Estonia: These are the first eight participants of Eesti Laul 2025!

Earlier today, the names and song titles of the first seven participants of Eesti Laul 2025, the national final of Estonia, for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 were announced, during ERR’s “Ringvaade” program!

ERR, Estonia’s public broadcaster, has selected the 15 best out of 175 songs submitted, that will compete in the national final, to claim the country’s representation in the upcoming Contest in Basel, Switzerland.

The first eight participants of Eesti Laul 2025:

In the list below, you will see the first eight artists and their songs for Eesti Laul 2025:

  • An-Marlen – “Külm”
  • Anna Sahlene – “Love Me Low”
  • ANT – “Tomorrow Never Comes”
  • ELYSA – “The Last to Know”
  • FELIN – “Solo Anthem”
  • Räpina Jack feat. Kaisa Ling – “Tule”
  • Stereo Terror – “Prty Till the End of the World”
  • Tuuli Rand – “Rem”

Evidently, the list also includes the duet of Räpina Jack and Kaisa Ling with the song  “Tule”, whose participation became known last week, as well as that of Tuuli Rand, that was announced earlier today.

Moreover, the list includes several returning artists from previous editions of Eesti Laul, such as Sahlene, the Estonian representative in 2002 as well as ELYSA, who has participated in the 2022 and 2023 editions of the Estonian selection

Eesti Laul 2025

The songs will be publicly available for the first time via the program “Start” on December 6. Tomorrow, on November 5, the remaining artists will be announced, while at the beginning of January, a sixteenth competitor will be revealed.

The Estonian selection will only consist of one night-show, in which sixteen songs are going to compete and will take place February 15, 2025, while the voting will take place in two stages.

  • During the first stage, all sixteen participants will perform their entries. Following the voting of the jury panel and the public’s vote in equal shares, a number of them will advance to the Superfinal.
  • During the Superfinal, the winner of Eesti Laul 2025 and therefore the Estonian representative in Eurovision 2025 will be decided exclusively by the public.

The previous winners of Eesti Laul and Estonia’s representatives at Eurovision 2024 were 5MIINUST x Puuluup with their song “(nendest) narkootikumidest ei tea me (küll) midagi”, who finished in 20th place in the grand final.

Spain: Benidorm Fest 2025 participants will not be announced on November 7

The latest updates for Benidorm Fest 2025, which will select Spain’s representative for Eurovision 2025, indicate a shift, as it is no longer certain when the contestants will be announced.

In previous days, the ESCplus Spain team had suggested that the participants of the Alicante-based festival would be announced on the upcoming Thursday, November 7, via a press conference. However, on Monday morning, internal sources from Spain’s public broadcaster RTVE informed ESCplus Spain that this announcement would not take place on the previously expected date.

With this new information, questions arise, as neither the date of the artist announcement nor the reasons for the postponement of the press conference have been clarified. It remains unclear whether the announcement will occur during Junior Eurovision week or at a later date.

Last year, Benidorm Fest participants were announced on November 11, with the candidate songs revealed about a month later, on December 14.

 

What we know about Benidorm Fest 2025 so far:

During the 143-day application period for Benidorm Fest, from May 20 to October 10, approximately 1,000 songs were submitted. RTVE has already begun the listening process to select the 16 best entries that will compete at the festival from January 28 to February 1.

Interest in Benidorm Fest appears to be very high, as this year saw the highest number of applications received over the festival’s four-year history, Last year, there were only 825 submissions.

María Eizaguirre, RTVE’s Director of Corporate Affairs and Participation, also provided some insights regarding the genres and artists. Most submissions were folk and urban songs, along with some rap entries, while pop remains the dominant genre once again. As for the artists, some of them are not Spanish, but reside permanently in Spain, showcasing the interest of international artists in the event. Additionally, female artists outnumbered male artists. Notably, for the first time, RTVE received a song created by artificial intelligence.

Montenegro: One withdrawal from Montesong 2024 and its replacement!

We are about three weeks away from the first national final for Eurovision 2025, Montesong 2024, which is going to take place on November 27, and through which Montenegro returns to the Eurovision Song Contest after a two-year hiatus.

While the final list of the artists and their songs with which they will claim the representation of the Balkan country in Basel, Switzerland, was published on October 10, two changes were announced today. The first change concerns the withdrawal of Boban Rajović with the song “Suze” who left for personal reasons according to his post on his personal Instagram account.

“My dear followers,
Mainly due to my private commitments and the lack of free time, I was forced to withdraw from the “Montesong” competition. I think it’s unnecessary to talk about my wish to represent Montenegro at Eurovision, but it just wasn’t meant to be this year, which doesn’t mean that my wish won’t come true in the future. Honestly I would like the best song to win. I would like more to see that the winner will be the one that the people vote. Thank you for your understanding.” 

Immediately after the above withdrawal, the national broadcaster of Montenegro RTCG announced that he will be replaced by Tamara Živković with the song “Poguban let”.

Austria: Seven artists still in the race to represent the country in Eurovision 2025!

As we’ve previously informed you, ORF, the Austrian public broadcaster, is currently in the middle of the internal selection, that will decide the country’s representative for Eurovision Song Contest 2025!

