Sweden: First betting odds for Melodifestivalen 2024 | Danny Saucedo is the hot favourite!

It has been only a few hours since the announcement of the participants at Melodifestival 2024, but the first betting odds have already begun, depsite the fact that the participating songs release of the first semi-final will have to wait for two more months.

The big favourite for the victory is Danny Saucedo, who aims a dynamic come-back in the music industry of Sweden through his participation in Melodifestivalen 2024. This is going to be his fifth participation in this particular music festival.

His entry “Happy That You Found Me” was composed by Kristoffer Fogelmark, John Martin and Michel Zitron. The latter was involved in the production of two global music hits, Don’t you owrry child” and “Save the world” of Swedish House Mafia and has also collaborated with artists like Avicii and Alesso.

In the second place of the betting odds are the Norwegian twins Marcus & Martinus Gunnarsen who took part in Melodifestivalen 2023 and finished in the second place.

In the third place we see Liamoo, in fourth place the popoular among the eurofans Dotter while the first top five ends with a tie between Maria Sur and Smash Into Pieces.

At this point it should be mentioned that the betting odds are currently based only on the names of the particpants. Comparing the current face of the betting odds with the respondent one of previous years, we can see that the betting odds were confirmed only in 2014, 2015 and 2023.

Netherlands: Jacqueline Govaert is really positive on the country’s next participation!

Jacqueline Govaert was one of the latest members to be added to jury of AVROTROS, the Dutch public broadcaster, in order to select the best possible song for Eurovision Song Contest 2024.

Talking to RTL’s camera, Jacqueline said some very interesting things ad she is very positive on the next Dutch participation:

“Yes, I have heard some songs, it will be a lot of fun and yes, I have a very good feeling about this year. I’m very excited for sure. They all sang their songs live which is also really cool, because it’s very different from just listening to a recording. This is my first time on the selection committee, so I don’t know how things were done before. One thing I notice though is that this process went very well. First of all, I have a lot of love for pop music and songs, so first you listen to all the songs and then it’s up to you to decide which song is best. And you also think, “What song fits in there? Who’s going to be able to pull it off?” So there are many aspects involved. Cornald Maas is of course also one of the juries, and he has a lot of experience. So he cares more about the history of Eurovision. And so we all strive to achieve the best results.”

You can watch the whole interview of Jacqueline Govaert HERE.
Do you think her positive feeling will translate in a good result for the Netherlands?

Last year, Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper represented the Netherlands with the song “Burning Daylight”. The entry placed 13th in the semifinals, marking the country’s first elimination since 2015.

Eurovision 2024: Gina Dirawi to host Eurovision Song Contest 2024?

We are a tiny bit less than six months away from next year’s Eurovision Song Contest and there are still no clear details about what SVT has planned on the stage or the hosts of the shows.

But here came Aftonbladet‘s Natalie Demirian and Viktoria Hummelstedt, who reported at Aftonbladet TV that according to several readers who had contacted them, Gina Dirawi might have revealed some details when she was recording last week’s “Hellenius Hörna“, a TV4 tv-show. But let’s dive into more detail about what has happened.

Gina was asked about Melodifestivalen and also about whether she will or will not lead Eurovision, next May in Malmö. Dirawi started talking a little about it, before she interrupted the whole thing -according to people who were on-site as an audience- and said that they are not allowed to say anything about what they had just heard, because she herself is not allowed to talk about it yet. She is said to have become very stressed about it and there must have been a strange atmosphere in the studio.

It is still highly unclear if her reaction was this due to the fact of her being bound with an NDA or for any other reasons. On one hand it doesn’t have to mean anything at all, on the other hand we cannot completely rule out the fact that she might be one of the hosts next year, it is just not impossible that she is in it. Time will tell if she will be one of the hosts of next year’s Eurovision Song Contest, which was brought back to Malmö after Loreen won with her entry “Tattoo” by accruing her second victory eleven years after her first one.

Who is Gina Dirawi?

