Italy: A preview into the songs of Sanremo 2025!

The excitement builds high as we are only three weeks apart from the 75th edition of the Sanremo Music Festival. Thirty-four artists will compete for the Golden Lion prize and the chance to represent Italy in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest.

As Amadeus left his spot as the Artistic Director of the Festival and will be succeeded by Carlo Conti, who returns after eight years, the interest is high on and we are all curious to see how will the change of the artistic direction reflect on the music direction the festival will follow.

The thirty-four competing songs will be first heard on the stage of Teatro Ariston and remain undisclosed. Only the press had the opportunity to listen to a preview on the songs and we have officially the first information on what to expect from Italy’s biggest music festival.

Italian representation in Eurovision 2025

If any of the 24 competitors (along with their respective record labels) want to compete in Eurovision 2025, they must complete a special form by the beginning of the festival’s final night on Saturday, February 15.

If the Sanremo 2025 winner has previously signed the interest form, he will be automatically considered Italy’s representative in the Eurovision 2025. Should he decide not to compete in Eurovision 2025, the festival’s organizing committee will select an artist from among those who have signed the interest form based on its own standards, which may or may not include the final score ranking.

Although originally scheduled from February 4 to February 8, eventually the festival was postponed, a week later. Therefore, it will take place from February 11 to February 15 in the small Ligurian town.

The winner of Sanremo’s Music Festival in 2024 was the debutant Angelina Mango with her song “La Noia“, who ultimately gained the right to represent Italy in Eurovision 2024, placing seventh in the Grand Final.

Greece: From a Tight Race to a Clear Favorite? | Greek National Final Betting Trends

With just ten days remaining until the highly anticipated Greek National Final for Eurovision 2025, speculation is heating up. Betting platforms are offering odds on who will secure the coveted spot to represent Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel. Let’s delve into the latest developments and analyze the frontrunners based on current betting trends.

Klavdia Takes the Lead

In the initial days following the release of the twelve competing entries, the race seemed tight between Klavdia and Evangelia. However, Klavdia has surged ahead, establishing herself as the clear favorite. Her entry, “Asteromata” (Stardusted), leads in YouTube views, overcoming Evangelia’s initial advantage, and her betting odds have plummeted dramatically.

Last weekend, Klavdia’s victory was priced at 2.20; now, the odds stand between 1.35 and 1.55 across major betting platforms such as Novibet and Stoiximan. This firmly places her as the front-runner for Greece’s representative in Eurovision 2025.

Evangelia Loses Momentum

Initially tipped as the favorite with her song “Vále”, Evangelia has seen her chances diminish over the past week. Her odds of winning now range between 3.50 and 3.75, offering a tempting prospect for her supporters. However, this marks a significant drop from her initial odds of 1.55–1.60, reflecting a shift in betting dynamics.

Dark Horses and Rising Contenders

While the focus remains on Klavdia and Evangelia, other candidates are vying for a breakthrough:

  • BARBZ, with her track “Sirens”, was considered a strong third contender. However, her odds have soared to 12.00 and 15.00, dimming her chances.
  • One surprise this week comes from the energetic group Dinamiss, whose song “Odyssey” has seen an upward trend. The sisters, previously seventh in rankings, are now closing in on third place, with betting odds dropping to 15.00.
  • Meanwhile, established artists like Konstantinos Christoforou and Kostas Karafotis (“Paradeisos”) and breakout talents like Xannova Xan (“Play It!”) hover in mid-tier positions, their odds reflecting modest expectations.

The National Final Format

The Greek National Final, set to take place on January 30 at the Christmas Theater in Athens, promises to be a spectacular event. Hosted by Eurovision icons Helena Paparizou and Sakis Rouvas, the evening will feature performances from the twelve finalists:

The winner will be decided through a combined voting system:

  • 25% from an international jury,
  • 25% from a domestic jury,
  • 50% from the televoting audience.

Can Klavdia Seal the Deal?

The final days leading up to the show will be crucial. Will Klavdia maintain her momentum and win the ticket to Basel, or could Evangelia or another dark horse stage a comeback?

Join the discussion in the comments and tell us who you think should represent Greece in Eurovision 2025. Let the countdown begin!

Eurovision 2025: Three female hosts for Basel!

The first media reports said that we will have three hosts for the 69th Eurovision Song Contest. Swiss newspaper Blick says three female presenters will host the show in Basel.

The only confirmed name among the three presenters is Michelle Hunziker, who will host the Eurovision Song Contest in May at the St. Jakobshalle arena.

Michelle Hunziker is a model, actress, and TV host who speaks fluent Italian and German. She began her TV career on Rai Uno in Italy and now frequently appears on television in Switzerland and Italy. Blick speculates that Hazel Brugger, Angélique Beldner, Dominique Devenport, and Sandra Studer have also been named as possible hosts, but the identities of the other two hosts have not been leaked to the media.

Another favorite to be a host of the contest was SRF commentator Sven Epiney. Epiney has been the German commentator for Eurovision in the country since 2008. Although the rumours say he will not be one of the hosts in Basel, he will still play a role in the live shows.

The 2025 Eurovision hosts will be announced at a press conference on January 20, 2025 with Joel Grolimund working as moderator for the event. The host reveal will take place in Basel’s Frank O. Gehry Auditorium at 15:00 CET. This means that we are only a few hours away from knowing who will host Switzerland’s first Eurovision since 1989.

