Portugal: Second Festival da Canção 2023 Semi-Final tonight!

The Festival da Canção 2023 continues tonight, through which Portugal will choose its representative at Eurovision 2023.

The Portuguese national selection will take place on three different nights: two semifinals on February 25th and March 4th and the grand final on March 11th.

Contestants

Ten artists are participating in tonight’s second semifinal of the Festival da Canção 2023. These artists are:

  1. Edmundo Inácio – “A Festa”
  2. The Happy Mess – “O Impossível”
  3. Teresinha Landeiro – “Enquanto é Tempo”
  4. Bandua – “Bandieras”
  5. Bárbara Tinoco – “Goodnight”
  6. Inês Apenas – “Fim do Mundo”
  7. Ivandro – “Povo”
  8. Dapunksportif – “World Needs Therapy”
  9. Lara Li – “Funâmbula”
  10. Voodoo Marmalade – “Tormento”

Six artists will qualify for the grand final. The six finalists will be chosen by 50% of the will of the Portuguese public and 50% of the preference of the jury.

Presenters of the second semifinal of the Festival da Canção 2023 are Sónia Araújo, Jorge Gabriel and Inês Lopes Gonçalves.

Portugal: The results of Semi-Final 1 of Festival da Canção 2023!

A moment that many Eurofans were anticipating for a long time, has finally come. Festival da Canção 2023 has officially started today and will last for two more weeks. Some minutes ago, the First Semi-Final of Portugal‘s national final though which their Eurovision 2023 representative is being selected, has been completed. The show took place at RTP studios in Lisbon, while the presenters of the night were Tânia Ribas de OliveiraJosé Carlos Malato and Inês Lopes Gonçalves.

The jury that is voting in the semi-finals is composed of:

  • Alex D’Alva (songwriter at Festival da Canção 2019 and 2021)
  • Carlos Mendes (representative of Portugal in Eurovision 1968 and 1972)
  • Márcia (participant in Festival da Canção 2017)
  • Maro (representative of Portugal in Eurovision 2022)
  • Neev (participant in Festival da Canção 2021)
  • Pedro Ribeiro (radio host)
  • Sara Correia (singer)
The ten songs that claimed the six tickets for the final are:

Blanca Paloma’s Performance

The Spanish representative for Eurovision 2023 appeared as a guest act in the First Semi-Final of Festival da Canção 2023. She performed a different version of “Eaea”.

Results:

The six finalists were determined 50% by the jury and 50% by the TV audience. The exact ranking of the artists by both the jury and the TV audience was not announced at the end of the evening. The detailed results will be made public at the end of the festival.

Portugal: The running order of the semi-finals of Festival da Canção 2023 was revealed!

A few minutes ago, RTP, the public broadcaster of Portugal, announced the running order of the two semi-finals of this year’s Festival da Canção, through the festival’s official Instagram account.

This is the running order of the 20  artits competing in the two semi-finals of Festival da Canção:

First Semi-Final (February 25)

Festival da Canção 2023

Out of the 20 songs, ten will compete in each semifinal, while in the Final we will have 10 songs, 5 from each semifinal. The result will consist of an equal percentage (50%) of the jury and television audience, with the committee having the first say in case of a tie in qualifying for the fifth participation of each semifinal.

The semi-finals of Festival da Canção will take place on February 25 and March 4, while the Grand Final, where the representative of Portugal will be chose, is set to take place on March 11.

Portugal: The is the allocation draw for the semi-finals of Festival da Canção 2023!

Just a while ago, the publiv broadcaster of Portugal,RTP, revealed the allocation of the 20 competing artists, in the two semi-finals of Festival da Canção 2023!

The wel-known Portuguese music festival will return for another year and the winner and country’s representative in Eurovision 2023, will be decided through two semi-final rounds and the Grand Final. This is how the semi-finas look like, after the allocation draw took place in the headquarters of RTP:

Portugal: Festival da Canção 2023 composers revealed!

RTP, the national broadcaster of Portugal, has revealed the composers who will take part in Festival da Canção 2023 .

As announced, RTP out of 20 composers invited 16, the remaining four were selected through a public submission open to the public between September 2 and October 21.

A few days ago, one of the invited composers had a personal event that prevented him from being present at the Festival da Canção 2023. Thus, RTP decided to accept five instead of four applications from the public song submission.

Cláudia Pascoal previously represented Portugal at Eurovision 2018 with the song “O jardim”.

Τhe final of Festival da Canção will take place on March 11. Τhere will be two semi-finals before the grand final, likely to take place on Febraury 25 and March 4.

MARO represented Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin, Italy with the song “Saudade, saudade” . She received 207 points and finished in 9th place.

Portugal: 667 songs were submitted for Festival da Canção 2023!

Some time ago RTP, Portugal’s public broadcaster, revealed through the official Instagram account of Festival da Canção, that 667 songs have been submitted to take part in the national  final.

The song submission window opened in September 2 and closed on October 21, while the four songs and artists that will claim the ticket for Liverpool and Portugal’s representation in Eurovision 2023 will be revealed in the coming days.

Like last year, Festival da Canção will host 20 acts, 16 songs of those being written from songwriters of different genres invited by RTP. The remaining 4 will be selected by the open submission process.

The national final will feature two semi-finals, with five songs from each, qualifying for the final. The Grand Final will take place with 10 songs, and the winner will be decided by a combination of 50% public vote and 50% jury vote.
