we need to act preventively and keep in mind that more could happen than in 2013, and then follow the things the police tells us to do.”

Apart from the Eurovision Song Contest, the city of Malmö will host several events in public or outdoor spaces. But does this pose a threat according to Karlsson?

We try to look at places where we are used to having good security and controls, so the places we want to use should feel safe.

More safety specifications regarding the Eurovision Song Contest will be released within the following months.

The 68th Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Malmö, Sweden in 7, 9 and 11th of May 2024, after the second win of Loreen in Liverpool, with her song Tattoo:

Czechia: The deadline for ESCZ 2024 submissions has been extended!

The Czech public broadcaster announced earlier today that there has been an extension to the deadline for submissions for ESCZ 2024, the national final that will determine the country’s entry in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest.

For several hours, the submission portal was unavailable due to technical issues. A day’s extension was thus granted by Czech public television as a way of making up for the time lost. As a result, the submission platform will close tomorrow, 7 November 2023 at 23:59 CET.

There are various differences between last year’s and this year’s selection process for the Czech Eurovision entry. The primary modification is the removal of the requirement for the lead performer to be a Czech citizen.

This year Czechia was represented by Vesna, with the song “My sister’s crown”, finishing in 10th place in the final.