According to the latest news of the Austrian newspaper “Kleine Zeitung”, the public broadcaster wants to keep the names of the contestants secret, but a great amount of them have already indicated their participation.

Seven artists remain in the internal selection, based on “Kleine Zeitung”:

  • Philip Piller

Philip Piller participated in the TV shows “Starmania” in 2021 and “Die große Chance – Let’s sing and dance”. Born in Bavaria, he lives in Vienna and seeks to win the audience’s heart with a German-language song. This year he is in the final phase with two songs bidding to represent Austria at Eurovision 2025.

  • Dominic “Dodo“ Muhrer (Makemakes – Austria Eurovision 2015)

The Makemakes singer from Salzburg, who ended up in the last place in 2015 in Vienna, is now expressing his interest in a second attempt. This time, Dominic “Dodo” Muhrer wants to do it alone, singing in his dialect.

  • Johannes Pietsch

Johannes Pietsch is a soprano experienced in TV shows having participated in “Starmania 21”. He spent much of his childhood in Dubai and in an interview he said:

“My first encounter with culture and opera was performing Mozart’s Magic Flute with my grandparents at the Vienna State Opera at the age of eleven. It was an emotional moment when I sang there. My choice of style for Eurovision is obvious.”

  • Kayla Kristin

29-year-old Kayla Kristin from Tyrol (also known as Michaela Rimml), recently released her fourth single “Queen of Hearts”, while her previous singles entered the Airplay-Charts in the USA and Australia. Recently, Kayla, with her distinctive “soul” style, appeared in the Jackson 3’s program at the Circus Krone in Munich.

  • Nnoa

Christian Kerschner, known as Nnoa, is a graduate of the Mannheim Pop Academy and sings for the music project DelaDap. She took part in the Austrian national final in 2012. She describes her style as R’n’B-inspired pop and recently released ‘UFO’, which she describes as a “euphoria anthem”. Also, last year she was in the internal selection of the ORF to represent Austria.

In detail, ORF seems to be in the final phase of the internal selection, in which, they will select their representative among eight (8) submitted songs.

The decision on who will represent Austria at the ESC rests in the hands of ORF’s head of programming, Stefanie Groiss-Horowitz, and the decision of the Austrian jury and international fan clubs will also be taken into account.

Εstonia: This is the second confirmed act for Eesti Laul 2025!

As we have informed you, ERR, the public broadcaster of Estonia, will reveal the names of the 15 participants of Eesti Laul 2025, the national final for the Eurovision Song Contest, on November 4 and 5 during the show “Ringvaade”.

However, on Friday, following this announcement, the first entry for the national final was presented, namely, that of Räpina Jack and Kaisa Ling.

Just a few moments ago, during the program “R2 Hommik”, another entry was announced for the national final. In detail, Tuuli Rand will participate in Eesti Laul with the song “Rem”.

“Rem” is a power ballad with strong vocals. The remaining names will be announced as scheduled on November 4 and 5, while the songs will be revealed for the first time during the program “Start” on December 6. One remaining competing artist will be revealed on January!

This year, Eesti Laul will take place as a single show, which will take place on February 15, 2025.

The previous winners of Eesti Laul and representatives of Estonia at Eurovision 2024 were 5MIINUST x Puuluup with the song “(nendest) narkootikumidest ei tea me (küll) midagi”, which finished in 20th place in the grand final.

Denmark: Former Eurostar Returns to Dansk Melodi Grand Prix!

Erik Struve, the producer of the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix (DMGP), revealed the initial details of Denmark’s selection process for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, which will be held in Basel, Switzerland.

Speaking yesterday at the annual meeting of the Danish Eurovision fan club, Melodigrandprixfans.dk, Struve shared additional information about DMGP 2025. Mr. Struve, responsible for the national selection’s production, confirmed that eight entries will compete to represent Denmark in Basel, with the artists being announced three weeks prior to the event. Additionally, the voting system that will be used to determine the winner will remain the same as in 2024.

Notably, four of the eight entries have already been chosen by Denmark’s national broadcaster, DR. Among these selected acts, one will feature an artist who has previously participated in Eurovision. This marks the second consecutive year that DMGP will showcase a former Eurostar, following Basim’s participation in the 2024 selection with his song “Johnny,” which finished in second place.

The final of the Melodi Grand Prix 2025 will take place on March 1 at the Jyske Bank Boxen in Horsens. The winning song will represent Denmark in the beloved Eurovision Song Contest.

Israel: HaKokhav Haba will premiere on November 10!

HaKokhav Haba returns as the selection format for the Israeli artist who will represent the country in Eurovision 2025. “The Next Star“, as it translates in English, has been used to choose all Israeli contestants in the Eurovision Song Contest since 2015, with the exception of 2022 and 2023. It has delivered outstanding results, including a win with Netta in 2018.

While filming has started at Neve Ilan Studios since October 10, it is now announced that the new season will premiere on November 10, marking the official start of Israel’s journey to Eurovision 2025.