Gina Dirawi is a Swedish television presenter, singer-songwriter, radio personality, blogger, comedian and actress. She is best known as the first woman ever to host Melodifestivalen on three occasions: in 2012 alongside Helena Bergström and Sarah Dawn Finer, in 2013 alongside Danny Saucedo and in 2016 with guest co-hosts in each show. Dirawi was also the Swedish spokesperson at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2016, announcing the results of the Swedish jury vote from Eurovision: The Party in the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm. Gina is of Palestinian descent and her family comes from Lebanon, and it would make much sense if SVT had selected her to be one of the hosts of the contest, which will take place in the most pro-Palestinian city of Sweden at times when there still might be an ongoing middle-eastern conflict between Israel and Palestine.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2024 is organized in collaboration with the city of Malmö and will be broadcast from Malmö Arena on Tuesday 7 May (semi-final 1), Thursday 9 May (semi-final 2) and Saturday 11 May (final) after Loreen won for a second time in Liverpool with the song “Tattoo“.

Ireland: 380 submission for Eurovision 2024!

Close to 380 is the number of entries for Ireland’s national final, the Late Late Show.

Michael Kealy, the head of Ireland’s delegation in the Eurovision Song Contest in an interview with Adam Mc Calling via TikTok revealed more details surrounding the selection process. In particular, he stated that the number of participations that have been submitted is around 375 to 378 and is the largest number that has been submitted since he took up this role. Michael Kelly and the rest of the team after listening to all the suggestions have singled out 60 songs which are characterized by a wide variety. Then it was mentioned that in the next phase of the proces,  each member of the jury will present their personal top ten to come up with the four artists/acts that will take part in The Late Late Show. However towards the end of the interview it was noted that there are two names that will be singed-out and rpoceed to the final night via fast-trach process bringing the number of finalists to six.

Eurovision 2024: Second chance to buy tickets soon! | Floor standing tickets will be available!

Earlier today the first tickets for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö were released. The interest was great and the tickets for all the live broadcasts sold out during the afternoon, while there were still a few tickets left for the rehearsals.

Ebba Adielsson, executive producer of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, confirmed what we reported in our article earlier today that not all ticket types were available to purchase today for production reasons and commented:

“It’s great fun with the great interest and of course we want to offer as many people as possible to see one of the nine shows between May 6 and 11. For production technical reasons, we could not release all tickets now. More tickets will be offered later so those who did not get a ticket now will have a second chance.”

Due to the high pressure on the ticketmaster.se website, they have chosen to slow down the pace to ensure that ticket sales take place in a safe manner. Ebba said:

“We are happy that the technology worked as it should and at the same time grateful for the patience the ticket buyers had in the long queues.”

There was huge engagement even when the BBC released their tickets for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, a telecast watched by over hundreds of millions of people worldwide and millions more online.

“It is only half a year since the fantastic competitions when Loreen took home the historic win, certainly that and the great buzz on social media may have contributed to the great interest in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024”

says Ebba Adielsson.

Eurovision 2024: Ticket-chaos in the first few hours of the general sale!

At 10 CET today morning, the tickets for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö were released. Malmö Arena can accommodate 15.000 spectators, but a bit after the ticket release, over 400.000 people were already queueing up in order to buy tickets for the grand final on Saturday evening, May 11.

It seems like floor standing tickets will become available at a later stage, on the second wave of ticket sale, as SVT need to get an exact capacity after accounting for cameras and set design. Same thing had happened last time the contest was hosted in Malmö Arena, back in 2o13. At the same time, fans around social media keep on complaining that all floor-standing tickets were allocated to OGAE members.

Tickets for last year’s final night in Liverpool sold-out in just 36 minutes, while this year it can be assumed that it took a bit less that 20 minutes for the final tickets to be sold-out, as there were many complains by fans that despite getting in, they couldn’t get tickets for the final show at all.

Ticket Prices

  • Semi-finals – Evening rehearsals: 145 – 795 SEK
  • Semi-finals – Afternoon rehearsals: 145 – 545 SEK
