Luxembourg: Tali Initially Participated with Another Song in the Luxembourg Song Contest!

This year’s representative of Luxembourg, Tali, initially participated in the country’s selection with another song, not with “Fighter”.

The song was written by Jimmy Martin, who was a member of the band Modern Times, which represented Luxembourg in Eurovision 1993, before the country’s long withdrawal for 31 years. He brought the news to light, revealing that he was the composer of Tali’s first song, with which she secured the spot in Luxembourg’s selection for 2024.

In fact, he stated that as soon as it was announced that Luxembourg would participate in Eurovision 2024, he started the songwriting process in Berlin with his colleagues, aiming to return to the Contest. He began searching for a singer in Luxembourg and got in touch with Tali, whom he knew through friends. The singer came from New York to record the song in Luxembourg, while the mixing was done in Berlin.

Later on, Tali informed Jimmy Martin that she had been selected to participate in the final of Luxembourg, but she revealed that she would not participate with the song he had written, which also included Luxembourgish lyrics.

Tali managed to bring Luxembourg to Eurovision 2024 for the first time since 1993 with the song “Fighter”.

Eurovision 2024: Which rehearsal has the most views on TikTok?

Two days ago, the first rehearsals for all 37 entries officially concluded, and today the second rehearsals are expected to be completed, with the Big 5 and the host country Sweden taking the stage at the Malmö Arena for the second time! This means that we are getting closer to the Eurovision week, with the Dress and Jury Rehearsals for the first semi-final starting on Monday.

However, as we know on TikTok, all the first rehearsals are uploaded. Apart from their performances, we’ll also get a sneak peek backstage before they take the stage for the first time in a video of about one minute.

One of the many features of TikTok is the ability to add songs to each user’s video creation. However, the TikTok algorithm is usually able to detect the song used in the video, assign it to the correct track, and then include it in the total number of videos where that sound has been used. Based on this capability, the most popular songs before rehearsals were from the Netherlands and Italy. Will they receive the same promotion as before?

The ranking with all the entries (in brackets will be the day of the rehearsal) based on the increasing number of views after one week from the start of the first rehearsals on TikTok is as follows:

  1. Netherlands: Joost (fourth day) – Europapa – 3.2 milion views
  2. Greece: Marina Satti (third day) – ZARI – 2.7 million views
  3. Poland: LUNA (first day)– The Tower –1.5 million views
  4. Switzerland: Nemo (third day) – The Code – 1.2 million views

Based on the views from the first semi-final, the following countries will qualify (in ascending order): Poland, Serbia, Ukraine, Croatia, Ireland, Azerbaijan, Cyprus (seventh), Lithuania, Luxembourg, and Australia.

Similarly, from the second semi-final, the following countries will qualify: Netherlands, Greece, Switzerland, Georgia, Israel, Belgium, Armenia, Albania, Latvia, and Austria.

TikTok has played a significant role in the success of Eurovision songs in recent years. For example, Duncan Laurence’s winning entry “Arcade” became a global hit a year after winning the competition when it was used in over a million videos on TikTok. One of the earliest TikTok successes from Eurovision was Getter Jaani’s “Rockefeller Street”, which went viral on the platform in 2018 and has since been used in over two million videos. Let’s not forget that Armenia’s entry in 2022 by Rosa Linn with “Snap” gained over a billion views on the platform. Finally, Norway’s entry last year gained significant worldwide publicity months before the competition week, where it secured fifth place.

Eurovision 2024: Luxembourg’s Second Rehearsal!

Last but not least to come up on stage for her second rehearsal is Tali representing Luxembourg with her song “Fighter“.

Who is Tali?

The 23-year-old Tali Golergant was born in Israel, where she spent the first five months of her life. After another four years in Chile and seven years in Argentina, the young musician went back to Luxembourg where she lived with her family in Limpertsberg for a total of ten years. In high school, she was a proud member of the school choir.

Meanwhile, the holder of a Luxembourgish passport has ventured across the Atlantic to New York City, specifically to the northern reaches of Manhattan. There, she cultivates her career as a musician. She also concurrently pursues her ambitions by studying Musical Theatre at Marymount Manhattan College.

In 2021, Tali released her first EP named ‘Lose You’. Last year, the Luxemburgish representative also featured in the song “Carry Me Home” with American singer-songwriter Max Bartos.

The song Tali will sing in Malmö is called “Fighter”, which is sung in French and English.

The Rehearsal

We have BONUS CUBES on stage, providing a frame for TALI and her five dancers. She’s in a black bodysuit, and all her dancers are in different red outfits. Sparkly, fun and energetic – a great way to wrap up the first Semi. Also like how their performance rotates to perform to each side of the audience – it really works with this stage configuration.

Eurovision 2024: Which rehearsal had the most views on the second day?

