Eurovision 2022: Cyprus’ First Rehearsal!

The last country to take the stage today for the first rehearsal is Cyprus, represented by Andromache and her song Ela.

Keen pop fans will know that Andromache’s star has been in ascendancy across Europe for the past few years.

Born in Germany, and raised in Greece, music has always been a huge part of this participant’s upbringing; her entire family were passionate performers when it came to singing and dancing.

But Andromache first rose to widespread attention when she competed in The Voice of Greece, signing to Panik Records shortly after.

Her single, Na ‘Soun Psema, became the artist’s big breakthrough hit across radio and streaming platforms, cementing her status as a pop star to watch.

The Rehearsal

Cyprus definitely have one of the biggest props of the day – a huge shell-shaped structure that accommodates both dancers AND graphic projections. We love a multi-function prop.

Andromache appears like Aphrodite from the waves, and brings some elegance and energy to the final rehearsal of the day – it’s a really good mid-tempo pop song, and we’re having a little dance in the Green Room.

Eurovision 2022: Australia’s First Rehearsal!

Second to last on today’s rehearsal programme is Australia, with Sheldon Riley and his powerful ballad Not The Same.

Everything about Sheldon Riley:

Sheldon is critically acclaimed for both the strong visuals in his performances and his captivating music.

The Sydneysider considers performing, singing, writing and playing piano as intrinsic to who he is; regarding music as the purest way of expressing his emotions and allowing himself to heal.

In February 2022, Sheldon won Eurovision – Australia Decides with his song Not The Same… but this wasn’t his first time at the rodeo, having previously competed on The X Factor Australia, The Voice Australia and even America’s Got Talent.

The Rehearsal

Sheldon’s at the bottom of two flights of giant steps, and his outfit is the opposite of Achille Lauro’s – there’s ACRES of it, with a huge fur-trimmed white wedding train that drapes to the floor. He’s also wearing his silver sparkly face and hand jewellery, keeping up the 2022 Eurovision standard for incredible outfits.

This is a powerful vocal performance from Sheldon – those big notes are blowing the roof off the Pala Alpitour right now.

Hungary: MTVA will not broadcast Eurovision 2022!

The Hungarian public broadcaster MTVA will not broadcast this year’s Contest. Hungary has not participated in Eurovision since 2019 and did not choose to broadcast 2021 contest either. When the country did not participate in 2010 due to financial difficulties, both semi-finals and the Grand Final were broadcast on Duna TV.

Hungary withdrew from the Contest before 2020 competition. In November 2019, EBU revealed a list of participating countries on which Hungary was not in. MTVA has not made a statement as to why it chose to withdraw from the competition.

Hungary’s last participation was in 2019 with Joci Pápai and the song “Az én apám” however it did not manage to qualify to the big Final, getting 12th place with  97 points.

Eurovision 2022: San Marino’s First Rehearsal!

Heading towards the end of this group’s rehearsals, Achille Lauro from San Marino is taking up on stage next for the first rehearsal of his song “Stripper“

Everything about Achille Lauro:

Achille Lauro is an eclectic singer, songwriter and rapper from Verona, Italy. It’s not just music that Achille spends his time on, however. He’s acted, directed and is even an award-winning film producer, alongside hosting TV shows, putting on art exhibitions, authoring 3 books, and acting as the creative director for a record label.

He arrives at Eurovision having won the Una Voce per San Marino song contest, having previously competed in 3 editions of the prestigious Festival di Sanremo in his native Italy, in 2019, 2020 and 2022.

The Rehearsal

Malta’s sparkly piano has been taken off the stage, and is now replaced with a giant metal cage.

So, where to start? Achille Lauro in a sparkly mesh body stocking, luxury feather boa and cowboy hat and boots? The bonus fur pom-poms? The final chorus sung atop a red velvet bucking bronco?

This is glam rock, but make it COUTURE. The Eurovision stage has probably never seen anything like it, and that’s definitely a good thing.

As if this whole performance wasn’t hot enough already, San Marino have added ALL the smoke and flames. This is more pyro than we’ve seen from all the other acts combined, and it’s suddenly got VERY warm in the arena.

Eurovision 2022: Malta’s First Rehearsal!

Next up on stage we will be seeing Emma Muscat on her first rehearsal as the representative of Malta in this year’s competition with “I Am What I Am“

Everything about Emma Muscat:

Despite her young age, the 22-year-old Maltese pop singer, pianist and model has already carved out an impressive career for herself as a recording artist; capitalising on the success of her 2018 participation in the grand final of the popular Italian talent show, Amici di Maria De Filippi.

Muscat managed to win the Maltese National Final with another song,“Out Of Sight”, which received a somewhat lukewarm response from fans, and therefore Malta looked for a new song for Emma.

