Poland: Luna was not TVP’s first choice?

Yesterday, TVP revealed that the winner of the Polish internal preselection was Luna with her song “Tower“. Luna finished in the first place with a total of 34 points, while Justyna Steczkowska and Kayah and Dagadana on the second and third place respectively.

However, some internal sources from TVP claim that Luna was not the jury’s first pick and the voting had to be repeated.

Problem with the song selected originally?

According to the aforementioned sources, Kayah and Dagadana won the original jury vote. However, according to a pre-selection juror, some problems with the song prompted TVP to repeat the voting process.

The first issue was related to Eurovision’s regulation having a maximum number of six people on stage. Because the song involved more than six artists, changes would be required to meet Eurovision standards, as well as the use of a shortened version of the song. Second, there was a chance that the song would not meet the contest’s regulations, but no further information was provided on this matter.

Furthermore, the bid would serve as the soundtrack to a Polish film, which raised concerns for TVP, despite the fact that the record label reported no issues.

As a result, TVP decided to hold another round of voting. Luna finished second in the original vote.

Was there actually a problem?

Both the musicians and the record label are unaware of all of this. They all claim that they were not informed of any problems with their bid and were only aware that they finished third.

Because the song’s composers were not informed of any issues by TVP, it is unclear whether there were legitimate legal reasons for repeating the voting process or if it was solely due to TVP.

Anyway, Luna was TVP’s final choice for Eurovision 2024 with her entry “Tower“. Poland will perform on the first half of the first semi-final on May 7.

Poland: Luna will represent the country in Malmö with her song “Tower”!

We finally have an announcement. Luna is the winner of TVP’s internal selection for Eurovision 2024 and will therefore represent Poland in Malmö with her song “Tower“.

The announcement took place this morning, while the Polish entry was uploaded on the official Eurovision YouTube channel.

Poland: Artists ready to take off to Malmö!

Regardless the ongoing chaos in TVP at the moment and no information given regarding the country’s selection process for Malmö, the interest remains high in Poland. Some well-known artists are ready for Eurovisions, have their proposals ready and are waiting for TVP decisions.

Let’s take a closer look to the artists interested in the Polish representation in Malmö!

Justyna Steczkowska

Following an extensive speculation on whether the Polish diva is ready for her long-awaited Eurovision return, Justyna confirmed that her new single “WITCH-ER Tarohoro” is ready to be submitted for Eurovision.

During the “New Year’s Eve stage with Dwójka” show, Justyna performed her new song live, amazing the audience with the slavic sound as well with her impressive dance routine. Fans inside Poland as well as the vast majority of the Eurovision fandom went crazy with her performance, which counts already a big amount of reaction videos on YouTube regardless the fact that a Eurovision participation is just a plan for Steczkowska.

Luna

One of the country’s rising stars in the pop music scene, Luna, has also expressed her interest in representing Poland at the Eurovision Song Contest. In fact, as she announced via her Instagram account, her submission “Tower” will be released later on January.

Edyta Górniak

Justyna Steczkowska is not the only former representative planning on returning to the contest. Edyta Górniak known as Poland’s first representative at the Song Contest as well as the holder of the country’s best result up to this date, appears to be preparing a song for Malmö. It is not the first time that rumors say she is preparing a bid for Eurovision. Back in 2021, she was also named as a potential representative.

Edyta’s relationship with Eurovision has not always been easy. Following her involvement in last year’s scandalous preselection, she ruled out any involvement with the contest again. However, she never denied a potential return with the condition of having an appropriate song and team to support her entry.

Bearing in mind that she is considered as a Eurovision legend in Poland and the fact that 2024 marks the thirty-years anniversary of Poland’s debut in the contest along with her participation, the most likely scenario is that she would take on Poland’s representation only via an internal selection.

Doda

Doda, a multi-awarded Polish singer, has never kept her wish to perform at the Eurovision stage secret. Two years ago, in 2022, she did not submit her song on a deadline and was therefore denied a participation on the Polish preselection.

Doda expressed her willingness to participate once more on January 3. She asked fans on her Instagram story if she should submit the song “Mama” to Eurovision. The song has already received over 300,000 views on YouTube since its release on December 30. Fun fact, the team behind her song is also behind Justyna’s proposal.

Poland at Eurovision 2024

Up to this date, there is no official statement regarding TVP’s choice or selection method for Eurovision 2024. Following the elections in October, there were also major changes made inside TVP causing uncertainty on Poland’s fate in Eurovision. Recently, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of Poland announced that following the suspension of funding of public media, a liquidation of the respective companies would follow.

Regardless the ongoing backlash in Poland there is still no information on how the recent events will affect the country’s participation in Eurovision 2024. In any case and following last year’s scandals, Poland might go for an internal selection.

Last year, Poland was represented in Liverpool by Blanka and her song “Solo”, finishing eighth in the public voting and nineteenth overall.
