Eurovision 2020: Jon Ola Sand: “There is no discussion of bringing Kazakhstan back”

In the city of Glivice, Poland, the Eurovision Song Contest Executive Supervisor  Jon Ola Sand has been out for a few days for the Junior Eurovision 2019.

In a press conference he gave to reporters, questions about regular Eurovision were of course too. One of the questions raised was Kazakhstan’s participation in Junior Eurovision and whether it opens the door to participation in adult Eurovision as well.

“There is no talk of bringing Kazakhstan to Eurovision”

Once again, Jon Ola Sand makes it clear that we will not see Kazakhstan in the contest – at least in 2020 – and that they are in ongoing dialogue between the EBU and the Kazakhstani public brοadcaster on membership and other events.

“First of all, we are very happy that Kazakhstan’s delegation is here and they did well last year. They have a great turnout this year and they generally prepare thoroughly and send out their best members basically, so we are very happy.

For the time being, there is no talk of bringing them to the Eurovision competition but we are in constant dialogue with the player at various levels – not only about our events but also about membership, and the services we offer.

They have visited the EBU offices several times, not just me but other departments and people of the EBU, and we want to continue the good dialogue with the Kazakh carrier because they add value, for example, to the competition – by Junior Eurovision – and we are very happy for this”

After all, in September, Jon Ola Sand himself had again stressed that there were no plans to invite the country to the 2020 competition in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Of course, the fact that the upcoming Eurovision competition will also be the last for Jon Ola Sand as Executive Supervisor may have a different approach to the issue from his successor.

Spain: Positive to host Junior Eurovision 2020 if Melani wins

The Spanish delegation to Glivice is positive to host the next Junior Eurovision Contest if Melani wins.

The head of delegation told Bluper that all the Spanish delegates at this year’s competition want very much for their country to host Junior Eurovision 2020, since of course they win with Melani.

“This is something that the RTVE administration should decide. I can’t speak for them. As a mission we would love it very much and it is something that I believe will be appreciated. But I don’t want to think about it now. For the moment I prefer to have fun”

The statement comes as there are dozens of reports on the internet about the passion that Spanish fans are taking part in the online poll that opened yesterday afternoon, of course supporting their own country, but also Portugal and Wales, two countries that they consider not to will claim the victory.

The last time Spain hosted one of the Eurovision competitions was in the distant 1969, and since then they did not want to host the contest even in 2004 when they won the Junior Eurovision.

Greece: What is going on with Eurovision 2020?

For another year, ERT,the greek public broadcaster confirms how cumbersome the Greek bureaucracy  is. Although, as you read in our previous articles, three meetings have already taken place in the broadcaster’s HQ, white smoke does not yet exist.

ERT is still trapped in procedures and committees. Neither the art committee that proposes to ERT the way, but perhaps the artist who will represent us in Rotterdam, have been announced, nor have discussions with any artist been significantly advanced.

Stefania mentioned a few days ago on a greek private tv channel,SKAI,is indeed a possibility, but it is possible that they will end up in another person as ERT is heading in other directions as well … Dimitris Papadimitriou will also play an important role in the selection of the artist this year, and as we have told you in the past, the new management of Greek Public Television has turned away from professionals who have had a lot of success in their assets, but in this case as well come to some agreement with them.

What we hope for is that ERT has realized exactly what a competition like Eurovision requires and any experiments will finally stop. Fortunately or unfortunately, Eurovision has been fully commercialized in recent years and the level of the competition has risen sharply. It may  take examples from RIK, which for another year with a specific plan, sends an artist who fits into the style of contest, claiming the best result for 2020.

The experiments of recent years have not yielded any positive results and if Greece want to succeed after seven years on the left side of the table, it must “fight” with the same weapons, leaving the tip ideas and stereotypes. In addition, the new administration should, at its option, signal the change of page that it announces that it brought to ERT!

So waiting, with fewer meetings and more actions!

Hungary: No Comment on Eurovision Withdrawal by the government

As we told you in our previous article, Hungary will not participate in Eurovision 2020. The A Dal regulations, used since 2012 as Hungary’s national final for Eurovision, did not mention the Eurovision contest, and part of the the regulations were in breach of EBU regulations, which meant that the A Dal 2020 would have nothing to do with the country’s participation in Eurovision. Finally, it was not on the official list of the EBU, with the countries to take part in Rotterdam.

