Norway: Is TIX the astronaut behind Subwoolfer?

A few hours before the start of the first semi-final, the astronaut DJ who will represent Norway at Eurovision 2022 with Subwoolfer seems to have been revealed. TIX who represented Norway in last year’s Eurovision Song Contest with “Fallen Angel” seems to be the DJ accompanying Subwoolfer!

This is what Eurovision Norway’s journalist, Morten Westgaard said when he learned the DJ’s identity:

Insane! I’d never imagine that. There are probably a lot of people who are curious about who is behind Subwoolfer, but now we know that the DJ Astronaut is Andreas Haukeland, aka Tix.

Subwoolfer will compete in the 16th place of the first semi-final with “Give That Wolf A Banana“, you can listen to their entry here:

Iceland: Systur faced technical difficulties during the Jury Rehearsal!

The Icelandic band Systur has revealed that they faced  technical problems during yesterday’s Jury Semi Final One.

Systur described that a failure occured in the sound system which was “upsetting” to them as they did not have such problems during previous rehearsals.

The failure was apparently not detected by the juries but brought Systur out of balance as they were unable to hear each other on stage during their performance. However, they feel that the rehearsal went “incredibly well despite the failure”.

Systur will compete tonigh on the first semi-final  for a ticket for the Final, with the song “Með hækkandi sól”:

Sweden: We could host Eurovision if Ukraine wins!

Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra are the top favourites for the victory in the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday.
But if the war continues, it could be difficult for Kiev or any other cities in the country to held the competition next year. Therefore, Stockholm is now offered as the host city, with the Globe, Avicii Arena, as a possible arena for another Eurovision.

The Finance Mayor’s Council has contacted the Ukrainian ambassador

Stockholm, which is twinned with Kiev, has already offered the Ukrainian capital to help arrange sporting events that can no longer be held in Kiev.

Anna König Jerlmyr, Stockholm’s Finance Mayor, reported:

“This is a way to continue to show our support. We are used to hosting Eurovision and we last did it in 2016. Feeling that this experience was successful, we are happy to volunteer,”

Eurovision 2022: The Family Show of the 1st Semifinal! (Updated)

Big day tonight in Turin with the 1st Semifinal taking place, here at the PalaOlimpico. Together we will comment on the family show that takes place every year before a TV show and is addressed, as the title says, to families. Αll entries will once again perform their song, with the show being used more as a warm-up, a final rehearsal for minor corrections before the TV show, tonight!

We are at the press center and will bring you live everything that happens here in real time. We remind you that the jury rehearsal took place yesterday, with 50% of the total score having already been judged. Stay tuned to EurovisionFun for the family show.

The article is updated:

The semifinal begins with a video while, Leo the drone, arrives at the Pala Olimpico after touring in Turin. Leo comes on to the stage. We see a toy with lights and leds, while listening to Maneskin’s Zitti e Buoni.

Time to welcome our three presenters on stage Laura PausiniAlessandro Cattelan and Mika! Mika is casual dressed as it’s a rehearsal. Before the competing part begins, the hosts of the show describe the voting process. The Eurovision Song Contest – Family Show Edition has begun!

Albania

A similar appearance from Ronela without particular problems. She wears the pink dress she had in the previous rehearsals, while the choreography does not have any changes. Minor vocal problems that are corrected immediately. A rehearsal without any particular problems for Albania.

Latvia

City Zeni give a colorful image to the arena, with their costumes, the lighting and of course with the energy they bring. Everything looks ready for Latvia for today’s semifinal. We hope no pants are torn again.

Lithuania

Monica on stage alone as we are used to, while in many shots we see her double on the screen. Problems with the Italian scene may cost in Lithuania. If she manages to qualify, the qualification is due to Monica herself and her talent.

Switzerland

Marius looks comfortable on stage, low lights here, while he even attempting some successful different vocals. Sacha Jean-Baptiste’s stamp is obvious in the choreography performed by Marius. Switzerland is also claiming a ticket for Saturday’s final.

Slovenia

The young band brings disco sounds to the stage and this time everyone seems to enjoy it more than ever! Admittedly, the song does not have much hope for qualification but the happiest mood of the band certainly raises ours too. They took our LastPizzaSlice!

Ukraine

The most known participation of this year’s competition is of course the Ukrainian one.  Kalush Orchestra  are having fun participating with the climax of the song creating a moving atmosphere in the arena. Loud applause from all those present, a dynamic support of the participation is expected in the evening.

Bulgaria

Like yesterday, the Bulgarian band gives an excellent performance with the lead singer singer Ronnie Romero being impeccable in his vocals. Beautiful direction, fires and golden lighting culminate in the song and Bulgaria demands the qualification. Will they take it?

