Latvia: Listen to the songs of Supernova 2024!

Latvia continues the process of selecting a representative for Eurovision 2024 and presents us the songs that will compete in the semi-final of Supernova 2024!

The jury has chosen the 15 artists who will participate in the Supernova 2024 semi-final, which will take place live on 03 February. The winner of the contest, will be determined by the jury and the public in the final vote held on 10 February and will have the opportunity to represent Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden in May.

The 15 artists and songs we will see in the Supernova semi-final are:

  1. Agnese Rakovska – “AI”
  2. Alekss Silvers – “For the Show”
  3. Avéi – “Mine”
  4. “B/H” – “Amsterdam”
  5. Dons – “Hollow”
  6. Ecto – “Outsider”
  7. Edvards Strazdiņš – “Rock n’ Roll Supernova”
  8. “Funkinbiz” – “Na Chystu Vodu”
  9. “Jar of kings” – “Wildfire”
  10. Katrīna Gupalo – “The Cat’s Song”
  11. “Papīra Lidmašīnas” – “Mind Breaker”
  12. Patrīcija Spale – “Heaven’s Raining Down on Me”
  13. St Levića – “Tick Tock”
  14. Sasha Sil – “Love is a Language”
  15. “Vēstulēs” – “Kur?”

Among the 15 artists we see well-known names such as Dons, the pop star of latvia where he will participate for third time in Supernova and Agnese Rakovska who was the representative of Latvia in 2017. Also participating again are Alekss Silvers, Avéi and Katrīna Gupalo. 

In the semi-final, the audience will have the opportunity to meet the participants and evaluate the performance of the songs live for the first time, while in the final they will choose the winner of the competition. Both in the semi-final and the final, the role of the audience and the jury will be equally important. The Winner will be determined by the total score of the public calls and texts and the vote of the jury.

The Supernova 2024 schedule is as follows:

  • Semi-final – 03 February
  • Final – 10 February

Latvia: Tomorrow the announcement of artists and songs of Supernova 2024!

Latvian public television, LTV, has announced that the unveiling of the artists and songs of Supernova 2024 will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, January 9, at 08:00 in the morning, through the LTV1 show, Rīta Panorāma.

As LTV has already announced, 108 entries, from domestic and foreign creators, were submitted this year for Supernova 2024.

In February we will be able to see the live performances of the artists in TV shows. The public will be able to vote for their favorite artists along with a jury in the final.

Latvia: Will country’s pop star Dons compete in Supernova 2024 with “Hollow”?

Dons is Latvia’s biggest pop star right now, and his first English-language single release in ages has many believing we’ll see him avenge the country’s insult at Eurovision 2024.

Hollow is the first English-language song by Dons (Artūrs Šingirejs) since 2006. The comments accompanying this release on social media have been very positive, with most speculating and hoping that Dons’ participation in Supernova 2024 will be, the country’s national final for the selection of Latvia’s participation in Eurovision 2024.

Dons attempted to represent Latvia twice in the past and both times came second in the national selection.

The participants of Supernova 2024 will be revealed in January. In February we will be able to see the live performances of the artists in TV shows. The public who can vote for their favorite artists together with the jury in the final. The number of shows and the exact format of Supernova 2024 have yet to be announced.

Latvia: 108 entries were submitted for Supernova 2024!

LTV, Latvia’s national broadcaster, will use the Supernova format to select its Eurovision 2024 act once more. As announced via its official account on X, 108 entries from both domestic and foreign creators were submitted for the national selection. When compared to the 2023 edition, Supernova 2024 received thirteen fewer entries.

Agnese Štrause-Kubliņa, the head of LTV ‘s youth and entertainment programs mentions:

We have received 108 unique and personal compositions in a wide variety of musical genres, which proves that music is a universal language that unites us all. The response of musicians to participation in the competition and the annual active involvement of the audience in voting proves how important it is for each of us that Latvia is represented in honor at the Eurovision Song Contest, which is watched by millions of viewers around the world, with a song that sounds bright and convincing on the biggest stage in Europe

The jury will evaluate the originality, arrangement, message, and relevance to current market trends in selecting the songs for “Supernova,” which will be broadcasted live on television. Moreover, the vocal abilities of the musicians, their previous achievements in the music industry and their potential for future success will also be taken into account.

The participants in Supernova 2024 should be disclosed in January. Then, we will first watch the live performances of the artists in TV shows in February. During the final, the winner of the selection will be decided by the public along with a jury. Supernova 2024’s exact format and number of shows are still to be announced.

Latvia was represented at Eurovision 2023 by Sudden Lights with their song “Aijā“. Sudden Lights only finished 11th in the first semi-final, marking the sixth-consecutive non qualification for Latvia.

Latvia confirms participation. The search for Eurovision 2024 begins!

Latvia has joined the list of countries confirming their participation for Eurovision 2024.  The first details for their selection process have been revealed today.  First of all, Latvia will start their search for their new Eurovision representative through their national final Supernova.  The country has renewed for another year Supernova as their national final for Eurovision.

Supernova 2024

Starting from tomorrow until December 1st, 2023, the applications are open.  Artists can send their proposals via public broadcaster’s LTV website.  LTV will announce the final list of participants for Supernova 2024 on January 2024.  Following the first announcement of the songs, the wishful representatives will compete in a semi-final and a grand final that will take place in February.  A split vote from the audience and a jury will decide the winner of Supernova which will represent Latvia in Malmö.

This will be Latvia’s 24th Eurovision representative.  The Baltic country won the contest in 2002 with Marie N’s I Wanna.  Unfortunately, Latvia has struggled to qualify for the final in recent times. Last time we watched Latvia in the final was in 2016.

Who will represent Latvia in 2024?  Will they break the non-qualification streak?
