Luxembourg: Alex Panayi will be the president of the jury of the country’s national final for Eurovision 2024!

Fame Story, may not be the method of selecting the Cypriot singer, but we do learn some surprising and pleasant things through its Live Stream from STAR TV.

To be exact, Alex Panayi, who is one of the music teachers of the academy, revealed that he will be the president of the jury panel of Luxembourg’s national final for Eurovision 2024, “Luxembourg Decides”.

Alex Panayi, besides having represented his country two time in the Eurovision Song Contest (1995 and 2000), hw is now one of thw most important musicians in Greece and Cyprus, vocal coach, composer, lyricist, music producer, as well as a singer!

He has also been to Eurovision many times, as a vocal coach for the different delegations, but he has also been a juror for a lot of national finals, throughout Europe.

It would not be considered an exaggeration if we said that in everything that he dealt with in the music industry in our country (and of course in Cyprus) there is nothing that he has not attempted or that his opinion and experience has not been trusted.

Let’s remember his song for Eurovision 1995, “Sti Fotia”, which ended up in 9th place:

We wish Alex Panayi the best in his new duties, which we are sure he will handle successfully!

Luxembourg: The preselection’s final line-up will be decided by an international expert jury!

Luxembourg’s return to Eurovision after thirty years of absence is expected to be epic. A national selection will be held in order to choose the next Luxembourgish act and the preparations are on fire. The preselection was open to

  • either singers who already had a maximum of three songs to submit
  • or singers who did not have a song but they would like to represent Luxembourg in Eurovision and would therefore be contacted via RTL with a team of songwriters.

Following the closing of the submission window for the first category and the finish of the “castings” stage for the second category, RTL underwent an evaluation process, coming down to a shortlist of around 70 songs and 50 artists.

Now, it is up to an international jury to decide the final line-up.

The international jury

The choice of an international jury was made in order to achieve the greatest possible neutrality in a small country as Luxembourg. Hence, this jury consists of the following five members, strongly associated with Eurovision:

Christer Björkmann, who is a Swedish producer and TV host as well as a former Eurovision participant(Sweden 1992). Björkmann has also served as a Head of Delegation for Sweden, has produced the 2013 and 2016 editions of Eurovision Song Contest held in Sweden and the only and only to date American Song Contest.

Jan Bors, who has served as a Head of Delegation for Czechia.

Cesár Sampson, who has represented Austria in the 2018 edition of Εurovision and was crowned as the jury winner. Sampson will also play an active role in the Czech preselection this year, serving as an artistic director and the presenter of the national final.

Alex Panayi, who is also considered as a Eurovision expertise. Panayi has represented Cyprus in Eurovision on two occasions, in 1995 and 2000. In recent years, he has served as a vocal coach for several Eurovision participants and was also the backing vocalist of the 2005 winner, Helena Paparizou.

Tali Eshkoli, which an Israeli television producer. Eshkoli has been the producer of the 2019 edition of Eurovision, has also contributed to the 2021 edition of the Miss Universe competition held in Israel and has served as a jury member in various Eurovision preselections.

What’s next for the Luxembourgish preselection?

The names of the finalists who have managed to convince the jury will be revealed at the beginning of December.

The Luxembourgish national final will take place on January 27, 2024 in a major live show broadcast on RTL Télé. Viewers will be able to vote for the person they want to see represent Luxembourg at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö.

The former Eurovision powerhouse will return to the contest after thirty years of absence. During its almost fourty years participation, Luxembourg was crowned as the winner five times in total.

Several people who work closely with Melodifestivalen‘s editorial staff have speculated about Danny‘s participation, but now he is said to have finally accepted. Saucedo is said to have collaborated together with Michel Zitron, 42, who has previously been involved in Swedish House Mafia‘s “Don’t you worry child” and “Save the world” and worked with both Avicii and Alesso. Jamala on the Russian government’s wanted list!

Jamala, who won the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest for Ukraine and is of Tatar heritage, was discovered to be on the Russian government’s wanted list earlier today, according to reports from the RIA and TASS news agencies.

More precisely, the singer is being prosecuted for allegedly disparaging Moscow’s armed forces, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Jamala is renowned for her efforts to enlighten and raise the public’s awareness of the situation in Ukraine following the Russian invasion. She has publicly criticized the Russian regime on multiple occasions in this regard, which infuriated Moscow and brought about this situation.

Her Eurovision entry was also politically fraught as it discussed the 1944 expulsion and ethnic cleansing of the Crimean Tatars by Stalin’s Soviet authority. She stated that the song was also referencing the 2014 Russian invasion of Crimea in addition to this historical occurrence.

Using an emoji to convey her displeasure, Jamala, who is now touring Australia to raise funds for the bolstering of the Ukrainian army, responded to the news through an instagram story:

Israel: HaKokhav HaBa for Eurovision 2024 starts tonight!

Three weeks after its scheduled start on October 31, the HaKokhav HaBa (Rising Star) talent show, which will determine Israel’s representative in the 68th Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Malmö, Sweden, next May, begins tonight.

The armed conflict between Israel and Hamas has led to the so far delayed start of the talent show, with Keshet 12′s makers deciding not to air HaKokhav HaBa until now following the outcry from the Israeli media and the Israeli people for the show’s scheduled premiere at the end of October.

In fact, the title of HaKokhav HaBa is being changed and will now be called The Next Star – Special Edition 2023. However, the name change does not change anything regarding Israel’s participation in Eurovision 2024, as the winner of The Next Star will be the one who will receive the anointment to represent Israel in Malmö.

The presenters of the show will be Assi Azar and Rotem Sela who have been in this position since 2014. The jury members will be Shiri Maimon, Itay Levy, Assaf Amdorsky, Ran Dankar and Keren Pels while Eden Hasson is a new addition.

Through HaKokhav HaBa, Israel managed to qualify for the final of the beloved contest every year from 2015 to 2020, and in 2018 Netta was also the winner of Eurovision with the song “Toy“.

This year Israel at Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool was represented by the explosive Noa Kirel and her song “Unicorn” which gave the Middle Eastern country third place in the Grand Final, scoring 362 points.

Bulgaria: Is Victoria coming back in Eurovision 2024?

The dicsussion and the “thriller” regarding the final list of the participating countries at the 68th Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden is well maintained and even fed back by the scenarios regarding the return of Bulgaria to the contest after one year hiatus. Just yesterday we informed you through our article (here) about the potential return of this country of the Balkan Peninsula with Poli Genova for a third time (?).

A few hours later a post on X by Victoria herslef rocked the boat once again regarding the possible Bulgarian participation/return, as she wrote that ” a little surprise is coming next week!! xoxo”

Of course, such a post could not have gone unnoticed by the watchful eye of Eurofans, especially when Bulgaria’s official Eurovision account shares the relevant post. In addition, this event could be directly connected to the interview that Victoria gave to Euronews Bulgaria where she stated that she wants to perform again on the Eurovision stage.

While waiting for the official announcements about the list of competing countries let’s remember again Victoria’s two entries for Bulgaria in the 2020 and 2021 contests. In 2020 she would perform the song Tears Getting Sober which was also a favorite for the first prize, however the competition canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The following year he competed in Rotterdam with the track Growing Up is Getting Old finishing in 11th place of the Grand Final with 170 points.
