It is now officially confirmed that Australia will compete in the 69th Eurovision Song Contest. The Eurovision Song Contest is one of the shows that SBS has announced it is going to broadcast in 2025. Therefore, SBS received the special invitation and will be returning to the Eurovision stage for its tenth participation, as Australia’s contract with the EBU has expired and its participation has to be annually renewed.

Specifically, SBS’s press release mentions:

Eurovision Song Contest 2025
TX: May 2025 on SBS and SBS On Demand
The Eurovision Song Contest returns to SBS in 2025! The world’s largest live music event is a serious cultural force and a whole lot of fun, celebrating music and artistry from across the globe. This year’s event reached over 163 million viewers across the globe live from Malmö, Sweden, after Loreen’s historic 2023 win in Liverpool, UK. In 2024, Switzerland’s Nemo took out the title with their song The Code. Australia has participated in the contest since 2015, creating a legacy of sending truly unique artists to share their talents on the biggest platform in the world. Who will represent Australia in Basel, Switzerland 2025?

Regarding the country’s Eurovision 2025 selection procedure, no information is provided. The return of the Australia Decides format, however, appears unlikely given the confirmation date, and the nation is likely to opt for an internal selection instead.

Electric Fields were SBS’s pick for Eurovision 2024 with their song “One Milkali (One Blood)“. Unfortunately, Australia did not make it to the Grand Final for the second time in its history in the contest and missed the spot for seven points.

Kosovar government hopes for a Eurovision 2025 debut

Kosovo has celebrated the second edition of Festivali i Këngës në RTK and the nation does not give their hope to debut in the Eurovision Song Contest.

The second edition of the festival took place in Pristina last weekend.  The winner of Festivali i Këngës në RTK 2024 was Endrit Krasniqi Flasë me tetanen.

According to public broadcaster RTK, the Kosovo government foresees their festival as a platform to show Europe their interest in participating in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Regarding the chances of future participation RTK’s Minister of Culture, Hajrulla Çeku said:

Technically, and organizationally, we meet all the conditions. There remain only procedural aspects towards the issue of membership and representation in ‘Eurovision’. Politically, we have to do a lot but remember that last year we were monitored by the EBU because they evaluate organizational issues. We have passed this exam, now we continue towards Eurovision with our heads held high

Kosovo’s broadcaster RTK sent an application to participate in Eurovision this year to the EBU. However, the EBU rejected their application on the basis that they needed to become a full EBU member first.

Netherlands: Strong interest in Eurovision 2025 brings surprises – What Cornald Maas and Anouk’s manager revealed

Excitement for Eurovision 2025 is surging in the Netherlands, as the selection committee reports a heightened number of entries from artists and songwriters. Cornald Maas, a member of the special committee tasked with choosing the artist and song to represent the country, recently discussed the process on the public television show Eva, revealing that many submissions have come from artists who had previously expressed reluctance or intended not to participate.

Increased Interest from Artists and Songwriters

Maas noted that this year has seen an unexpected surge of interest, as artists who initially stated they wouldn’t participate ultimately submitted their proposals. This has boosted the committee’s optimism, as the range and quality of submissions have expanded. Although he withheld specific names, Maas emphasized that the committee must make careful decisions given the diversity and quality of the songs submitted.

Anouk Ready with Songs for Eurovision – Waiting for the Call

On the same program, the manager of renowned artist Anouk, who successfully represented the Netherlands in 2013 with Birds, expressed her readiness to return to Eurovision. He noted that Anouk has already prepared a collection of songs she deems suitable for the competition and is awaiting a potential official invitation from Avrotros, the organization responsible for the Netherlands’ Eurovision participation.

Time Pressure and the Aim for a Strong Entry

As Anouk’s manager pointed out, time is of the essence, as Eurovision preparations require significant effort and organization. Anouk’s interest in returning has fueled speculation that the Netherlands will attempt a high-caliber entry aimed at a top position. The Eurovision committee, including Cornald Maas and its other members, faces the challenge of selecting an act that not only reflects the country’s current music scene but also has strong potential in the competition.

The selection process is expected to conclude soon, with everyone eagerly awaiting the announcement of the final choice for Eurovision 2025. Will it be Anouk or a new artist who will carry the Netherlands’ flag in the upcoming event? The coming weeks will be crucial, with rumors and anticipation building, as the Netherlands prepares for a memorable return to the Eurovision stage.

In the meantime, we can remember Anouk’s last Eurovision entry, Birds, which ended a 14-year drought by placing the Netherlands in the top 10.

France: With Kimberose or Lénie in Eurovision 2025?

No much time has passed from the buzz caused by the rumors that Louane will be lifting the tricolore at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland, and already two new names have emerged.

According to French journalist Clément Garin‘s post on his X account, two new names seem to be being discussed in the corridors of the national broadcaster France Télévisions to represent France in Eurovision 2025. These two names are Kimberose and Lénie.

Kimberose is a 33-year-old pop & soul artist and has been on the rise for several years. After starting in 2015 by forming a self-titled group alongside Anthony Hadjadj, she has been active solo for several years. She has 4 studio albums to her credit and her latest, Roses, has just been released. She is best known for her duet with Grand Corps Malade “Nos plus belle années”.

Young Lénie emerged from Star Academy last year and meets all the criteria for Eurovision. As for the representation in Junior Eurovision talents are sought through The Voice Kids, so for Eurovision talents such as Amir and Slimane are sought. Lénie’s asset is that she can present a show in which she can sing and dance at the same time.

Kosovo: The song that would represent the country in Eurovision 2025, if allowed!

The second edition of Festivali i Këngës në RTK was broadcasted live from Pristina, Kosovo, last night. The Kosovar festival follows in the footsteps of the homonymous Albanian festival, one of the most significant music stages in the nation with over six decades of history. Should Kosovo be permitted to compete in the Eurovision stage, the Festivali i Këngës në RTK will serve as the national selection process.

Following two semi-finals, nine artists competed in the final of FiK në RTK:

  • Arnite Kastrati – “Blla blla”
  • Besmir Shishko – “Unë Ajo”
  • Rei Bezhani – “Zonjë tradhti”
  • Endrit Krasniqi – “Flas me gjethen”
  • Ardit Stafaj – “Faji”
  • Greta Azizi – “Veres”
  • Dea Strica – “N’Shqipni”
  • Agim Poshka – “Ndarja erdhi”
  • Blendi Kaso – “Një të vetme ka në jetë”.

Following the voting of a five member jury, Endrit Krasniqi was crowned as the winner of Festivali i Këngës në RTK 2024 with his song “Flas me gjethen” and would represent Kosovo in Eurovision 2025, in case its participation was allowed by the EBU.

Eurovision 2025 – Kosovo

Kosovo’s intention to be a part of the Eurovision family is no secret. RTK has tried for years to secure the nation’s spots to EBU’s shows, since the nation’s independence declaration.

Moreover, RTK decided to make an official application in order to participate in the next edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2025, which will be held in Switzerland. Via a formal letter, RTK asked Kosovo to be invited to participate in Eurovision 2025, in a similar way Australia also participates. Despite RTK’s effort, the broadcaster has not received the coveted invitation from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

In order for Kosovo to become a member of the EBU, and thus be able to participate in Eurovision, it must first join the International Telecommunication Union  (ITU) or the Council of Europe. Kosovo has yet to achieve any of these, due to its partial recognition.

Considering the political implications that occurred during Eurovision 2024, the inclusion of a country that is not recognized by all the participating states might was a harder decision than it may seem.
