Ireland: The team for Eurovision 2024

Bambie Thug provided details about their Eurovision 2024 performance of the song “Doomsday Blue.”
The performer disclosed their plans to collaborate with choreographer Matt Williams and Director Sergio Jaen for their performance in Sweden.

Williams has contributed to numerous Broadway productions such as “Gypsy” and Will Ferrell’s “You’re Welcome America.” Sergio Jaen, a Spanish director known for his queer perspective, has helmed various films and commercials for artists worldwide. Notably, Jaen oversaw the production of the music video for “Doomsday Blue.”

Regarding the presentation of their Eurovision performance, Bambie Thug remarks:

“My lips are sealed on that one. I don’t want to give anything away before the performance but what I can say is that my choreographer Matt Williams, my director Sergio Jaen and I have created a truly beautiful concept and piece for the big stage. I feel in a way it’s Bambie Thug as you’ve never seen before. I’m really excited and working very hard to deliver something that stands out on that big stage.”

Bambie Thug secured the opportunity to represent Ireland at Eurovision 2024 by emerging victorious in Eurosong 2024. Garnering the top scores from both the Irish jury and the public vote, they clinched third place in the international jury vote.

The song “Doomsday Blue” was collaboratively written and composed by Olivia Cassy Brooking, Sam Matlock, Tyler Ryder, and Bambie.

Ireland is slated to perform during the first half of the First Semi-Final on May 7th.

Ireland: “Doomsday Blue” is a potential Eurovision winner according to Johnny Logan!

This Friday all eyes were on Ireland, which selected its Eurovision entry for 2024. On a special edition of “The Late Late Show” and following the combination of the votes from an international and a national jury along with the public vote, Bambie Thug was declared the winner and therefore the Irish representative in Malmö.

Although Ireland was a true Eurovision powerhouse in the past, dominated the 90’s with three consecutive wins and now shares the record for the most victories in the contest along with Sweden, nowadays it really seems to struggle when it comes to qualifying to the Grand Final. The risky choice of Bambie Thug and their song “Doomsday Blue” appears to be nicely welcomed by the Eurovision fandom, setting the bar high for a qualification and a potential return in the top ten for the first time since 2011.

Moreover, “Doomsday Blue” is praised inside Ireland too, with the two-times Eurovision winner Johnny Logan even predicting that:

They could win the Eurovision with this song.

On an interview he gave to Sunday World, Johnny Logan praises this year’s Irish entry, mentioning that:

I think it’s a very good choice and it will definitely get attention. What I saw last night is that it was eye-catching and different. The people who were watching obviously related to it and that’s why it was chosen.

The thing about Bambie Thug is that it works…it’s a very visual thing the way they presented themselves. It’s different enough to be eye-catching.

He also adds that:

If it doesn’t end up doing really well at Eurovision I will be quite surprised. I’ve always hoped that the Irish songs would do well over the last few years, but I never really felt that they would. This one I think has a really good chance. It just depends on the make up of the jury and the other songs that are in the contest.

According to Johnny Logan, the secret of Bambie Thug’s potential success is that they do not fall into the trap of trying to copy last edition’s winning song. Instead, they reserve their authenticity and originality and they remind nothing of Loreen.

I wish Bambie the very, very best at Eurovision and I would say to them to enjoy the experience.

Hence, the originality of Bambie Thug’s act is the key to success according to Johnny Logan. We can all agree that Logan’s opinion matters as all of his Eurovision involvements were successful, has won the contest twice as a singer and once as a composer for Linda Martin in 1992.

Bambie Thug will represent Ireland at the 68th Eurovision Song Contest, which will be held in Malmö, Sweden. The semi-final in which Ireland will be allocated this year will be made public this Tuesday.

Ιreland: Bambie Thug will represent the country in Malmö with “Doomsday Blue”!

Just a while ago, Eurosong 2024, the Irish national selection for Eurovision 2024, was concluded. Eurosong 2024 served for another year as the country’s selection method for Eurovision and was hosted during a special edition of The Late Late Show, on RTÉ’s studio live from Dublin.