Israel: The four finalists of HaKokhav HaBa 2025!

Israel is entering the final stage of selecting its representative for Eurovision 2025. After more than 30 episodes, HaKokhav HaBa has chosen the four artists who will compete in the Grand Final to represent the country in this year’s contest!

In last night’s episode, the five semi-finalists performed one by one, with the artist receiving the highest score earning the first ticket to the final.

After that, the score was reset, and the four remaining contestants faced the jury again. The jurors rated them Eurovision-style with 12, 10, 8, and 7 points. These scores were combined with public votes, which gave out 120 points. At the end of the episode, Dolev Mandelbaum was eliminated just before the final, having received the lowest score.

The Performances

Moran Aharoni and Red Band

Moran & Red opened the semi-final with “Etzlech Ba’Olam” by Meir Banai, in an English-translated version titled “Into Your World”. Red began the performance near the judges’ table—a nice change from previous appearances where he stayed seated. Moran joined in shortly after with incredible precision! Both came aiming for the Final, and this was evident whether they sang alone or in harmony, showcasing their continuously improving chemistry. They delivered the song flawlessly, at the peak of their abilities.

The duo managed to score an impressive 92%.

Daniel Wais

Daniel performed “What About Us” by Pink. He started surrounded by dancers posed as statues, against a backdrop of a moonlit sky and soft purple hues—perfectly complementing his gentle and pleasant voice. The song then gained momentum, becoming more upbeat than Daniel’s usual performances this season, which slightly showed in his higher-range vocals. However, he regained his footing after the chorus and returned to his characteristic low tones.

Daniel received three negative votes and a 56% score, falling short of Moran & Red.

Valerie Hamaty

Valerie performed “Chomot Cheimar” (Clay Walls) by Margol. Under red fabrics draped above her, Valerie delivered a powerful and iconic performance with ethnic elements that suited her perfectly. Her voice filled the room from the very first note, as she passionately conveyed the energy of the song. She even incorporated an Arabic verse she wrote herself, maintaining the song’s intensity. Coming off a lower-scoring previous episode with criticism, Valerie clearly knew how to make a comeback and stunned both the audience and judges.

Valerie achieved a strong 87%, though it wasn’t enough to surpass Moran & Red.

Dolev Mandelbaum

For his crucial semi-final performance, Dolev chose to perform “Creep” by Radiohead. With a piano, dancers, and an impressive stage setup, Dolev made it clear from the start that he was delivering a standout show. Sitting confidently at the piano, he exuded assurance. After the chorus, the song picked up energy, and Dolev once again demonstrated his vocal control and ability to hit high notes effortlessly. Despite his young age, he’s already establishing himself as a major pop talent with tremendous potential.

Dolev scored 58% and couldn’t surpass Moran & Red.

Yuval Raphael

Yuval closed the semi-final with “Warrior” by Demi Lovato. Against a backdrop of butterfly wings, Yuval moved in a circle while singing yet another Demi Lovato song, echoing her audition choice. Her voice was delicate yet powerful, effortlessly precise and commanding. With her strong and accurate vocals, Yuval positioned herself as one of the competition’s most formidable singers.

Yuval achieved a remarkable 98%, surpassing Moran & Red and earning the first ticket to the Final.

The Jury’s Votes

  • Shiri Maimon
    7 points – Daniel Wais
    8 points – Dolev Mandelbaum
10 points – Moran Aharoni and Red Band
    12 points – Valerie Hamaty
  • Keren Peles
    7 points – Dolev Mandelbaum
8 points – Moran Aharoni and Red Band
    10 points – Daniel Wais
    12 points – Valerie Hamaty
  • Ran Danker
7 points – Moran Aharoni and Red Band
    8 points – Dolev Mandelbaum
    10 points – Valerie Hamaty
    12 points – Daniel Wais
  • Eden Hason
    7 points – Daniel Wais
    8 points – Valerie Hamaty
    10 points – Dolev Mandelbaum
12 points – Moran Aharoni and Red Band
  • Assaf Amdursky
    7 points – Dolev Mandelbaum
8 points – Moran Aharoni and Red Band
    10 points – Daniel Wais
    12 points – Valerie Hamaty
  • Itay Levy
    7 points – Daniel Wais
    8 points – Dolev Mandelbaum
10 points – Moran Aharoni and Red Band
    12 points – Valerie Hamaty

After the judges’ votes, the scores for the four artists was as follows:

  1. Valerie Hamaty – 66 points
  2. Moran Aharoni and Red Band – 55 points
  3. Daniel Wais – 53 points
  4. Dolev Mandelbaum – 48 points

The public vote for the top three was not revealed to maintain suspense for the Final:

1st Place – 97 points
2nd Place – 88 points
3rd Place – 80 points
4th Place – 77 points (Dolev Mandelbaum)

Thus, the four finalists of HaKokhav HaBa are (in random order): Moran Aharoni and Red Band, Valerie Hamaty, Daniel Wais, and Yuval Raphael.

Thus, the episode concludes with the four finalists preparing for the Grand Final, which will take place on Wednesday!

Last year’s winner of HaKokhav Haba and the country’s representative at Eurovision 2024 was Eden Golan, with her song “Hurricane”, ending up in fifth place in the final ranking.