This news has displeased many fans with the demand to learn from MTV, the reasons for its withdrawal from the Music Competition, but Hungary has yet to give an answer.

According to a Hungarian newspaper, Magyar Hang, LMP Green Party MP Péter Ungár has asked the government the reasons of Hungary’s non-participation in this year’s Eurovision.

Foreign Minister Bence Rétvári declined to answer the question, stating:

“No member of the government has the power to review or control the decisions of the public broadcaster – and therefore the production decision referred to in the question”

Magyar Hang notes that the public broadcaster is working hard to achieve Hungarian participation in Eurovision every year. It even assumes that Hungary’s exclusion at Eurovision 2019 is based on that decision.

This is the fourth time Hungary has withdrawn from the Eurovision contest. The first time was in 1999, for six years. It returned in 2005, abstained in 2006 in Athens and returned the following year. Its last absence was in 2010, when for financial reasons the country preferred to stay away.

The best place in the history of the competition is the 4th, when in 1994, it was represented by Friderika Bayer and the song “Kinek mondjam el vétkeimet?”.

He has recorded his own unique path, both at the Eurovision Festival, as well as in music and theater, being one of the most successful choreographers and directors of recent years. Nikos Marianos, who is known for versatile and creative talent, having choreographed from demanding  musical such as “Evita”, “Hair” and “Grease”, up to high standard’s Mad Show, accepts another suggestion – a challenge that opens the European music scene to him.

Two countries are claiming the acclaimed Greek, seeking exclusive co-operation for the 65th Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Rotterdam in May 2020. Competition officials in Switzerland but also in San Marino have already contacted Nikos in order to take over  the choreographic performance of the songs that will be selected to represent these two countries in this year’s contest.

San Marino managed last year under his direction the best result  in Tel Aviv, while Nikos already has successful entries in both Greece and Malta. Remember, the director and choreographer has appeared on the Eurovision stage as a dancer in 2005 with Elena Paparizou on Eurovision’s 50-year show, but also in 2009 with Sakis Rouvas and “This is our night”.

Nikos Marianos has not yet given a definitive answer to the officials of the two countries. The NMDF Convention, which holds its fourth year in March 2020 and hosts the 19 most important choreographers around the world is in his high priority this period. However, it is certain that for another year Eurovision will be of particular interest to the Greeks.

Junior Eurovision 2019: How to vote for your favorite songs

The countdown for the grand final of Junior Eurovision 2019 has begun. There are only some hours left to find out which country will be the winner of this year’s contest. After defining the order of songs appearances and analyzing this year’s Junior Eurovision favorites, it’s time to take a look at how to vote.

The vote for Junior Eurovision 2019 is open to the public. It is only enough to have an internet connection and a device to connect to the contest’s site. You can vote for your favorite songs on the contest page, but only after watching a recap of all 19 songs. This video will come from the second rehearsal on Thursday 21 and Friday 22 November.

Once the recap is complete, viewers will be able to vote for their favorite 3.4 or 5 entries. No geographical restrictions apply, so fans can vote for their own country if they so wish. In an effort to avoid duplication of voting, it is necessary to create an account at junioreurovision.tv before voting.

When do we vote?
The vote for Junior Eurovision 2019 is divided into two phases:

-Phase 1: voting begins at 8 pm today (CET time). This round of voting will remain open throughout Saturday, closing at 15:59 on Sunday, November 24 – shortly before the show begins.
Phase 2 :takes place during the live broadcast. The window will open after the appearance of the last country, Serbia. The second phase will last about 15 minutes.

The way to calculate the final result

Online voting will determine 100% of the public vote as voting by phone or SMS is not possible. Like in Eurovision, the public decides by 50% on the results, with the remaining 50% coming from the votes of each country’s juries. The JESC 2019 Jury will include 3 music industry professionals and 2 children aged 10 to 15 years.

Both the jury and the audience have 1102 points to share in the final songs. The allocation of points, in particular, to the public will be based on the percentage of points that each country has gained in electronic voting. If, for example, a country receives 20% of the votes then it will also receive the corresponding 20% of the available points (20% of 1102 points = 220 points).

The grand final of Junior Eurovision 2019 will take place on Sunday, November 24th at 4pm CET time and you can watch it through the official YouTube channel of the contest by clicking HERE.
