Eurovision 2023: Poland’s Second Rehearsal!

Opening the second half of the Second Semi-Final is Blanka, representing Poland with her “KREJSA” song “Solo”.

Who is Blanka?

Blanka Stajkow, known mononymously as Blanka, is a Polish singer and model. After writing her first song at the age of 14 while living in the Polish city of Szczecin, Blanka knew she wanted to be a popstar, and so headed to the USA with her mother, and put down roots stateside for the next 4 years. In 2021, she participated in Top Model, a Polish reality television show. While on the show, she officially released her first official single, “Better”.The following year, she signed a contract with Warner Music Poland, and released her second single, “Solo”, which now brought her to the Eurovision stage.

Blanka’s win in the Polish national selection was filled with controversy but Blanka, “Bejba” for her fans, is here in Liverpool stronger than ever, enhancing the criticism and making it a huge weapon of hers.

The Rehearsal

Unfortunately this year, accredited journalists don’t get the chance to watch the first and second rehearsals, so we only get the information and content that the organizers officially release to the public.

The most uplifting pop banger of the day so far is up on the stage. Blanka could NEVER be “Solo”, she’s accompanied by 4 backing dancers during the whole performance. This staging makes us feel like we are in a tropical summer mood from the start to the finish.

Chloe Hashemi / EBU

She really owns the stage and believe me, she will draw all of our eyes on her, enough to go through to the final. Durring the middle of the song, from the LED backdrop of tropical graphics we are watching a transform to a dancebreak along with an outfit reveal and new LED graphics, where they make the appearance even more interesting. The final chorus of Blanka’s performance is accompanied by a shower of fireworks! Hot enough to make Europe dancing in Bejba moves!

Closing up the first half of the second Semi-Final is GreeceVictor Vernicos with his songWhat They Say” is ready for his second rehearsal on the stage of M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool!

Who is Victor Vernicos?

Victor Vernicos is the youngest artist participating in Eurovision 2023 and in fact the youngest Greek participant ever! Victor might be young but he’s got big dreams! Victor has been involved in music since he was 4 years old. He has taken vocal and guitar lessons, while he has also attended music technology seminars. In 2021 he released his first song in which he wrote music, lyrics but also produced it himself. He is now representing Greece in Eurovision Song Contest 2023 with a song that he wrote himself when he was 14 years old.

The rehearsal

Unfortunately this year, accredited journalists don’t get the chance to watch the first and second rehearsals, so we only get the information and content that the organizers officially release to the public.

The youngest participant of this year’s eurovision takes the stage… and he’s not nervous at all. He’s giving this both vocal power and some great on-stage energy, backed up by multiple giant Victors on the LED wall. He’s wearing shorts to remind us how is the summer in Greece and a jacket in chaki colours.

CHLOE HASHEMI / EBU

His signature dance move is an infectious bounce that will have the arena jumping next Thursday – Ed Sheeran is one of his musical influences, and you can definitely feel the Sheeran vibe in What They Say. A confident and uplifting performance, and the Greek delegation should be very happy with that. In the final runthrough for Greece, we’ve got the added bonus of some low smoke.

Diljá has huge stage presence and an infectious energy, and the biggest power she has is in that extraordinary voice. She’s dressed in silver, in the second rehearsal, she changed her earings.

Iceland Second Rehearsal 2

Sarah Louise Bennett / EBU

As we know from the previous rehearsal, she’s moving around a lot, covering the whole stage with high kicks and gymnastic moves – it’s a really compelling combination of vocal and physical strength, that feels like nothing else at Eurovision this year. We also haven’t seen a lot of drum ‘n’ bass at Eurovision over the years, and now we’d like more please.

Eurovision 2023: Cyprus’ Second Rehearsal!

The sixth day of rehearsals officialy began and the stage of M&S Liverpool Arena is ready to kick off the first rehearsal of the day!

Next up on the stage is Andrew Lambrou, representing Cyprus with his emotional ballad “Break A Broken Heart”.

Who is Andrew Lambrou?

Andrew Lambrou was born in Sydney, Australia and he is of Greek-Cypriot descent. Although he is just 24 years old his presence on TikTok is spectacular, since his profile on this social platform has gathered more than 700,000 followers.

He started to play music at the age of 5, when he was enrolled at the music school of AMS where he learned how to play the piano. One of his talents was his capabiity of listening to a song and then playing it on his own by heart. Soon he realized that he had to fulfill his musical destiny after having already won the first place in a competition singing the song “Doh A Deer”, still at the age of five. His own parents encouraged his inclination towards music throughout his life, while he attended musical classes at “LaVoce” Music School, where Marc Villagra was his vocal coach.

Andrew Lambrou currently lives in Sydney, Australia where he composes and performs his own songs, while he has also taken part in “The X Factor of Australia”, “Australia’s Got Talent” and “The Voice of Australia”.

The rehearsal

Unfortunately this year, accredited journalists don’t get the chance to watch the first and second rehearsals, so we only get the information and content that the organizers officially release to the public.

As we already know, the performance is inspired by the elements of the earth, from the abyss to the catharic waters of the waterfall, we end up to lava and fire for a rebirth. There are changes in the second rehearsal, he’s now barefoot.

Cyprus Second Rehearsal 1

Sarah Louise Bennett / EBU

Break A Broken Heart is a powerful, heartfelt ballad with a marching drumbeat that’s vibrating through the Liverpool Arena floor – Andrew’s vocal is sublime, and there’s something electrifying about the way this song builds from the first big note to an even bigger finish making it extraordinary. The LED backdrop transitions from waterfall to flames, is insane. Cyprus has floor smoke and four banks of flames ready to be everyone gasped.

Last year’s changes in the way rehearsals are covered continue this year, as the Press Center opens on Monday after the first and second rehearsals, which means that the information we will have for the first week of the competition will come exclusively from the material to be provided by the EBU to the accredited journalists.

Eurovision 2023: Watch the exclusive rehearsal footage from today’s second rehearsals!

The preparations on Liverpool for the 67th Eurovision Song Contest are on fire and it’s now a wrap for the 5th day of the technical rehearsals. After their first technical rehearsals, the representatives of the first 5 countries participating in the 2nd Semifinal on May 11, took the stage of the M&S Bank Arena for their second rehearsals.

The second rehearsals gave the opportunity to the delegations to fix any mistakes spotted on the first rehearsals and help the artists feel more safe and familiar with the Eurovision big stage.

Because accredited journalists are not allowed to watch both the first and second rehearsals this year, we have very little information about what this year’s artists have prepared for the Eurovision stage. EBU has just uploaded through the official Eurovision channel in YouTube a recap of today’s rehearsals. More specifically, we will have the chance to watch exclusive TV footage of today’s rehearsals.

The countries that had their second rehearsals today were the following:

  1. Denmark
  2. Armenia
  3. Romania
  4. Estonia
  5. Belgium

Mae’s outfit consists of total black, she combined trousers with a corset jacket. The performance starts on a raised plinth in front of the LED wall with a feature of huge pop art-style graphics. There is also a face split of Mae’s happening in two horizontally, giving the impression that she is inside her own head. It gives the vibe like it’s already taped and looks great live.

Corinne Cumming / EBU

She’s accompanied by four dancers dressed in red and black, who join her at the front of the stage for a choreography in the second half of the song, the choreography is described like a dance routine. This performance builds up to a big old pop banger finish. What a better choice to close the Grand Final of Eurovision 2023!