The Netherlands

S10 comfortable now on stage performs a very beautiful song and she is gorgeous. The direction is based on low lighting and a base where s10 stands. No problems at all, they can already  think about Saturday’s final!

Moldova

And yet “Zdob şi Zdub & Advahov Brothers” create a very interesting combination of folklore rock and roll. The singer’s sunglasses make you laugh and sing with them throughout the song. For many, Moldova had no hope of qualifying, but now the route Chisinau – Bucharest – Final is possible!

Portugal

A small delay before the start of the participation, we do not know at the moment if it was a rehearsal of the presenters for such an occasion. Maro, however, is a calm force in the competition. The public is asked to turn on the flashlights of their mobile phones to create a “Saudade” feeling.

Croatia

Another sweet presence this year is that of Croatia. Mia seems to have overcome the technical problems of the first rehearsals. We see a choreography on the stage that tells the story of Mia. Croatian lyrics sounds beautiful, to be honest. Is it enough, though, to get to the final?

Denmark

Colorful appearance from Denmark as well. The band performs the song without any problem. The direction is based on the quick alternation of lighting giving a rock feeling. Τhe girls enjoy it and for many it is a participation that also has its own chances of qualifying. We’ll see!

Austria

Αustria is a roller coaster this year. The duo is in a ring of light, red and white lighting everywhere.  A very strong finish for the Mia and Lum!x with pyros. It is worth rewarding the effort of Pia in the vocals which are improving. While a popular participation in the beginning, Austria needs to perform well tonight.

Iceland

You feel like you are being transported to the places of Iceland but instead of listening to “Ja Ja Ding Dong”, the three girls sing melodic. The shots work flawlessly and the golden lighting dominates. Iceland states present!

Greece

Dreamy appearance from Greece, with Amanda to communicate the drama to the viewers . The change of plans from yesterday remains but there was the spotlight at the start, which due to a mistake of the hosts was not activated yesterday. Amanda is impeccably vocal, even better than yesterday and looks ready for tonight’s show. Greece is aiming high this year!

Norway

The wolves steal the show and their choreography keeps you going until the end. No vocal issues, they never had. Great staging, the fireworks are just the icing on the cake for a song that we will see on Saturday for sure!

Armenia

The Semifinal closes with Rosa Linn in her room slowly pulling of the post-it notes in the walls and the messages appear. In the end, she throws the wall and she is in front of the audience to perform the song very nicely. And with a snap, the competitive part of the Semifinal ends.

Benny Benassi and Sophie & The Giants (Interval Act)

“The Dance of Beauty” will be another interval act for this semi final, when Pala Olimpico will be trasnformed into a giant disco by Dardust, Benny Benassi and Sophie & The Giants, who complete the line-up of interval act artists.

Starting of with a DJ set by Benni Benassi, global-megastar DJ, but even his act is affected by the mechanical difficulties of the stage! But who can forget “Satisfaction“, or who hasn’t ever danced to that sick beat? Lots of dancers on stage and then Sophie and the Giants take over the stage and duo with Benni performing their single “Golden Nights“!

After the end of the first interval act, the hosts come back on stage and pay tribute to Raffaella Carrà by playing and singing along to the song “Fiesta“, who sadly died last year on July 5th.

Then we have another recap of all the competing songs and their respective voting numbers, after Benny Benassi and Sophie & The Giants leave the stage!

Counting down towards the end of the voting window, the three hosts of the show ask the public to “stop voting now”, giving way to Diodato!

Diodato (Interval Act)

It is worth noting that finally Diodato will get his chance to sing the 2020 Italian entry “Fai Rumore”, in his home country, two years after he was selected as the Italian representative for the 65th cancelled Eurovision Song Contest. “The Dance of Beauty” will be another interval act for this semi final, when Pala Olimpico will be trasnformed into a giant disco by Dardust, Benny Benassi and Sophie & The Giants, who complete the line-up of interval act artists.

He appears on stage playing the piano, singing to this sentimental ballad, dancers appear behind his back while he sings at the piano. After the first chorus of the song, he gets up and then we see him going around dancers that stand still on stage. They start moving to contemporary dance moves, as soon as Diodato gets into the second chorus of the song! Goosebumps!

Plus, now the sun does move! Impressive! Sad we can’t see that during the several performances of each country!

Germany: Felicia Lu Dropped From German Eurovision Jury

Felicia Lu has been removed from the German jury having previously shared her favourites songs of this year’s competition.

Eurovision.de has released a statement explaining why Felicia Lu, the singer who competed in the German selections in 2017 and 2022,  has been removed from the German jury for the Eurovision Song Contest 2022:

Felicia Lu published her favorites from this year’s competition back in March. However, EBU rules state that national jury members are not allowed to nominate their favourites. Felicia Lu signed the corresponding agreement in April. Therefore, the NDR, in consultation with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), feels compelled to exclude her from the jury. NDR will announce the replacement shortly.