Hosted by Patrick Kielty and following the combination of votes from an international jury, a national jury and public televoting, Bambie Thug was crowned as the winner with their song “Doomsday Blue“.

378 entries were submitted to the Irish broadcaster, out of which six entries were advanced to the televised final aiming for the Irish representation in Malmö. The six competing songs were revealed from January 8 to January 12 on “The Ray D’Arcy Show” and are the following:

  1. Isabella Kearney – “Let Me Be the Fire”
  2. Bambie Thug – “Doomsday Blue”
  3. JyellowL ft. Toshín – “Judas”
  4. Alisha – “Go Tobann” (Suddenly)
  5. Next in Line – “Love Like Us”
  6. Erica-Cody – “Love Me Like I Do”

Eurosong 2024 – in detail

Isabella Kearney – “Let Me Be the Fire”

A nice opener overall. It didn’t feel as the strongest vocal performance of the night. The song is not that memorable too. Nice try with the stage performance, though!

Bambie Thug – “Doomsday Blue

100% honest. It is a complete chaos. The song is confusing itself and I actually caught myself confused by watching the performance and not in a good way. At least, their vocals were okay and the theatrical expressions on point. I guess you will either love or hate “Doomsday Blue”.

JyellowL ft. Toshín – “Judas

The song is not that catchy itself and it simply does not give Eurovision vibes. The rap part was not bad at all, while the singing part was not good either. Same with the stage presentation. What both the song and the performance missed was that Eurovision vibe.

Alisha – “Go Tobann

The song has a nice ethnic vibe. However, the vocal performance was not strong, while the staging felt really messy. The performance needs to be massively elevated for Eurovision stage.

Next in Line – “Love Like Us

The cheesiest song of the selection. They don’t harmonize good enough and it sounds out of tune. The performance looked like it just came out of a talent-show. The energy is not present either and there is no chemistry between the group members. Personally, I’m not convinced.

Erica-Cody – “Love Me Like I Do

A song that screams Eurovision. It’s fun, it’s catchy and it has a key-change. The performance was okay bearing in mind the production of the show, as well as Erica’s vocals – except that final high note. Personally, I think that “Love Me Like I Do” would be Ireland’s best choice, although I’m not quite sure whether it would be enough for a spot in the Grand Final.

The voting procedure

An international jury along with a national jury and the public audience vote decided in equal shares who would fly the Irish flag in Malmö.

International Jury

The international jury voted as following:

12 points – “Love Like Us”

10 points – “Love Me Like I Do”

8 points – “Doomsday Blue”

6 points – “Go Tobann”

4 points – “Judas”

2 points – “Let Me Be the Fire”

Next in Line topped the international jury voting, with Erica Cody and Bambie Thug following in the second and third place respectively.

National jury

The national jury voted as following:

12 points – “Doomsday Blue”

10 points – “Go Tobann”

8 points – “Judas”

6 points – “Love Me Like I Do”

4 points – “Let Me Be the Fire”

2 points – “Love Like Us”

Bambie Thug topped the national jury voting, with Alisha and JyellowL ft. Toshín following in the second and third place respectively.

Audience’s vote

The TV audience voted as following:

12 points – “Doomsday Blue”

10 points – “Love Like Us”

8 points – “Go Tobann”

6 points – “Love Me Like I Do”

4 points – “Judas”

2 points – “Let Me Be the Fire”

Bambie Thug won the public voting, followed by Next in Line and Alisha.

The winner

Following the combination of the above and with a total of 32 points, Bambie Thug was crowned as the winner of Eurosong 2024 and will therefore serve as the country’s representative in the 68th Eurovision Song Contest that will take place in Malmö in May.

Ireland: Two Eurosong’s contestants believe that Israel should withdraw from the Contest!

The official entry for Ireland in Eurovision 2024 is scheduled to be revealed tonight. However, two contestants of Eurosong 2024, the Irish national final, believe that Israel should not be allowed to participate in Eurovision; at the same time, one of them has shared her thoughts of not representing Ireland in May in case she is the winner of Eurosong 2024.