The Rehearsal

Malta is bringing up the stage our first grand piano of the day!

Emma’s staging features a huge plinth, a shiny grand piano, a sparkly disco ball dress and some really powerful vocals. She also uses the B Stage for the first time today, accompanied by four backing dancers.

This is a really great performance, and we can also confirm that Emma sings ‘I am what I am’ seventeen times in three minutes. You can’t really argue with this kind of commitment to self-actualisation.

Eurovision 2022: Georgia’s First Rehearsal!

The 5th act rehearsing today are Circus Mircus, representing Georgia, with their progressive alternative song “Lock Me In”

Everything about Circus Mircus:

The band was formed in Tbilisi at the end of 2020 by 3 circus academy dropouts and up to date they have released 11 songs. Their music is mostly experimental, mixing a lot of genres and sounds together through which they are willing to represent each member’s life experiences and inner world.

The Rehearsal

Apparently the whole performance is joyfully eccentric, with elements of Victorian circus, steampunk and neon graphic design woven through a really catchy pop song. On paper it shouldn’t really work, but it totally does.

All in all, it’s three very surreal minutes, but you know…it’s Circus Mircus. It was never going to be conventional, was it?

Finland: Amanda’s and Sam Ryder’s songs from Eurovision 2022 stand out for the Rasmus!

After Maro from Portugal, the legendary band The Rasmus also mentioned in the press conference followed their first rehearsal, that one of the songs that stands out from this year’s competition is Die Together!

The Greek and British participation was singled out by The Rasmus, as they revealed in the press conference shortly after the completion of their first rehearsal, which admittedly went very well.

They are the second artists after Maro from Portugal who give a vote of confidence in the Greek song and Amanda, who since yesterday continues the rally of rise in the betting companies, in the polls and in the fan predictions!

Eurovision 2022: Azerbaijan’s First Rehearsal!

The next artist that sets foot on the Eurovision 2022 stage for his first rehearsal is Nadir Rustamli, representing Azerbaijan with the emotional ballad “Fade To Black“.

Everything about Nadir Rustamli:

Nadir is 22 years old, born on July 8, 1999 in the Salyan area. Graduated from Azerbaijan University of Tourism Management. Although he has been working professionally with music for 4 years, he has been working in this field for 7 years. Apart from singing, he composes, plays the piano and guitar, but is also involved in sports.

She has participated in many domestic competitions, such as the National Student Spring 2019 song contest (first place) and the YouthVision 2019 international song contest (second place). In addition, he is the winner of this year’s “Voice of Azerbaijan”.

The Rehearsal

Nadir sings this powerful ballad from a set of steps that are set up like stadium bleachers, using interesting camera angles as he moves through a routine with a contemporary dancer. The steps then split in half so they can face each other.

It’s REALLY clever, and the moves and lighting really help to give this song extra impact. That’s going to look amazing on TV and in the arena next Thursday – well played, Azerbaijan.

Ukraine: Kateryna Pavlenko of Go_A will announce the 12 points in the Grand Final!

According to the announcement of the Ukrainian broadcaster UA: PBC, Kateryna Pavlenko, the lead singer of Go_A, who represented the country in 2020 and 2021 and finished 5th in last year’s competition, will announce the 12 points of the Ukrainian jury in the Grand Final of the 66th Eurovision Song Contest.

“I am very happy to be part of this year’s Eurovision. I remember our joy when the first 12 points were announced. “It’s nice to realize that I have the opportunity to make someone even happier,” Katerina commented.

Eurovision 2022: Serbia’s First Rehearsal!

After Michael Ben David from Israel, Konstrakta from Serbia is ready for her first rehearsal on the stage of the 66th Eurovision Song Contest, where she will perform the song “In Corpore Sano“.

Everything About Konstrakta :

Ana Đurić, aka Konstrakta, is 28 years old and was born in Belgrade. After participating in music groups Mistakemistake and Zemlja gruva! from 1997 until 2019, Konstrakta started her solo career.

On 8 February 2022, “In corpore sano” was announced as one of the 36 entries for the national selection festival broadcast on Radio Television of Serbia to choose Serbia’s representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. Entering the competition as an underdog, Konstrakta quickly acquired popularity following her performance in the first semi-final on 3 March, where she placed second and thus qualified for the final. In the final, which was held on 5 March, “In corpore sano” won both the jury vote and the public vote, receiving 31.34% of the public votes and therefore winning the competition.

The Rehearsal

As with previous performances from Konstrakta, the staging involves some quality furniture, intense hand-washing, and some nice towel choreography from her five backing singers.

This song and performance is entirely different from anything else in Eurovision this year and has a really interesting, hypnotic quality. Also how clean are Konstrakta’s hands going to be after all these rehearsals?
