Italy: Historic Success for the Prima Serata of Sanremo 2025
Despite initial skepticism from some viewers, the Prima Serata of Sanremo 2025 concluded with great success. Carlo Conti started strong in his return as host and artistic director of the festival, as the first night of Sanremo 2025 attracted 2 million more viewers than last year.
Carlo Conti Vs. Amadeus: Score 1
12,600,000 viewers watched the opening night of the 75th Sanremo Festival, marking an increase of 2 million compared to last year’s premiere! The audience share reached 65.3%.
The first part (until 00:30) was watched by 16.2 million viewers, while the rest of the show averaged 8.3 million.
The most-watched moment of the night was Giorgia’s performance, drawing 17,331,000 viewers. Giorgia, who had briefly lost her top spot in the betting odds, regained it after the night ended.
It was an enjoyable evening that felt much faster-paced than the usual Sanremo rhythm. Carlo Conti kept his promise, as the night even ended 20 minutes early instead of the usual half-hour or longer delay.
The stage setup worked well, the graphics looked great, and the lighting and camerawork were much improved compared to previous years. Some camera shots even resembled those used in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Overall, online feedback was positive regarding Carlo Conti’s approach compared to Amadeus’. The return to the classic identity of Sanremo, featuring many traditional Italian ballads and strong vocal performances, was also well received—especially by the festival’s long-time audience.

Highlights of the Prima Serata
The standout artists of the first night, now leading the betting odds, are Giorgia and Simone Cristicchi. Both have previously won the festival and could potentially claim their second Golden Lion trophy on Saturday.
Olly, who was the betting favorite before the first night, has now dropped to third place after failing to make the top five in last night’s rankings.
Following closely behind is Achille Lauro, who seems poised for a strong result this year. Meanwhile, Fedez has climbed to fifth place, as his song appears to be a hit with the Italian audience.
We can’t overlook the stunning female presences of the evening—at times, it felt like a beauty contest! The performances of Elodie and Clara were simply breathtaking.
One song that we predict will become a major hit is the entry by Kolors, which references Mykonos in its lyrics—setting up a musical rendezvous on the island of the winds.
Tonight: The Seconda Serata
The festival continues tonight with the second evening. Fifteen of the 29 contestants will perform their songs again, with voting from both the television audience and the radio jury. At the end of the night, the top five in the rankings will be announced in random order.
