Sweden: The Mamas statement after Eurovision 2020 cancellation

The Mamas, who will represent Sweden at this year’s Eurovision contest, are among the first bidders to make a formal statement announcing the official cancellation of the competition.

In a post they stated the following:

“Of course, we respect the decision made, and during the current emergency we are all in, the problem is greater than the fact that we cannot go to Rotterdam. Of course, we’re incredibly sad on a personal level that we and our song can’t compete in the biggest music competition in the world after our win at Melodifestivalen. We were looking forward to representing Sweden with “Move”. We hope that people will continue to listen to our song with the message that we can move the mountains together, which is even more important today when everyone has to take responsibility and do the right thing. If we help each other in this difficult time, we will be led to something good in the end. Our thoughts also go to the ESC organizer who worked hard in an uphill race. Take care of your self!”

We remind you that all this comes after the official announcement of the cancellation of this year’s event by the EBU, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Netherlands: With Jeangu Macrooy at Eurovision 2021

It was not long before the official cancellation of Eurovision 2020 was announced and the Dutch public television had already announced that Jeangu Macrooy would represent the country in 2021 as well.

Het Eurovisie Songfestival, dat dit jaar plaats zou vinden in Rotterdam, is in verband met het Coronavirus afgelast. Natuurlijk is AVROTROS hierover erg teleurgesteld, helemaal omdat het Songfestival in 2020 juist voor Nederland een extra bijzonder jaar had moeten zijn. Uiteraard heeft AVROTROS het volste begrip voor de beslissing van de EBU, de gemeente Rotterdam en het projectteam bestaande uit NPO/NOS/AVROTROS. Dit is geen makkelijk besluit, maar helaas onvermijdelijk omdat de gezondheid te allen tijde voorop staat. Ook voor Jeangu Macrooy is dit een spannende periode geweest, maar hij begrijpt het besluit volledig. AVROTROS blijft achter onze Nederlandse inzending staan en zet graag in 2021 met nieuwe energie en veel passie de samenwerking met Jeangu voort. Samen staan we sterk! “The Eurovision Song Contest, to be held in Rotterdam this year, has been canceled because of the coronavirus. Of course, AVROTROS is very disappointed about this, especially since the Eurovision 2020 song contest would be a special event for the Netherlands. Of course, AVROTROS fully understands the decision of the EBU, the municipality of Rotterdam and the project team which also consists of NPO / NOS / AVROTROS representatives. This is not an easy decision, but unfortunately unavoidable because health is a top issue for everyone.
Eurovision 2020 would also be an exciting time for Jeangu Macrooy, but he also fully understands the decision. AVROTROS is pleased to continue working with Jeangu and Eurovision 2021 with renewed vigor and passion. Together we are strong!”

The above statement means that the Netherlands has already announced Jeangu Macrooy as its representative at Eurovision 2021, before the Reference Group decides what to do with the artists and the songs selected for this year’s competition. However, from Avrotros’s announcement, we conclude that only the artist is confident and not the song. Apparently, they are waiting for EBU announcements on this issue.

Breaking News: Eurovision 2020 is officially cancelled

Despite the information we had that EBU was considering moving to the contest in August, shortly before an official announcement, Eurovision 2020 was canceled, with no further information on what will happen to this year’s entries.

The announcement shows that Rotterdam will once again be the host city of the competition in 2021. Unfortunately it is the first time in the 65-year history of the Eurovision competition that the annual Europe Music Festival will not take place.

On the official website of the contest there are some questions and answers that came up after the cancellation.

-Of course, it is also planned to have a refund for those who purchased the ticket.
-Rotterdam seems to remain as a host city in 2021 as well.
-The topic of the songs and the artists and whether these will be the participations of countries and time will be discussed in the Reference Group.
-The EBU explains that it was finally unable to transfer it at a later date, as they are unsure whether it will be safe for all delegations, journalists and fans.
-They rejected the idea of ​​a non-public contest, as this would remove the main component of the event, the live public participation in the arena.
-The dates of the competition in 2021 will be announced in due time.

Georgia: With Tornike Kipiani at Eurovision 2021

In a frank and straightforward announcement on Facebook, Georgia confirmed that Tornike Kipiani will represent the country at Eurovision 2021. The announcement of the Georgian broadcaster followed those of other countries that will compete next year with the same artist on the competition stage.

Tornike Kipiani was the winner of Georgian Idol and Georgia’s representative at Eurovision 2020.

San Marino: Disagrees with cancellation of Eurovision 2020

In a press release sent a few minutes ago by the San Marino Public Television (SMRTV), the channel  expresses opposition to the EBU’s decision to cancel the 65th Eurovision Song Contest.

The press release states:

“Quite rightly – obviously – the EBU’s decision to cancel Eurovision 2020 in mid-May, but as a broadcaster, and I’m sure we are not alone, it would be more logical not to cancel the event altogether, but as it did for the European Games , a postponement for autumn 2020 or directly for 2021 … would allow all public broadcasters to open the 2020-2021 season with Eurovision 2020, giving an important and strong message about the international language of music”.

