The upcoming heat of Melodifestivalen 2024 will take place next Saturday, February the 24th and will take place at Stiga Sports Arena in Eskilstuna.

A while ago, SVT, the Swedish national broadcaster released the lyrics of all six competing songs, of this upcoming heat.

You can read the lyrics of the competing songs down below:

  • Done Getting Over You” – Albin Tingwall

For two hundred and one days you were mine

Back and forth yeah it’s been a hell of a ride

Looking back on how it all started

I should’ve known you were stone cold hearted

No matter how I try to win I lose

Won’t you take me home

No matter what you do

I run right back to you

Won’t you take me home

If you want my love

Just tell me what to do

I’m so done getting over

Yoooooou

I’m so done getting over

Yoooooou

I’m so done

For two hundred and one days you were mine

Take me back to the days we were doin’ just fine

Now I wonder how it all started

I should’ve known you were stone cold hearted

If you tell me it’s over, what’s the use

Won’t you take me home

No matter what you do

I run right back to you

Won’t you take me home

If you want my love

Just tell me what to do

I’m so done getting over

Yoooooou

I’m so done getting over

Yoooooou

I’m so done

(Take me home)

I’m so done being broken hearted

(Take me home)

(Take me home)

I’m so done being broken hearted

(Take me home)

Oh won’t you take me home

No matter what you do

I run right back to you (run back)

Won’t you take me home

(Take me home)

If you want my love

Just tell me what to do

I’m so done getting over

(Take me home)

Yoooooou

(Take me home)

I’m so done getting over

  • 30 km/h” – Lia Larsson

Jeans och väst

Vi ska på fest

Bilen glider fram som en dalahäst

Vi pumpar bas

I våran fas

Rullar fram på gatorna med öppet tak

Chilla

Det finns ingen som får köra om

Chilla

Trots att kön är kilometer lång

Chilla

Veva ner, höj volymen och häng med

Dunk dunk dunka 30 KMH

Och vi strögar gatan utan nummerplåt

Dunk dunk dunka dunka dunka hårt

Hela hjärtat slår i 30 KMH

Dunk dunk dunka 30 KMH

Och vi strögar gatan utan nummerplåt

Dunk dunk dunka dunka dunka hårt

Hela hjärtat slår i 30 KMH

Varva upp

Tagga ner

Vi kör 30 kilometer, inte mer

Du får skjuts

Om du har lust

Bilen flyger fram som en partybuss

Chilla

Det finns ingen som får köra om

Chilla

Trots att kön är kilometer lång

Chilla

Veva ner, höj volymen och häng med

Dunk dunk dunka 30 KMH

Och vi strögar gatan utan nummerplåt

  • It’s Not Easy to Write a Love Song” – Dotter

It’s not easy

to write a love song

When I can’t

leave the past behind

It’s not easy

to write you a love song

When all the words

are hard to find

Why won’t you

Throw your cigarette

Lay down in the bed

Tell me

How can we forget

About the things we’ve said

Let’s just

Put our minds to rest

Never slippin’ out of your hands

ooh

I’m falling into pieces

everytime you shoot me down

My heart is like an echo from the

bullets on the ground

I want you to

feel me every second

When I am

bleeding imperfections

It’s not easy

to write a love song

When we can’t

speak about it all

It’s not easy

to write us a love song

When all the hurting

has gone too far

Why can’t we

Dissipate our thoughts

Lay down heart to heart

Let’s just

cover us from all

the damage we have caused

We can

stay right where we are

Never let us fall

out of love

ooh

I’m falling into pieces

everytime you shoot me down

My heart is like an echo from the

bullets on the ground

I want you to

feel me every second

When I am

bleeding imperfections

Oh it’s not eas—

It’s not easy

to write you a love song

Oh it’s not eas—

It’s not easy

to write you a love song

It’s not easy

to write a love song

When I can’t

leave the past behind

I want you to

feel me every second

When I am

bleeding imperfections

Oh it’s not eas—

(It’s not easy)

It’s not easy

to write you a love song

(to write you a love song)

Oh it’s not eas—

(It’s not easy)