The four other jurors are:

  • Michelle – Represented Germany in 2001 with “Wer Liebe Leben” where she finished 8th
  • Max Giesinger – Singer-songwriter who has released four studio albums, he was also a juror for Germany in 2018
  • Tokunbo – Award-winning singer-songwriter who has released seventeen studio albums
  • Christian Brost – Head of Music at hr3 radio

Eurovision 2022: Jury Show of the First Semi-Final!

One day before the actual shows the so-called Jury Show happens which isn’t visible to the usual audience (only to those who received press accreditation and to the experts). The Jury Show of the First Semi-Final took place today. Professional jurors have already ranked all 17 acts of today’s show.

Albania

Very sensual and sexual performance with a good camerawork. Ronela is very charismatic and it looked like a worthy opener. The choreography was fierce. Overall, it was a great performance. Let’s see whether juries liked it or not.

Latvia

Amazing and very energetic performance from Citi Zeni. The camerawork is on point and vocally it was perfect. Is it a song that would be appreciated by juries? No clue.

Lithuania

Elegant, minimalistic but impactful performance from Monika Liu. Stunned by this.

Switzerland

Visually – gorgeous, vocally – I wouldn’t really say.

Slovenia

It was fun, although the soloist got lost in the light! Vocally excellent, nothing else to add.

Ukraine

Timofiy improved a LOT. Energetic, impactful and mesmerising performance from Kalush Orchestra. One of the bests, for sure.

A break before Bulgaria

Bulgaria

This staging is exactly what a rock song needs. One of the best vocals.

Netherlands

Very minimalistic and simple staging. S10 was nervous, hopefully she’ll be better for the actual show.

Moldova

It’s indeed fun. Personally enjoyed this one a lot. The audience did it too.

Portugal

Very emotional and atmospheric. The staging is perfection.

Croatia

Such a cute performance from Mia! Amazing camerawork and excellent vocals. Croatian was added to the song (she sung the last chorus in Croatian completely).

Denmark

Great performance, nothing else to say.

There’s a break after Denmark. We see some from Sunday’s Turquoise Carpet.

Austria

Vocally not really great, but it has a very effective staging!

Iceland

Atmospheric performance and a very easy song to listen to. Impressive!

Greece

Massive winner vibes there…

Norway

Such an astounding performance from the wolves from Norway! Enjoyed it a lot.

Armenia

Flawless vocals and fascinating staging.

We see the recap of all 17 songs once all artists finished performing.

Dardust is on the stage playing a drum. Sophie and the giants are on the stage. Tons of pyro as we see Daniel Benassi at the back of the stage at a DJ booth.

A tribute to Raffaella Carra. Laura talks about her and then Fiesta is played!

Afterwards the second recap is on!

Diodato performs his ESC 2020 song – Fai Rumore. In the dark, he sits and plays at his piano and sings. A choir softly sings along in the chorus. Diodato starts off behind the stage and is on the front side with lots of people dancing around him on stage in smoke. Perfection.

Alessandro chats with the JESC 2021 winner – with Maléna. We see a small clip of her JESC victory and of her song. Promo clip for Yerevan is shown as well right after the clip.

Mika has a conversation with Alvan & Ahez and Mahmood&Blanco.

France

In the beginning it was very shaky, but then everything went very well. Energetic, impressive and outstanding performance from France! WOW!

Italy

Vocally they’ve improved a lot since the second rehearsal. They don’t engage with camera which makes it at some point better. Brilliant performance!

The announcement of the qualifiers right after Italy’s performance!

The qualifiers of the Jury Show were:

  • Latvia
  • Portugal
  • Lithuania
  • Norway
  • Denmark
  • Greece
  • Armenia
  • Switzerland
  • Austria
  • Netherlands

P.S these are not the real results.

The actual show will be broadcasted tomorrow.

Australia: Sheldon Riley’s interview to EurovisionFun!

After the second rehearsal, Sheldon Riley  spoke exclusively to EurovisionFun.

Australia’s representative for Eurovision 2022. Talking about his rehearsals, Sheldon said that it is a dream coming true and that everything is bigger and better than he expected.

He said that his rehearsals are going really well, but he is a perfectionist and he wants everything to be perfect so he tries even more and he will make some small changes for the second semi-final so that everything will be as it should.

As for the masks that he wears during his performances, he said that he likes wearing them because they hide some things that he is insecure about, but on the same time there is nothing better than taking them off.

You can watch the entire interview of Sheldon Riley in the video below:
