Eurovision 2022: Behind the scenes of Turin stage construction!

The first images and videos of construction of the Eurovision 2022 stage at the PalaOlimpico in Turin can now be seen on social media.

There are already images from construction inside the arena suggest that the stage may be one of the largest in recent years of the contest:

The concept behind the design is called “The Sun Within” which relies on movements and light of a kinetic sun. The stage is able “to showcase theatrical motion, which is framed by water and will have a lush Italian garden lapping up the rays in front of it”.

There is a video on Twitter that shows the building of the stage:

The creative mind behind the design is Francesca Montinaro, who has also created the stages of Sanremo Music Festival two times (2013 and 2019), explained what inspired the idea for this years stage:

Italy, with its sun its sea, art and nature, but above all to represent Italians with their unique vocation to adapt and welcome.

Another video was posted that shows a large LED wall behind the stage construction:

Also it has been known through Instagram that viewers can also expect an LED floor on the stage:

The design will also incorporate a Green Room at the front of stage which is inspired by the feel of baroque gardens such as those at Villa d’Este, Castel Gandolfo, Villa Lante or other estates across Italy, while the water reminds people of fountains in a park. Francesca Montinaro has explained that she wants to make sure that every artist has a platform to express their identity through the stage.

The Eurovision Song Contest returns to Italy this year following Måneskin’s victory at the 2021 contest with their song “Zitti e Buoni”. The 2022 contest will be hosted on 10th, 12th, and 14th May at the PalaOlimpico in Turin.

With less than 50 days before Eurovision 2022 kicks off, it’s time to see which songs have been used in the most videos on the social media app TikTok as of April 3rd.

On TikTok, next to having a library of music you can add on your videos in the app, some people upload videos to the app with the sound already included in the video. However, the clever TikTok algorithm is usually able to detect the song that is being used on the video, allocates it under the right song and then includes it on the number of total amount of videos where that sound has been used on.

The most used songs from Eurovision 2022 on TikTok are:

  1. Italy: Mahmood & Blanco – Brividi – 158.8K videos
  2. Ukraine: Kalush Orchestra – Stefania – 124.6K videos
  3. Sweden: Cornelia Jakobs – Hold Me Closer – 13.9K videos

  18. Latvia: Citi Zēni – Eat Your Salad – 249 videos
  19. France: Alvan & Ahez – Fulenn – 189 videos

For the entry of Latvia, Eat Your Salad by Citi Zēni, the number under the official audio is 249, while there is unofficial audio that has been used in more than 9000 videos.

In the past years, TikTok has played a big role on making Eurovision songs mainstream hits. For example, Duncan Laurence’s winning entry “Arcade” became a worldwide hit a year after winning the contest when being used in over a million videos on TikTok. One of the earliest TikTok hits from Eurovision was Getter Jaani’s “Rockefeller Street” that went viral on the app in 2018 and has been since used in over two million videos since.