It’s not easy

to write you a love song

  • En sång om sommaren” – Lasse Stefanz

Minns du bryggan där vi satt

Långt in på lördag natt

Och nynnade en enkel melodi

Vattnet speglade intill

Varma vindar svepte fram

  • Happy That You Found Me” – Danny Saucedo

I used to think about how I get old

I used to worry about the things I owned

A picture of a picture

Doesn’t matter anymore

I never listen to that inner voice

I was too busy filling every void

That picture keeps on fading

And they can’t hurt you anymore

We’re heading for the sun

Our days have just begun

And now I’ll never let you go

I’m so happy that you found me

I’m so happy that you found me

Now heaven’s all around me

Just when I thought I was lost

I’m so happy that you found me

I was hiding in a dark place

Now heaven’s all around me

Now we’ll never be alone

I’m so happy that you found me

Oh oh oh oh oh

Oh oh

Oh oh oh oh oh

Oh oh oh

I was driving down a lonely road

With artificial miracles

I thought I could walk on water

But kept sinking like a stone

We’re heading for the sun

Our days have just begun

And now I’ll never let you go

I’m so happy that you found me

I’m so happy that you found me

Now heaven’s all around me

Just when I thought I was lost

I’m so happy that you found me

I was hiding in a dark place

Now heaven’s all around me

Now we’ll never be alone

I’m so happy that you found me

Oh oh oh oh oh

Oh oh

Happy that you found me

Oh oh oh oh oh

Oh oh oh

(Oh oh oh oh oh

Oh oh)

I’m so happy that you found me

(Oh oh oh oh oh

Oh oh oh)

I’m so happy that you found me

Sweden: Jacqline and Cazzi Opeia are the two direct finalists of the Third Heat of Melodifestivalen 2024!

Ninety minutes ago, the show for the Third Heat of Melodifestivalen 2024, started off on SVT and SVT Play. And we are here to share the results of the night with you!

The two numbers that qualify directly to the finals are Jacqline and Cazzi Opeia which we will get to see perform their songs live, on the 9th of March, when the finals will take place at Friends Arena.

But how things developed during the night?

The experts

New in Melodifestivalen this year is the participation of a couple of really knowledgeable music and Mello-experts – radio and TV profile Tina Mehrafzoon and Mello-oracle Ronny Larsson. During both the races and the final, they analyze the evening’s line-up and give their opinion on how they are doing.

The show

Carina Berg is the host of all the shows of the tour this year! With the next show of the contest on Saturday February the 17th, Melodifestivalen will take place in Växjö, then Eskilstuna follows and finally the final show in Stockholm on the 9th of March.

Carina Berg has Christine Meltzer and Carolina Gynning on stage this week. They had written a new lyric for The Ark‘s “Calleth You, Cometh I“, which is now called “Ringer du kommer vi” (If you call and we will come).

After the intro, Carina presented this show’s contestants!

The numbers

      • “Effortless” – Jacqline

We get a professional, “Effortless” performance, great production, great staging. She reminds me of a mix of Dua Lipa, songs of Little Mix and Alicia Keys vocals. She has a big rectangular prop, red is dominating the staging. At some point she lies down, goes on stage, then again back on the prop and holds herself while the prop lifts up. It is the most advanced production and most extensive camera work I’ve seen in the contest. Equivalent to Maria Sur’s, but red and more mainstream pop, less dance pop. Jacqline was the runner-up of Idol in 2021 and now it’s her time to shine!

      Photo: Stina Stjernkvist/SVT

      • “Aldrig mer” – Clara Klingenström

Clara has a large prop behind and above her. I would be scared as if it would fall down on me. She has issues with her lows, as she would have in her two previous rehearsals. “Aldrig mer” is not my favourite of all her participations.

      Photo: Stina Stjernkvist/SVT

      • “Take My Breath Away” – Kim Cesarion

Despite the technical issues in this weeks show, now I can say that Kim got the sleek camera-shots he deserves. His staging, reminds me a bit of Robin Bengtsson‘s 2017 stagings, especially the moment when the dancers enter. His performance gives me The Weeknd vibes, much improved with his vocals. He is holding back a tiny bit for tomorrow I think. It doesn’t sound like his style of music but he does it good. He has Marvin Asante and Greg Curtis as his chorus on stage and one of the writers of the song William Segerdahl off stage. That means that he will need to reduce the number of people on stage, should he get selected this year. He dances too, here come the disco moves.