Tonight Ireland is going to select its official entry through Euroson and “The Late Late Show“, nevertheless the two participants believe that the exact same case of Russia’s expulsion from the Contest, should be implemented here as well.

These two participants are Erica Cody and Bambie Thug, who perceive Israel’s participation as unaccepatable since the war of Gaza continues to be raged. More specifically, the former has stated:

We need to see the same energy that was given to Russia when they invaded Ukraine, it should be exact the same. I think it’s an absolute disgrace. This is meant to be a celebration of life and music, and acceptance and love.

Moreover, when Erica Cody was asked if she could consider the possibility of not competing at all in May if she wins tonight, she stated:

We will cross that bridge when we get to it but I think anybody who knows me and knows me morally over the last couple of years should know that I would never step into something like this with an ignorant head on my shoulders.

Erica Cody is the odds’ big favourite of victory tonight, and it would be of great interest to see what she will decide to do if she is the winner of Eurosong 2024.

The candidates for Ireland’s representation who are going to compete tonight at Eurosong 2024 are the following:

  1. Isabella Kearney – “Let Me Be the Fire”
  2. Bambie Thug – “Doomsday Blue”
  3.  JyellowL ft. Toshín – “Judas”
  4. Alisha – “Go Tobann”
  5. Next in Line – “Love Like Us”
  6. Erica-Cody – “Love Me Like I Do”

The official entry of Ireland will be decided through an equal voting procedure among the public, an international jury and a jury present at the studio.

You can watch live Eurosong 2024 at 23.35 (Greece’s time) by clicking here.

Bambie Thug: I am the wildcard Ireland needs! | Interview

Bambie Thug from Ireland gave an interview to Eurovisionfun’s Paschalis. They introduced themselves to us, gave us some hints about the performance in Eurosong 2024 and told us about the message of the song.

About Bambie Thug and their music style

I like to fuse a lot of styles into one. I don’t like to put me in a box. I’m a singer, actor and dancer.

I’m a goth obviously, I love to wear black all the time. I also love theatre. I studied musical theatre in London. I love to create characters and different worlds. I love to play in all aspects of the world.

Why did they decide to participate in Eurosong 2024

We’re tied with Sweden for the wins. It’s been a long time since Ireland has been in the competition and they need a shake. I’m probably the wild card. It’s 50 years since ABBA won and I love them and I thought that I got to do it this year. My friends encouraged me to enter. Hopefully my country vote me in, it will be the right choice!

What is the song about?

I don’t write any music with anything in mind. I just write music. Doomsday Blue is about having your potential overlooked in releationships, in life, in career. It’s about being taken for granted, but also knowing your worth. It highlights perfectly all the facets of me musically from rock to screamy pop to jazz to electro metal. It’s a really fun song. It’s a task really to perform too. It’s not an easy task to sing it, it’s a challenge for me and I love challenges. I believe in a song, I don’t think there is a song that sounds like that anywhere else, so that’s why I decided to enter with it.

How has the experience with Eurosong been so far?

That’s great. It’s nice to talk to so many people and see how well it’s being received. I’m really grateful to be able to show my art to my country. My career is mostly in the UK. Ireland didn’t have a clue and that’s really special to me, being accepted by so many people in my own soil.

What can we expect to see on stage?

You can expect gorgeous costumes and an infectious performance.

Are they a Eurovision fan?

I’ve been watching Eurovision with friends in the UK. My friend Luke Black was there last year and it was cool to see him representing Serbia. There’s always something that I love, a song, the costumes, the spectacle.

Who’s their favorite Eurovision entries?

Conchita Wurst and obviously my friend Luke and Cha Cha Cha.

Would they collaborate with any Eurovision artists?

I would love to collaborate with ABBA!

Bambie Thug’s message to our fans

Please continue to support your little goth gremlin goblin witch in this journey and thank you for all your love. I’m willing to give you something really special! Love and witchcraft!

We thank Bambie Thug for this interview and wish them best of luck in this year’s Eurosong!
