As usual, a few days before every Heat, the Swedish national broadcaster, SVT, published snippets of all six competing songs of the fourth Heat of Melodifestivalen 2025.

Sweden: Conflicting First Reports on Måns Zelmerlöw’s “Revolution”

Selected journalists had the opportunity today to listen to the songs competing in the fourth semi-final of Melodifestivalen 2025. Among them was Revolution by Måns Zelmerlöw, arguably the most highly anticipated entry—not just in Melodifestivalen but in the entire Eurovision season. However, based on initial reports, Revolution does not seem to be convincing as a winning song for Eurovision 2025 in Basel.

According to those who attended the listening session, Revolution bears a strong resemblance to Heroes, the song with which Zelmerlöw won Eurovision in 2015. Specifically, it is once again inspired by Lovers on the Sun, much like Heroes was. Some listeners also drew comparisons to John Newman and Smith & Thell. Others described it as somewhat outdated, suggesting it would have been more fitting for Eurovision a decade ago rather than in 2025.

Of course, there are also those who believe that Revolution is the best entry among all national finals this year and has the potential to win Eurovision 2025 in May.

Sweden, mainly due to Måns Zelmerlöw’s participation, currently leads the betting odds by a significant margin for victory in the 69th Eurovision Song Contest. However, if Måns fails to convince as a potential winner on Saturday, major shifts in the odds are expected, making the race for Eurovision 2025 even more unpredictable.

Will Måns Zelmerlöw manage to win Melodifestivalen 2025 and, subsequently, Eurovision? We’ll find out more when he performs live on the Melodifestivalen stage this Saturday.

Sweden: Over 2.2 Million Viewers for the Third Semi-Final of Melodifestivalen 2025!

Last Saturday, the third qualifier of Sweden’s biggest music festival, Melodifestivalen, took place to determine the country’s representative for this year’s Eurovision competition.

A little over 2.2 million viewers tuned in to watch the third qualifier of Melodifestivalen 2025, showing a slight drop in viewership compared to 2024!

2,224,000 viewers watched the third qualifier of Melodifestivalen on SVT1, surpassing last week’s TV ratings in Sweden. However, this qualifier saw a drop of 338,000 viewers compared to the second qualifier, which attracted over 2.5 million viewers. It’s important to note that the figures reported by MMS only include TV viewers and not those following on SVT Play.

Next Saturday, Melodifestivalen continues with the 4th Qualifier, where six more contestants will battle for the two spots that lead directly to the grand final:

Sweden: The results of the third Heat of Melodifestivalen 2025!

Moments ago, the third Heat of Melodifestivalen 2025 concluded, with two entries advancing directly to the grand final, while one more will move on to the next heat for another chance to secure the golden ticket to the final.

What’s changing this year?

Changes to the format were announced on 22 August 2024. A total of 30 entries will take part in the competition across five heats. Each heat consists of six songs, with the top two songs directly qualifying for the final. Unlike in the previous edition, only the third-placing song will proceed to a final qualification round at the end of the fifth heat, which will now feature five songs instead of ten. The top two songs in the final qualification will then progress to the final, which will comprise 12 songs. The winner of the final will be determined by the usual 50/50 combination of votes from the public and an international jury.

The performances:

  • Greczula – “Believe me”

The evening opened with Greczula performing the song “Believe Me.” Its was a unique, melodic song with rock and pop elements, that in many moments reminds of the legendary “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen. His entire performance was centered around a piano that was on stage. Greczula vocals were good and his energy was also amazing, reminding once again, like the song, the unique frenzy of Freddie Mercury, especially at the beginning and the end of the song where he was seated at the piano.

  • Malou Prytz – “24K Gold”

The familiar face of the competition, Malou Prytz, performed a pure pop song titled “24K Gold”. In line with the title, her entire performance featured a strong gold element, with a beautiful stage design that included golden beads hanging from the stage. Additionally, the intense light changes, as well as the choreography, complemented the style of the song perfectly.

  • Björn Holmgren – “Rädda mig”

A song in Swedish laguage followed, by Björn Holmgren, titled “Rädda mig.” It was a pleasant track, an intense ballad with a beautiful melody. His stage presence resembled a waiting room, with waiting chairs, a window, and a clock ticking during moments of the song, where each person could interpret it in a different way.

  • Dolly Style – “Yihaa”

The country entry of the night, with a pop twist, came from the female band Dolly Style. The four performers sang the song “Yihaa”, wearing οutfits that referred to cowgirls and wigs, each with a different color choice. At the whole performance, the stage was flooded with color, dance, and energy. It was definitely a dynamic performance, a colorful rodeo, that got the crowd excited.

  • Angelino – “Teardrops”

Angelino was the next artist of the night, performing a modern, radio-friendly pop song titled “Teardrops”. He initially appeared on stage alone and was later joined by dancers. The entire performance seemed well-rounded and flawless, with quick scene and lighting changes that kept the energy high. Vocally, he was on point as well, with the highlight being the high note towards the end of the song.

  • Annika Wickihalder – “Life Again”

Last but not least, was Annika Wickihalder with the dynamic-pop song “Life Again”. It was an atmospheric performance, especially from the middle of the performance onwards, when the dancers appeared and the stage was filled with fabrics and tulle in earthy tones from the ceiling. She seemed to enjoy herself while performing her song, her vocals were amazing and she was full of energy.

Melodifestivalen 2025 third Heat, will begin in a few moments and six contestants will have to compete against each other tonight, in order to secure one of the direct finalist places, or if not directly qualifying to the finals to remain in the competition, as their last chance in the hopes of competing at the finals.

Melodifestivalen 2025: All Eyes on the Third Heat Tonight!

The journey to find Sweden’s next Eurovision act continues tonight with the third heat of Melodifestivalen 2025!

The host country of Eurovision 2024, Sweden is aiming for a record-breaking eighth win, and SVT has promised a spectacular edition of its most beloved music show to make that happen. With exciting new format changes and a diverse lineup of artists, this year’s Melodifestivalen has already sparked major interest across the Eurovision community.

Melodifestivalen 2025: The New Format

This year, the format has been revamped:

  • 5 Heats instead of 4, with 6 acts competing in each.
  • The top 2 from each heat will qualify directly for the Grand Final.
  • The 3rd-place acts from each heat will enter a second-chance vote after Heat 5, where 2 more finalists will be chosen.

In total, 12 acts will perform in the Grand Final on March 9.

Voting:

  • In the heats, the result is 100% decided by the public.
  • In the final, a 50/50 split will apply: Swedish televote combined with the votes of an international jury, following the Eurovision format.

Sweden at Eurovision: Aiming for #8!

Sweden is the reigning Eurovision champion after Loreen’s historic second win with “Tattoo” in Liverpool 2023, tying with Ireland for the most wins (7).

The Swedish national broadcaster SVT, published the rehearsal clips (30 seconds of each) of all six competing artists of the third Heat which will take place on Saturday, February 15th at ABB Arena Syd, in Västerås
