Germany: “ESC vor acht” to promote National Final!

ARD, the Germany broadcaster, announced the beggining of eight short length shows for the promotion of their national final this year.

The name of those shows is “ESC vor acht”, which means Eurovision before eight, and they will be broadcasted for eight days at 20:15. The show will promote “Germany 12 points” and will also show the history of Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest.

“ESC vor acht” will be on the German TV those dates:

  • Monday 21 February 2022
  • Tuesday 22 February 2022
  • Wednesday 23 February 2022
  • Thursday 24 February 2022
  • Tuesday 1 March 2022
  • Wednesdasy 2 March 2022
  • Thursday 3 March 2022

The main goals that the channel wants to achieve with those shows is to promote online voting, which will start at February 28 until March 4, and also make Eurovision more appealing to older people, that’s why the shows will be broadcasted before the news.

The German National Final, “Germany 12 points”, will happen at the 10th of March and the participants would have already been revealed at the 10th of February.

In 2021, the country was represented by Jendrik and the song “I don’t feel hate” which achieved the 25th place with only 3 points.

Germany: “Lied für Turin” is expected to take place at the beginning of March!

It looks like ARD has come to a conclusion that they will show the German preliminary round “Lied für Turin” within the first half of March.

Counting five placements below the 25th position, in the last six years of the Eurovision Song Contest, Germany has to step things up in the future. The German broadcaster has received harsh criticism, therefore, all the parties involved with Eurovision are now carefully planning their next steps towards Turin.

As announced two months ago by the Bavarian station Bayern3, that belongs to the wider network of ARD, “Lied für Turin” format returns. The Bavarian state radio invited all interested parties to submit their proposed entries, that could represent Germany at Eurovision 2022 by the 30th of November.

The Selection

According to Bayern3, the submitted songs will be examined by a relevant committee, which will then select the five entries that will compete in the grand final of “Lied für Turin”. This committee consists of executives of Bayern3, Antenne Brandenburg, Bremen 4, HR 3, MDR Jump, NDR 2, SR 1, SWR 3 and WDR 2, members of the German broadcasting network.

The big winner of the German national final will represent Germany in the 66th Eurovision Song Contest.

The information about the date of the German national final comes from a newly added job listing that came up yesterday, which shows that they are in search of an assistant receptionist for the beginning of March at the venue where “Lied für Turin” will take place in Berlin. However, ARD has not confirmed the exact date of the show so far.

Last year, Germany came 25th, with Jendrik performing his song “I Don’t Feel Hate”. The German entry received only 3 points from the jury voting and none from the televoting.