      Photo: Stina Stjernkvist/SVT

      • “För dig” – Klaudy

Klaudy has restored the wetlands and has put them right on stage. If you can recall, last year, someone wanted to restore the wetlands. A guy stormed onto the stage when Loreen was performing her song in the fourth heat in Malmö. A pleasant song, in Swedish. I would listen to it on the radio, or on a road trip.

      Photo: Stina Stjernkvist/SVT

      • “I Won’t Shake (La La Gunilla)” – Gunilla Persson

La La Gunilla is a superstar. She shines in the wild west, which is the theme of her staging. Her teeth shine too and we learned she had a dentist appointment when we had the press conference today. The whole package is a mess. It is uber-trash. But maybe people like this. She is a big thing in Sweden and I am unsure for what reason. Her vocals are very bad, but very much improved than her previous rehearsals. She at least now sounds in sync with the instrumental. The crowd cheers, not as hard as I would expect. If I had to decide, I would disqualify her.

      Photo: Stina Stjernkvist/SVT

      • “Give My Heart A Break” – Cazzi Opeia

Moa (Cazzi‘s name), has a very strong trademark sound. You listen to her music you know it’s her. As when I first listened to Loreen‘s Tattoo I immediately knew she had to do with the “Tattoo-oo-oooo” part. Not as distinctive as “I can’t get enough” but people love it. She begins singing inside a large keyhole prop, uses a dimple camera effect and kaleidoscope I kinda got dizzy. She wears a fluffy pink suit which is totally her and I love to see this. Her vocals are amazing. This is fun, crazy and has the amount of kitsch that we need and as much as we can all handle. The LED backdrop shows a heart in yellow and pink.

      The Intervals

Also, today in Växjö, the director, screenwriter and commentator Edward af Sillén is awarded the Hall of Fame award. From now on, he is also a member of this well-known group of artists, hits and creators who have all been of great importance to Melodifestivalen over the years.

Christine Meltzer goes up on stage and does an impersonation of Gunilla Persson, who is competing at this week’s Melodifestivalen show. She wears the same dress as Gunilla and then the real Gunilla joins her and compliment’s Christine as a fantastic body double.

Then a short video of Björn Gustafsson with the CEO of Sveriges Television Hanna Stjärne.

Sweden: Demonstration in Stockholm against Israel in Eurovision! | Around 2000 people protest!

An estimated 1,500 to 2,000 people have gathered at Odenplan in Stockholm for the demonstration, according to a police officer on site. The procession went to Gustav Adolfs Torg where the Ministry for Foreign Affairs has its office.

In the procession, several Palestinian flags were seen and the demonstrators chanted several slogans for Palestine.

Many had pictures of watermelons – a symbol of Palestinian struggle, and from the back of a car the demonstrators were urged to try to coup watermelons into the Melodifestivalen‘s TV broadcasts again, as two activists did last week. Per Hussein, who is involved in arranging the demonstration, says:

“The watermelon is a symbol of freedom and justice. The only people who would oppose such a symbol are those who stand against freedom and justice, and I don’t see why anyone would want to do that.”

Several of the demonstrators carried placards with messages about Israel’s Eurovision participation. Protester Lubna al Sheikhly said:

“Everyone agreed that Russia should not be involved. Now, after the deaths of 30,000 children, Israel is allowed to participate. This is not right.”

EBU: Israel’s public service broadcaster does not break the rules

The Eurovision organizer EBU‘s position is that the music competition is not between countries, but between public service broadcasters and that Israel‘s companies have not violated the contest rules.

There have been calls to ban Israel from Eurovision 2024, like 1000 Swedish musicians that signed today a petition to the EBU against Israel outside NRK right during the first two weeks of MGP. In Iceland, more than 500 artists signed a petition asking RÚV to withdraw from the contest, while Silvia Night signed an open letter to the EBU asking to ban Israel. In Finland1300 artists signed a petition asking for Israel to be removed. The British representative Olly Alexander has also shared in public his opinion against Israel. Also just recently Montaigne signed an open letter to the EBU asking the ban of Israel from the contest and Ben Dolic joined her by doing the same.

