The official video clip of Luxembourg‘s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, in Malmö, Sweden, was released today.

A few hours after the release of the revamped version of the song (here), with which the Grand Duchy returns to the competition after 31 years, the official video clip of “Fighter” was released through the official account of the Luxembourgish representative, Tali, which you can watch below.

Eurovision 2024: Skånetrafiken releases unique tickets adapted for the Eurovision week!

Skånetrafiken, the regional public transport carrier of the region of Skåne – where Malmö is located, is developing two new tickets that are valid when the Eurovision Song Contest will be held in the region!

In the first week of May, thousands of visitors are expected to visit the region Skåne. Skånetrafiken has decided to make it easy for everyone to choose to travel by train and bus and is therefore producing two adapted tickets for the Eurovision week. Both tickets are valid for eight days, 5-12 May. One is valid for the whole of Skåne and the other for over the Öresund Bridge, which connects the city of Malmö with the city of Copenhagen in Denmark, and in the whole of Skåne.

The tickets can of course be bought regardless of whether you are going to see Eurovision or not. 

This is how the tickets work:

  • Eurovision Skåne: Travel unlimited within Skåne for eight days for only 350 SEK (approx. 31 Euros). 
  • Eurovision Skåne/Copenhagen: Travel to and from Copenhagen with the Öresund train and throughout Skåne for eight days for only SEK 700 (approx. 61 Euros). 

Tickets can be purchased from April 15 to May 12 via the app which can be downloaded for Android or iOS devices via Google Play or Appstore respectively!

Update 16:57 CET:

Pernilla Lyberg, Sales and Marketing Manager at Skånetrafiken, says in a press release:

“We want to make it possible for as many people as possible to travel by bus and train. We will strengthen all traffic and have developed two really advantageous tickets.”

Changes to train services during the Eurovision week:

• Extra trains will go to Ystad and Trelleborg during the evenings.

• Some trains that would normally have Lund as their final station will continue to Hässleholm.

• Extra train to Helsingborg in the evening.

• Extra train to Copenhagen on Thursday, May 9th, when Denmark participates in the semi-finals.

Skånetrafiken writes that they also plan to increase the number of buses during the week and have customer hosts on site around Malmö. The customer center at Malmö Central Station will also extend its opening hours during the week.

In addition, skanetrafiken.se will be partially translated into English.

United Kingdom: Olly Alexander starts rehearsals and releases the extended version of “Dizzy”!!

The representative of the United Kingdom Olly Alexander has started rehearsals for Eurovision 2024 as the singer has his sights set on the competition in Malmö!

Through the social media Olly Alexander gives a first image to the fans from the rehearsals for the 68th Eurovision Song Contest. In the video below you can take a look at the rehearsals that Olly himself posted.

Furthermore the Birtish artist released the extended version of “Dizzy”, the song with which he is going to represent the United Kingdom in the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest. The extended version lasts 1 minute and 30 seconds longer than the one Olly is going to perform on the stage of Malmö!

Iceland: Israeli influence behind Hera Björk’s victory!

According to the Icelandic press the Israeli broadcaster KAN is behind the campaign against Bashar Murad.

The Israeli Yogev Segal who organized the campaign against Bashar Murad in Söngvakeppnin, Iceland’s selection show for the Eurovision Song Contest, according to the Icelandic website MANNLÍF, is an employee of Israel’s public broadcaster. Yogev Segal is the founder of a Facebook discussion group for Icelanders who support Israel.

Yogev Segal seems to have urged all members of this group to vote for Hera Björk in the final of Söngvakeppnin 2024. That is, he suggested that Israel’s supporters in Iceland should urge as many people as possible to vote for Hera Björk’s song. It was, according to him, the safest way to ensure that there would be no Palestinian on the stage of the competition in Sweden in May.

Within the aforementioned group, Segal admits to working for Israel’s state television, KAN, which, like the Icelandic one, is responsible for Israel’s participation in Eurovison. He suggests that reporting on his campaign is grist to the conspiracy theory mill. Finally he claims that Israel had no interest in the Icelandic national final.

For the record, Söngvakeppnin 2024 was won by Hera Björk with the song “Scared of Heights”, however this year the participation of the country is not considered certain, as the issue of the conflict in the Middle East between Israel and Palestine and the participation of the former in the competition is a point of friction in Iceland’s public sphere. The final decision on whether the island of ice and fire in Malmö will take part is expected today.

Italy: RAI wants Amadeus back to Sanremo!

Italy’s public broadcaster RAI wants Amadeus back as artistic director of Sanremo.

Not even a month has passed since the end of this year’s Sanremo festival, and it seems that it is not easy for RAI to let go of the previous artistic director of the festival, who for quite some time had announced that 2024 would be the last year that he would be in this position.

According to Italian media, RAI has resumed negotiations with Amadeus in an attempt to convince him to renew his contract for two more years, i.e. until 2026.

However, later Amadeus himself live from the show Viva Rai 2 put an end to the aforementioned scenarios saying that there was indeed a meeting with the director of public television of Italy, however there was no proposal to continue in the future in the position of artistic director of Sanremo.

Ireland: RTÉ bombarded by emails against Israel!

RTÉ is bombarded by emails urging the boycott of the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest given the participation of Israel!

The national broadcaster has received over 1400 emails calling for a boycott of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 most of which RTÉ says are related to Israel’s participation.