HaKokhav Haba 2024

Rotem Sela will return to host the show alongside Assi Azar, who also hosted the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest. Since the show’s first season in 2013, Azar has hosted HaKokhav Haba, while Rotem Sela took hosting duties in the second season and has done so ever since.

The judging panel will include:

  • Assaf Amdursky
  • Keren Peles
  • Shiri Maimon
  • Eden Hason
  • Ran Danker
  • Itay Levi

Their combined vast and varied experience guarantees a competitive edition that is both intriguing and difficult—certainly more so than the one from last season.

The winner of HaKokhav Haba and therefore Israel’s representative in Eurovision 2024 was Eden Golan. Eden Golan performed her song “Hurricane“, finishing fifth overall.

As we’ve previously informed you, ERR, Estonia’s public broadcaster, will reveal the names of the first 15 participants of Eesti Laul 2025, the national final for the Eurovision Song Contest, on November 4 and 5 through the program “Ringvaade”.

However, just a few minutes ago, the first contestant of the national final seems to have been announced through the same show. Specifically, it was revealed that Räpina Jack and Kaisa Ling with their song “Tule” are the first confirmed contestants for this year’s Eesti Laul!

Only the names of the two artists were revealed, while their song has not been released. The rest of the names will be announced as scheduled on November 4 and 5, and the songs will be publicly available for the first time via the program “Start” on December 6. At the beginning of January, a sixteenth competitor will be revealed.

This year, Eesti Laul will take place in a single show, scheduled for February 15, 2025.

Italy: The participants of Festival di Sanremo 2025 will be announced on December 2!

Festival di Sanremo, Italy’s most prestigious music festival, is only a few months away. During February, the entire Italian peninsula will be following all the events in the small Ligurian city to see who wins the Golden Lion and represents Italy in the 69th Eurovision Song Contest.

Given the festival’s importance to the Italian music scene, Carlo Conti, the newly appointed Director, is working tirelessly to finalize the lineup of twenty-four artists who will compete in Sanremo 2025.

Hence, it was revealed today that the participants in the 75th edition of the Festival di Sanremo will be revealed during RAI’s newscast on December 2nd.

Although the number of established artists competing in Sanremo is still unknown, Carlo Conti claims that they will appear in the Sanremo Giovanni final.

Sanremo 2025 – the schedule

First Evening: 24 artists perform their competing song (top five is revealed in a random order)

Second Evening: 12 artists perform their song (top five revealed in random order)

Third Evening: 12 artists perform their song (top five revealed in random order)

Fourth Evening: Covers’ Night, the artists will perform in a duet. The results of this semifinal will NOT be included in the main competition

Final: 24 artists will perform their competing song. The top five in the combined rankings of all semifinals advances in the Superfinal and gets to perform again. Juries and televote will vote again to decide the winner.

Italian representation in Eurovision 2025

If any of the 24 competitors (along with their respective record labels) want to compete in Eurovision 2025, they must complete a special form by the beginning of the festival’s final night on Saturday, February 15.

If the Sanremo 2025 winner has previously signed the interest form, he will be automatically considered Italy’s representative in the Eurovision 2025. Should he decide not to compete in Eurovision 2025, the festival’s organizing committee will select an artist from among those who have signed the interest form based on its own standards, which may or may not include the final score ranking.

Although originally scheduled from February 4 to February 8, eventually the festival was postponed, a week later. Therefore, it will take place from February 11 to February 15 in the small Ligurian town.

The winner of Sanremo’s Music Festival in 2024 was the debutant Angelina Mango with her song “La Noia“, who ultimately gained the right to represent Italy in Eurovision 2024, placing seventh in the Grand Final.

Estonia: The participants of Eesti Laul 2025 will be announced on November 4 and 5!

The contestants aiming to win Eesti Laul 2025 and represent Estonia in the 69th Eurovision Song Contest will be announced by ERR in just a few days.

The reveal of the fifteen Eesti Laul 2025 contestants will take place on November 4 and November 5 on “Ringvaade“. Tanja, Estonia’s 2014 representative, will be hosted on the live show on November 5, and Jüri Pootsmann, the 2016 representative, will be hosted on November 4.

In the meantime, public feedback will be taken into consideration when the sixteenth and final Eesti Laul 2025 contestant is revealed in early January.

How were the contestants selected?

Following the end of the submission period, ERR had received 175 entries for Eesti Laul 2025.

Then, a 34-member jury made up of singers, composers, producers, presenters, singing instructors, and music enthusiasts in general assessed the songs that were submitted to Eesti Laul 2025. The panel evaluated the songs in an anonymous manner without being aware of the songwriters’ or artists’ identities and consisted of several Eurovision personalities, such as Alika(Estonia 2023), Jüri Pootsmann(Estonia 2016), Kohver (Estonia 2024 – as a member of 5miinust).

What’s next

After the reveal of the first fifteen contestants, their song will be played for the first time on the “Start” program on December 6. At the beginning of January, the sixteenth competitor will be revealed.

The Estonian selection will only consist of one night-show, in which sixteen songs are going to compete and will take place on February 15, 2025.

This year’s Eesti Laul’s winners and therefore the Estonian representatives in Malmö were 5miinust and Puuluup, finishing in the twentieth place in the Grand Final.
