Monaco: Will not return in Eurovision 2024!

The return of the Principality of Monaco to the competition has been a topic of discussion among fans of the Eurovision Song Contest following the launch of TVMonaco, the new Monegasque broadcaster, on September 1. It was confirmed a few days after TVMonaco began airing that the newly established network is a part of MMD (Monaco Media Difussion), an EBU member. As a result, TVMonaco is eligible to take part in Eurovision.

The rumors of Monaco’s potential comeback circulated online, leading some fans to conclude that 2024 will be the year of comebacks since Luxembourg will also make a comeback. Even well-known Monaco racing driver Charles Leclerc commented “I am ready” on an article about Monaco’s potential comeback.

2024 is not the time

Despite Monaco’s eligibility and enthusiasm and according to ESCToday, the Monegasque broadcaster has ruled out a return in Eurovision 2024.

No official explanation is provided, although the information given to Monaco-Matin refers to the short timeframe. The topic of taking part in Eurovision has not been addressed during those two weeks of operation and considering that today, September 15, is the deadline for submitting applications for the 2024 contest, the schedule was indeed tight.

Although the Principality of Monaco won’t compete in Eurovision 2024, a comeback in the following years is not necessarily ruled out.
