Eurovision 2024: Käärijä will appear during the Second Semi-Final!

Eurovision 2024 turns out to be an all-star show. The Swedes have prepared an all-star participants’ line-up, which during the First Semi-Final included Eleni Foureira, Chanel, Eric Saade as well as the King of Eurovision, Johnny Logan.

However, the surprises do not stop here and it was officially announced that Käärijä, last year’s runner-up, will take the Eurovision stage once again during the Second Semi-Final on May 9.

Who else will be joining Käärijä in the Second Semi-Final?

With Helena Paparizou (Greece 2005), Sertab Erener (Turkey 2003), and Charlotte Perrelli (Sweden 1999, 2008), the all-star lineup continues. Live performances by all three of them are scheduled for the Second Semi-Final on, as promised by the organizers, World’s Biggest Sing-Along.

Eurovision 2024: Loreen and Johnny Logan’s duet that did not happen!

The First Semi-Final of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest wrapped up last night and without doubt, the opening and interval acts were impressive. Of course, “Mr Eurovision” himself, Johnny Logan, the only male double winner, could not be absent. He performed an orchestral version of Loreen’s Euphoria, the only female double winner.

However, plans were somewhat different. What was set out to be done was that, the two winners would take the stage of the First Semi-Final together, as a duet “Queen and King of Eurovision”. But, just a few weeks before the show, inside information say that Loreen bowed out of the idea, leaving Johnny Logan to perform alone on stage.

Despite this information, Loreen’s manager Tony Beard denies the claims and mentions that:

“Loreen never said that she would sing a duet with Johnny Logan. She has totally focused on the performance she is preparing for Saturday’s Grand Final, something we had made clear to SVT since the beginning. Anything else is false information.

We are aware of the fact that the public would like to see a duet by Loreen and Johnny Logan, but the former’s act for Saturday has been a priority. It will not be an ordinary performance.”

We have aleady informed you about Loreen’s act on Saturday on a previous article:

On the other hand, Ebba Adielsson, executive producer of Eurovision on SVT pinpoints:

“During this year, we have come up with many ideas regarding the opening and the interval acts. Others have been supported, others have been turned down. Loreen is going to appear on the Grand Final on Saturday and we intend to surprise the media that will witness her rehearsal.”

Would you like to have seen this duet on the Eurovision stage? Tell us in the comments!

EBU: “We regret that Eric Saade chose to compromise the non-political nature of the event!”

During the first semi final of Eurovision 2024, we enjoyed Eleni Foureira, Eric Saade and Chanel as the opening act of the show. Eric Saade appeared with a Palestinian headscarf tied to his arm during his performance of “Popular”.

Some moments before, EBU officially responded to Euromix about Eric Saade.

“The Eurovision Song Contest is a live TV show. All performers are made aware of the rules of the Contest, and “we regret that Eric Saade chose to compromise the non-political nature of the event.”

We are happy to discuss this with you after the live broadcast if needed.

Eric Saade is very active on social media, even advocating in previous years for Israel to be banned from the competition, which of course didn’t happen.

Israel: What percentage of Europeans believe that the country should not participate at Eurovision 2024?

Truth be told, there is a great number of Europeans who firmly believe that Israel should not take part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, mainly because of their geographical position.

However, the situation in Gaza remains fraught and this has made a plethora of people call for Israel’s excusion from this year’s Contest.

Eurotrack recently conducted a survey asking respondents if Israel should be allowed to participate at Eurovision this year. The exctracted result showcased that many stand by Israel’s exclusion for geographical reasons and not political. What is also interesting is that, among those who intend to watch the show, the percentage of the viewers who claim that Israel should not participate, is significantly smaller compared to the general population.

In each of the seven countries that were taken into account for the survey, 40-59% support that Israel should be banned from entering the Contest, whereas 23-37% claim the opposite.

Despite this, as it was abovementioned, the viewers who are going to watch the show this year present a higher possibility of considering Israel’s participation and being more amenable towards it. Especially the majority of German viewers believe in Israel remaining as a participating country.

Why do Europeans want to see Israel banned from Eurovision?

Of course, Israel is at the center of current affairs with the conflict in Gaza still in progress, and this matter stands as the principal factor for many people across Europe to wish upon the country’s exclusion from the Contest. Is that what motivates the public opinion though?

Yes, to a certain extent. When the respondents of Eurotrack’s survey were asked the reason behind their stance to ban Israel from Eurovision, somewhat between 38% and 65% in each country base their answers on the Middle East conflict. Among those who truly are planning to watch the Contest and think that Israel must be excluded, this argument is supported by 47-69%.

Despite this data, it is still common for people to believe that Israel should not be a part of Eurovision because of where it i geographically located.

In reality, according to the survey, the percentage of people who want Israel to be excluded solely because of the tense in Gaza is around 21-36% and when it comes to Eurovision viewers, 12-20%.

With great polarisation around the matter, we shall see how these percentages will be translated on Israel’s votes in the Contest, especially the televote.

Eurovision 2024: Martin Österdahl discusses the major changes to the contest!

The Executive Supervisor of the EBU, Martin Österdahl, spoke about all the recent changes introduced to the contest over the past two years.

In an interview with Billboard, Martin Österdahl, revealed the idea behind the changes introduced in this year’s edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, especially regarding the voting process.

Österdahl began by explaining the decision to have the Big 5 and the host country perform normally during the semi-finals.”

We have felt from time to time that the Big Five perhaps had a disadvantage. We’ve looked at ways to correct that. The Big Five have been doing much better recently, but still we feel the time is right to make this change now.

According to Österdahl, the voting system is quite outdated, involving SMS, telephone voting, and a two-hour wait for viewers to cast their votes for their favorites.

If you see something that you like, you can cast your vote, which is something that is more in line with the behavior of young people today, who are used to interacting straightaway with the shows.

This leads us to another major change introduced last year – the Rest of the World voting. This type of voting was introduced for the first time during the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Warsaw, during the Covid-19 pandemic when delegations couldn’t attend the event in person. When we saw the online voting come in, it was a real eye-opener for me, because there were 12 participating countries as opposed to 40 in Eurovision and it’s a kid show.

We saw the votes coming in from 180 countries around the world on this European kids’ show. It was amazing, so I thought, “We need to tap into this.” My expectations are high when it comes to the engagement here.

The Rest of the World voting will be adjusted this year as well, with a dedicated voting window open 24 hours before the live shows. This will give fans around the world the opportunity to vote for their favorites independently.