Sweden: Heat 3 of Melodifestivalen 2024 tonight!

Tonight marks the continuation of what may be the most anticipated national final of the year, Melodifestivalen 2024. The host of Eurovision 2024 aims for Sweden’s historic eighth victory on home soil in Malmo, and for this reason, SVT’s executives promise one of the strongest Melodifestivalen editions of all time, ensuring that the successor to Loreen achieves the best possible result for the Scandinavian country.

Format

This year’s Melodifestivalen introduces a new format, featuring five heats, each hosting six artists. From each heat, the top two contenders will directly advance to the grand final on March 9th.

However, artists ranking third and fourth in their respective semi-finals will participate in a voting after the fifth semi-final. This voting will determine the two remaining finalists who will “complete the puzzle” of the twelve artists competing in the grand final of Sweden’s national selection.

During the five semi-final rounds, the final results will be determined solely by the votes of Swedish viewers. This, of course, will change in the grand final on March 9th, where Sweden’s representative will be decided by a 50% vote from Swedish viewers and a 50% vote from an international jury, following the Eurovision Song Contest standards.

The dates of Melodifestivalen 2024

Sweden: Edward af Sillén, scriptwriter of Eurovision 2024, inducted into the Melodifestivalen Hall of Fame!

After the success of Eurovision in 2013 and 2016, Edward af Sillén is preparing to once again hold the helm of the contest – as scriptwriters and also as director.

In Saturday‘s competition from Växjö, the director, screenwriter and commentator Edward af Sillén is awarded the Hall of Fame award.

From now on, he is also a member of this well-known group of artists, hits and creators who have all been of great importance to Melodifestivalen over the years. Christer Björkman, chairman of the Hall of Fame committee says:

“Passion, talent and love permeate everything he has done for and in our program. The Eurovision Song Contest is really a part of Edwards’ DNA.”

The motivation reads: When Petra Mede became one of the most popular presenters of all time in 2009, it was with Edward af Sillén‘s direction and script behind her.

After this, Edward has over the years in script and direction combined the love for Mello with a wonderful humor with edge and sharpness.

He has directed unforgettable performances and created magical interludes, such as Danny‘s ”Karl för sin kostym”, Perrelli‘s ”Här står jag” and Sarah Dawn Finer‘s “Lynda Woodruff“. That Edward belongs in the Melodifestivalen Hall of Fame is to quote his classic parody with Christine Meltzer as Malena Ernman: – “Inget konstigt alls” (Nothing strange at all).

An emotional Edward af Sillén expresses:

“I’m actually a bit speechless and very humbled by this honor. The fact that the work that I and my talented colleagues did for Melodifestivalen and Eurovision is still mentioned and referred to is flattering enough. This award is a key increase I was not prepared for. Thank you.”

Hall of Fame in brief

The Melodifestivalen Hall of Fame was established in 2020 to celebrate and highlight special achievements and unforgettable Mello memories in the program’s long history. Since the start of Melodifestivalen in 1958, lots of colorful artists and melodies have made an impression on Swedish music and the soul of the people.

In December each year, viewers can nominate their Hall of Fame proposals in the Melodifestivalen app. Based on these proposals, the Hall of Fame Committee will then select five award winners to receive the award in 2024. The inductees receive a statuette, the Gold Star – shaped like part of a star’s ray. The idea behind it is that the combined efforts form a whole.

Sweden: The general rehearsal of the Third Heat of Melodifestivalen 2024! (Live)

The general rehearsal of the 3rd Heat of Melodifestivalen 2024 has just started. We are happy to be watching it live, at Vida Arena in Växjö, Sweden. We will be covering this rehearsal, describing in detail what is happening during the show, for you to follow the entire process.

This article is being updated in real-time, all you need to do is hit the refresh button on your browser and all the rest is on us!

We will keep you up to date with all the latest information and images off this semi-final rehearsal, allowing you to get a glimpse of what you will get to see tomorrow February 17, at 20:00 CET, when you watch the actual show of the heat, on SVT and SVT Play.

Carina is now at the arena and everything is ready to begin! It’s time to face the music!

Carina Berg has Christine Meltzer and Carolina Gynning on stage this week. They have written a new lyric for The Ark‘s “Calleth You, Cometh I“, which is now called “Ringer du kommer vi” (If you call and we will come).

