Wales: Campaign begins for Eurovision Participation!

Campaign for Walesparticipation in the Eurovision Song Contest begins!

With just one week to go until the grand final of this year’s contest, a campaign is underway for Wales to enter the Eurovision Song Contest!

This campaign has been undertaken by the record label Coco & Cwtsh which includes Sara Davies, winner of the Can i Gymru (Song for Wales) song contest, who also released her new song ‘Anfonaf Angel’ (I send an Angel).

Sara Davies will perform her new song live on the day of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest grand final. The Chief Executive of Coco & Cwtsh CEO Ffion Gruffudd commented:

“Coco & Cwtsh strongly believe that we as a nation have something special to offer this wonderful competition and that we shouldn’t be restrictedfrom having a voice on this important stage because of broadcasting technicalities.”

“The aim is to build on this next year and maybe open it out into an actual competition where artists and musicians can enter their songs before deciding on what the Welsh entry would be and doing this year on year, along with an event, until we get to compete in the Eurovision as a nation in our own right.”

Wales could only compete if the BBC chose not to enter the competition on behalf of the UK. S4C, the Welsh broadcaster, is currently a full member of the European Broadcasting Union through its parent organisation.

Have thought for long time, UK should enter a Welsh language group. Loads of great ones around. If Wales enter as nation, should be in Welsh language. Eurovision has become too Aglicised with even the French singing in English on at least one occasion.