The rehearsals continued dynamically, with yesterday’s day hosting another eight countries at the Malmö Arena! Be sure to also read our article from yesterday regarding the views of the seven countries that completed their rehearsals on Saturday.

However, as we know on TikTok, all the first rehearsals are uploaded. Apart from their performances, we’ll also get a sneak peek backstage before they take the stage for the first time in a video of about one minute.

One of the many features of TikTok is the ability to add songs to each user’s video creation. However, the TikTok algorithm is usually able to detect the song used in the video, assign it to the correct track, and then include it in the total number of videos where that sound has been used. Based on this capability, the most popular songs before rehearsals were from the Netherlands and Italy. Will they receive the same promotion as before?

In less than 24 hours (April 29, 2024, time  CET), since the first clip from the rehearsals was uploaded, we have a indicative sample of which rehearsal was favored by the audience (here it should be noted that the videos were uploaded one after the other with a one and a half hour interval and there was a significant delay in their publication).

The rehearsals that had the most views are:

  1. Azerbaijan: FAHREE feat. Ilkin Dovlatov – Özünlə Apar – 185,5 thousand views
  2. Australia: Electric Fields – One Milkali (One Blood) – 142,3 thousand views
  3. Luxembourg: TALI – Fighter – 140 thousand views
  4. Iceland: Hera Bjork – Scared of Heights –  126,3 thousand views
  5. Portugal: iolanda – Grito – 112,8 thousand views
  6. Moldova: Natalia Barbu – In The Middle – 109 thousand views
  7. Finland: Windows95man – No Rules – 108,2 thousand views
  8. Slovenia: Raiven – Veronika – 107 thousand views

With this small sample, we can infer that:

  • None of the eight countries managed to come close to the countries’views that rehearsed the day before. Therefore, we can assume that the second half of the first semifinal doesn’t have the same impact as the first half.
  • The last four countries are very close to each other so it is very likely that some of them can recover in views in the following days.
  • Azerbaijan had the most views, beacause no one knew any information about the stage and also due to the country’s diaspora.

The top six countries with the most views from the two days are as follows:

  1. Poland: LUNA – The Tower – 1,1 thousand views
  2. Ukraine: alyona alyona & Jerry Heil – Teressa & Maria – 763 thousand views
  3. Serbia: Teya Dora – Ramonda – 749 thousand views
  4. Croatia: Baby Lasagna – Rim Tim Tagi Dim – 624 thousand views
  5. Ireland: Bambie Thug – Doomsday Blue – 278 thousand views
  6. Cyprus: Silia Kapsis – Liar – 243 thousand views

Finally for today, it’s Luxembourg! After winning Eurovision five times, they took a 31-year break, but we’re delighted to welcome them back to the contest in 2024. They are represented by TALI, who will be closing the first Semi-Final on 7th May – as well as being a singer, she’s also a vocal coach and theatre performer, so she’s no stranger to a big stage.

Fighter is a really catchy pop number sung in a mix of French and English.

Luxembourg: Commentators for RTL and spokesperson unveiled!

The lineup for Luxembourg’s RTL’s coverage of the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden, has been revealed.

The commentators for RTL will be Raoul Roos and Roger Saurfeld.

Who will the spokesperson be?

Many have been wondering who will be the person to hand out the first “twelve points” of the country following its thirty years of absence. Other than Désirée Nosbusch, there would be none. Désirée Nosbusch is no stranger to the Eurovision community, having hosted the contest the last time it was held in Luxembourg in 1984. She was one of the hosts of the Luxembourg Song Contest earlier this year. Given that she was only 19 years old in 1984, Désirée Nosbusch is actually one of the youngest hosts in the contest’s history.

So far, the following countries have revealed their spokesperson for Eurovision 2024 in Malmö:

  • Georgia – Sopho Khalvashi
  • Belgium – Livia Dushkoff
  • Switzerland – Jennifer Bosshard
  • Azerbaijan – Aisel 
  • Slovenia – Lorella Flego
  • Luxembourg – Désirée Nosbusch

Tali will represent Luxembourg with her song “Fighter” and will perform last in the first semi-final of May 7.

The official video clip of Luxembourg‘s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, in Malmö, Sweden, was released today.

A few hours after the release of the revamped version of the song (here), with which the Grand Duchy returns to the competition after 31 years, the official video clip of “Fighter” was released through the official account of the Luxembourgish representative, Tali, which you can watch below.

It’s been a long time since Tali, the representative of Luxembourg, stated that she wants her song “Fighter” to be revamped ahead of Eurovision 2024.

Earlier today, the revamped version of the song was released alongside the music video that will represent Luxembourg!

We remind you that Tali, won the Luxembourgish national final and will represent the country in Malmö after years abscence.