After the intro, Carina presents this show’s contestants!

“Effortless” direct finalist.

  • “Aldrig mer” – Clara Klingenström

Clara has a large prop behind and above her. I would be scared as if it would fall down on me. She has issues with her lows, as she would have in her two previous rehearsals. “Aldrig mer” is not my favourite of all her participations. I think she would struggle to qualify, not to mention remain in the competition. Could be a shocking non-qualifier.

Would he qualify? I am unsure. Both cases are possible.

Would he qualify? Let’s see.

Her four dancers are yellow and remind me of Kex choklad. Her vocals are amazing. This is fun, crazy and has the amount of kitsch that we need and as much as we can all handle. The LED backdrop shows a heart in yellow and pink. DTF for me.

These were the six numbers of this week, a recap follows to show the voting numbers for the contestants of the heat.

The Intervals

Carina Berg ends up with a bearded type in the audience that looks like he came right out of Cast Away movie. There are cheers immediately. It’s amazing how much the audience loves Björn Gustafsson. Björn has asked not to reveal much about his part of the interval today that is the general rehearsal.

Now it’s time for the first virtual results.

Also, in Saturday‘s competition from Växjö, the director, screenwriter and commentator Edward af Sillén is awarded the Hall of Fame award.

Sweden: Insight into the Melodifestivalen 2024 3rd heat songs! | SVT Pre-Listening Event

Melodifestivalen 2024 second show is on the forthcoming Saturday, February the 17th, which will take place at Vida Arena, in Växjö.

The Pre-listening Process

This year, we are invited to the pre-listening event that SVT holds every Tuesday at 10am CET, before each of the five heats of Melodifestivalen 2024, or as it is called “Förhandslyssningen“. Approximately 50 people, carefully selected by SVT are invited to listen the entire songs of each heat in the pre-listening events. So, we had the chance to listen to the entire running order of this week’s heat twice.

But what about the songs of this heat?

  • “Effortless” – Jacqline

“Effortless” has a very interesting sound. It is kind of a mix of the style of Little Mix and Dua Lipa. I could totally see it in the final show. Cazzi Opeia‘s contribution in the song is really obvious. Could be an “Effortless” DTF of this week?

Janne Danielsson/SVT

  • “Aldrig mer” – Clara Klingenström

Pop epic sound by Clara, not my favourite of her Mello-participations. If the Swedes decide to vote for a song in Swedish, they might vote for it. For me she will probably remain in the competition. Nice bridge but definitely not a DTF in my opinion.

Photo: Magnus Liam Karlsson

  • “Take My Breath Away” – Kim Cesarion

Nice intro! Pop-dance song that I totally love. “You tay-ay-ay-ay-ake my breath away” is a hook that gets stuck to your head. Could be a DTF or remain in the competition instead!

Photo: Magnus Liam Karlsson

  • “För dig” – Klaudy

Obviously a love song-ballad that gives you the feels even though it is entirely in Swedish. I don’t think it reminds me of any other song, I like it! Could remain in the competition or get disqualified.

Photo: Magnus Liam Karlsson

  • “I Won’t Shake (La La Gunilla)” – Gunilla Persson

There wouldn’t be Melodifestivalen without an entry like this. Basically Gunilla describes her life in not the best vocs of the bunch but it’s totally fun. Not sure if it will do well, the crowd will love it/her though. It is uber-trash, if I may use this expression and you will totally get it when you listen to it.

Photo: Magnus Liam Karlsson

  • “Give My Heart A Break” – Cazzi Opeia

Strings are totally Moa, her distinctive sound is there. It is a song that mixes happines and nostalgia. I can see a staging full of light and colours. Love the bridge and the hook. DTF maybe?

Our thoughts

After a second listen, I think that Jacqline and Cazzi Opeia would be the direct finalists. Jacqline is a very well produced song and I am expecting it to be as well produced visually. Also Kim Cesarion and Clara Klingenström could remain in the competition. The staging is still the missing piece of the puzzle here. Regarding the songs in Swedish, Clara’s song has a clear edge compared to Klaudy’s song. However, I don’t think that Klaudy will either directly qualify or remain in the competition.