Estonia: Uku Suviste will normally participate in Eesti Laul 2021

Estonia will normally host Eesti Laul next year and will not send Uku Suviste to the ESC, as other countries have already announced.

Croatia, Spain, Latvia, the Netherlands, Ukraine and Greece have already announced that they will be represented by the artists themselves next year. Estonia is following in Sweden’s footsteps and will host Eesti Laul next year as well. Indeed, public television in the country invites Uku Suviste to take part in the year.

As it finally happened, in the Ringvaade live show, the 37-year-old artist responded positively to the Eesti Laul 2021. He will thus claim his scripts and presence at the next Eurovision through the Baltic participation selection format. The remaining participants are due to be announced in due time, as we are still in March.

It seems that public television stations do not follow a single line on the artist who will represent them at Eurovision 2021, as some countries wish and have already announced that they will be represented by the same artist, while others, mainly those organizing national finals, will perform normally their festival and simply this year’s representatives will lose their right to compete in Eurovision.

Ukraine: With Go_A in Eurovision 2021

The official public broadcaster of Ukraine, UA: PBC, has announced on its website that it will be represented at Eurovision 2021 by Go_A! Go_A were announced as Vidbir 2020 winners and were due to compete in the Netherlands with “Solovey”.

Thus, the Public Channel of Ukraine will not make any additional national choice regarding the election of its representatives. UA President: PBC said in a statement:

“If nothing changes in the life of Go_A in the coming months and they are ready to compete on the Eurovision stage, we will help! This applies to their preparation, song selection and other organizational issues.

In this decision all parties involved converge. So our intention is that Go_A will represent Ukraine at Eurovision 2021!”

Greece: ERT’s Announcement for Cancellation of Eurovision 2020 | With Stefania in Eurovision 2021

The question that concerns all fans of the contest, and not only, is whether ERT will choose Stefania as its representative for Eurovision 2021 as well. Not long ago, Greek public broadcaster issued a press release announcing the cancellation of this year’s competition. In this announcement,ERT  thanks Stefania and her team for their excellent cooperation and it seems that they are giving an appointment in Rotterdam next year!

“A decision by the European Public Broadcasting Union (EBU) has canceled the Eurovision  Song Contest in Rotterdam because of the coronavirus pandemic. In its letter to EBU members, contest  executive Jon Ola Sand said – inter alia -: “Our dear partners and friends, We are at a disadvantage in announcing the cancellation of this year’s Eurovision in Rotterdam. In the last few weeks we have worked out a number of alternative projects aimed at holding this year’s competition, but the uncertainty created by the spread of COVID-19 in Europe in conjunction with the security measures imposed by both the Dutch authorities and governments of the participating countries led the EBU to the difficult decision not to proceed with Eurovision 2020 as planned. The EBU, NPO, NOS, AVROTROS and the Rotterdam authorities are continuing discussions on the competition in 2021. We understand your frustration at this time, and as we elaborate on the developments resulting from this unprecedented decision, we ask you to your patience until we are younger in the days and weeks ahead. ” ERT has already assessed as very positive the way in which the Greek and European audiences have accepted this year’s selection of the talented Stephania Luberakakis, as well as the cooperation she has had with her. ERT intends to continue this cooperation over time, as the EBU’s final decisions become known”.

SUPERG! RL by Dimitris Kontopoulos, ARCADE and Sharon Vaughn may not have been represented to us at Eurovision 2020, but it was loved by all Greeks bringing it high from the very first moment of its release on all charts. EBU: Reference Group meeting for Coronavirus and Eurovision 2020 tomorrow | Shots canceled for all postcards

Tomorrow, we probably will have some interesting news regarding the  Eurovision 2020 and the impact that the spread of coronavirus has. As the Czech Public Broadcaster’s official website for the contest announced tomorrow (17\3), the Reference Group is meeting to assess the situation and the new data.

While the pandemic is spreading elsewhere in Europe faster and elsewhere and with daily cancellations or postponements of major sporting and cultural events, the fate of the Eurovision song contest remains still unknown.

According to the latest EBU official announcement, any decisions will be made in April. Based on our own information, the EBU examines various scenarios, of course considering their legal dimension as well. Postponing the competition, however easy it may be in words, is a complicated process.

We do not think that tomorrow there will be a final decision on what is to come with this year’s competition. Both the Dutch organizers and the EBU are in close contact with the relevant health services, while considering alternative scenarios that may need to be implemented.

What is certain is that the postcard shootings that would take place in different parts of the Netherlands at this time will be postponed for the time being. If all goes well, what will become of the Ukrainian model of 2017, when the postcard shooting, was the first week of rehearsals.

 

Croatia: Listen to the final version of “Divlji old”!

Through his personal YouTube account, Croatia’s representative at Eurovision 2020, Damir Kedžo, has released the final version of the song to compete in the competition, “Divlji old”.

Damir Kedžo won the right to represent his country in Rotterdam literally on the thread, having won the televising by just 260 votes! It should be recalled that the committee voted first for Mia Negovetic and second for Damir Kedžo.
