Italy: The first betting odds of Sanremo 2023!

The 73rd Sanremo Song Festival will be held in February, but the betting companies, shortly after the announcement of the competing artists, have already given the first odds on the winner, who will probably also be the representative of Italy in Eurovision 2023.

The big favorite seems to be Ultimo, who was also the favorite and came very close to the victory of Sanremo 2019. At that time he even won the televote in the final stage of the festival with a percentage of 49%, compared to only 21% collected by Mahmood, who however secured his victory thanks to the support of the juries.

The popular artist Marco Mengoni, winner of Sanremo and Italy’s representative at Eurovision 2013, follows with a small margin, while a victory seems also possible for the legend of the Italian music industry, Giorgia, and the fan favorites, Elodie and Madame.

See the betting odds in detail:

Of course, all of the above are subject to change, once the journalists exclusively listen and review the participating songs.

For the analysis of the participating artists in Sanremo 2023 you can read our article.

We remind you that Festival di Sanremo 2023 will be held from the 7th to the 11th of February. In addition to the above artists, the top six ranked artists in Sanremo Giovani, which will be held on December 12, will also win a place among the Big of Festival di Sanremo in February.

Last year’s winners of Festival di Sanremo, Mahmood & Blanco, went on to represent host country Italy at Eurovision 2022 with their song “Brividi”. They managed to bring their country to the top 10 of the Grand Final for the second year in a row, finishing in 6th place:

Italy: Festival di Sanremo 2023 finalists to be announced on December 4!

The artistic director and presenter of Festival di Sanremo, the well-known Amadeus, attended the Milan Music Week and spoke about the hot topic of the Italian music industry, the big music festival!

In detail, he said that he will announce the finalists of Festival di Sanremo 2023, next Sunday, December 4 on TG1 on 13:30 CET.

He stated that for yet another year, what is of utmost importance in the selection process is the song and not the singer as “the song is what brigs the success to the singer and not vice-versa”.

We remind you that Festival di Sanremo 2023 will take place from February 7 to 11, and apart from the artists that Amadeus will announce next week, the top three artists of Sanremo Giovanni, will win a ticket to participate in Festival di Sanremo in February.

The previous winners of Festival di Sanremo and Italy’s representative in Eurovision 2022 was Mahmood & Blanco with the song “Brividi“ and they managed to bring their country in the top 10 of the Grand Final for the second year in a row, finishing 6th:

Junior Eurovision 2022: Listen to Italy’s song!

One of the last countries to reveal their entry for Junior Eurovision 2022 is Italy. The country had previously announced that Chanel Dilecta will represent the country in the contest and now the only country left to reveal its song for Junior Eurovision 2022 in Armenia, is the host country itself.

Chanel’s song is called “BLA BLA BLA” and is entirely in the Italian language.

The young singer has aslo studied singing and ballet since the age of 4, along with the piano, modern dance and stage art; all of which has come in handy when competing in international competitions such as TMF (Tour Music Fest) 2021, the Italian Performer Cup (2021) and The Coach Contest.

Eurovision 2022: President of RAI talks about Eurovision and Russia’s ban from the contest!

Italian state broadcaster RAI’s president Marinella Soldi, who is a former CEO of Discovery Networks Southern Europe, has a longstanding rapport with the Eurovision Song Contest. It’s the show on which she remembers first seeing ABBA, one of her favorite pop bands, “with their white flares.”

Soldi more recently was mesmerized by Måneskin and the swagger of the Italian glam-rock band, which by triumphing last year at Eurovision, against all odds, caused RAI to be host broadcaster of the 2022 edition of this massive event.

In a rare interview, Soldi talked about the politically heated lead-up to this year’s contest and the European Broadcasting Union’s decision to ban Russia from competing at Eurovision after the country’s invasion of Ukraine. She also noted that, though the war is causing pain and suffering in Europe and throughout the world, Eurovision’s audience still has a “fundamental human right” to joy.

Do you think banning Russia was the right decision?

It’s so hard to know what the right answer is, but I think it must stay non-political. And the decisions that were taken were taken with plenty of ponderation and great timing. And that’s why they are not part of this event.

Simply put: how big of a deal is this year’s Eurovision for RAI?

Massive! For all sorts of reasons. They say that winning the Eurovision contest is a poisoned chalice, because on the one hand you celebrate; on the other you think: ‘that’s us next year, having to organize it!’ It’s massive, but fortunately the Sanremo Festival  is a great school. We are an EBU case study as to how this year Sanremo managed to attract its highest ratings in 23 years. But of course doing it in an arena, involving 40 delegations coming in, and in a new location. It’s a big deal from that perspective.

Of course, it’s the first Eurovision being held fully in-person without limitations since the pandemic struck.

Yes, there is this zeitgeist around it. We first experienced this at Sanremo. That is the whole notion of actually being able to hug people, dance with people and just be around people. It’s like lifting the lid off a pressure cooker. There is this great need for this! Possibly because it’s so international, it also has a travel element to it. It’s also people coming from all over. And being able to arrive from all over. Suddenly we are back to hearing that Babel of languages that makes one sigh with relief and say, “Ok, maybe we are going back to normal.”

Before last year’s Måneskin victory, how big was Eurovision in Italy? My impression is that local enthusiasm was quite muted. What types of ratings are you expecting for the show in Italy this year?

For me Eurovision is an absolute “must-see.” But in Italy, Sanremo has way outshined it. It hasn’t been so central. But everything changed last year with Måneskin. It’s not just the victory of Italy. It’s Måneskin themselves and the incredible success and exposure that they’ve had. From a focus perspective it positions RAI as more inclusive to the younger generation. Without a doubt that is a challenge for all public service broadcasters.

Do you expect the ratings in Italy to be better than they were last year?

Yes, we had had a 25% audience share last year, which was its highest ever…Of course it will peak during the Måneskin performance.