In addition, the organization itself states that the emails started on January 26, that is, the day when the national final of Ireland, The Late Late Show Eurosong special, was held, emphasizing, however, that about 1000 of them were copy-pastes.

One spokeperson of RTÉ commented that:

“Same content, signed and sent by different emailers”

Calls for Israel to be excluded by Eurovision 2024 organizers due to military operations in the Palestinian territory of Gaza are related to the European Broadcasting Union’s decision to exclude Russia in 2022 due to military operations in Ukraine.

Ireland will be represented at this year’s competition in Malmö by Bambie Thug and the song “Doomsday Blue”. The country will compete in the first half of the first semi-final on 7 May in a bid for one of the ten tickets to the grand final on Saturday 11 May.

Israel: EBU takes into account new threats against KAN!

The European Broadcasting Union, EBU, expresses its concerns regarding the new threats against the indepedance and the sustainability of the Israeli public broadcaster KAN!

One month ago, the Minister of Communications Shlomo Karhi seems to have stated that “there is no place for public broadcasting in the State of Israel”.

Moreover, the Government threatened to withdraw the fundings towards the piblic broadcaster something that would lead to the shut down of the KAN and the news operation and to an important loss of jobs.

In addition, there are also plans of depriving KAN’s ability for commercial revenue, which would lead to 13% income reduction, and of transfering three of the most popular radio stations to commercial owners.

The current crisis has been escalated as the Minister of Communications through a letter towards the Director General of KAN questions their reporting of the government’s judicial reforms and the protests against them.

The Director General of EBU Noel Curran stated that:

“Impartial news and information are critical to the functioning of a healthy democracy. 

“We call on the Israeli government to safeguard the independence of our Member KAN and ensure it is allowed to operate in a sustainable way, with funding that is both stable, adequate, fair, and transparent.”

Australia: Listen to the official teaser for Eurovision 2024!

SBS, the national broadcaster of Australia, released today the official teaser of the entry for Eurovision 2024 in Malmö, Sweden.

A few hours ago SBS published a small teaser of the participation of this vast country of Oceania for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024! You can listen to the relevant excerpt below.

As we have already informed in our previous article the official release of the Australian entry for the 2024 contest is scheduled to take place on 6th of March!

Australia: Entry to be revealed on 6th of March!

Australia was allocated in the second half of the first semi-final on Tuesday 7th of May, claiming one of the ten tickets for the grand final of Saturday 11th of May.

Iceland: With Hera Björk and Scared of Heights in Malmö!

Τhe grand final of Söngvakeppnin 2024, the national process through which the representative of the island of ice and fire in the Eurovision Song Contest is sworn took place tonight. This year, however, the country’s participation is not considered certain, as the issue of the conflict in the Middle East between Israel and Palestine and the participation of the former in the competition is a point of friction in the public sphere of Iceland. The grand final of Söngvakeppnin 2024 took place in Laugardalshöll, Reykjavík.

As in the previous two semi-finals, the grand final was presented by Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir, Sigurður Þorri Gunnarsson and Unnsteinn Manuel Stefánsson.

The show started with a tribute to Selma and Iceland’s 1999 entry that finished in 2nd place. Selma herself opened the final night with a live performance of Out of Luck!

The contestants

Five artists participated in the grand final where they performed their entries in English apart from the Væb who chose to keep their song in Icelandic. At this point we remind you that the rules allow the artists to choose the language of their preference.

The artists of the first round of the final performed as per below:

With the end of the competitive part of the first round, the telephone lines were opened for the voting of the televoters.

First Round results

In the first round the two artists who advanced to the second round resulted from the combination of the votes of the television audience and the jury.

The two artists who made it to the second round were:

  1. Hera Björk – “Scared of Heights”
  2. Bashar Murad – “Wild West“

Second Round results

In the second round of the final the two aforementioned artists performed their entries again where the result was decided only by the vote of the television audience.

Before the announcement of the results, last year’s representative of Iceland, Diljá, took the stage.

After the end of the voting, the winner was Hera Björk with Scared of Heights!

Hera Björk with Scared of Heights and Iceland, in case RÚV does not decline the participation in the Contest, is scheduled to take part in the second half of the first semi-final of 7th of May claiming one of the ten tickets for the grand final of Saturday 11th of May.

This is going to be the second time Hera Björk represents Iceland after 2010 when she finished 19th in the final.

Switzerland: Is “The Code” the title of Nemo’s entry for Eurovision 2024?

The official announcement of the song and the representative of Switzerland is just a few hours ahead.

It seems that the dice has been cast and Nemo is going to represent the country at the upcoming 2024 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden. According to a leak on X, it seems that the title of the next Swiss entry has the title “The Code”.

“The Code” was written by Nemo themselves and a team of composers with a great experience in Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix.

These are:

  • Linda Dale: Lyrics and Composition of, “Queen of Kings” and “Woman Show”.
  •  Benji Alasu: Lyrics and Composition of “FREYA”.
  • NYLAN (Lasse Nymann):
  • Lyrics and Composition of “Geronimo”.

Nemo was the choice of a wide international jury panel some members of which are also eurostars like Luca Hänni (Switzerland 2019) and Teya (Austria 2022)

The entry of Switzerland is going to be revealed tomorrow at 11:00 CET.
