Eurovision 2022: The programme of this year’s Eurovision Village!

The Eurovision Village will open its gates between Saturday 7 May and Saturday 14 May in the stunning Parco del Valentino.

Free and open to everybody, the Eurovision Village has been designed to offer something for everyone – from young people and families, to the hardened Eurovision veterans, and all those wanting to experience the atmosphere of the fabulous international event that Turin is preparing to host.

Every day from 17:00 CEST, the stage will be filled with a selection of over 200 different star turns, sponsors and speakers.

Rosanna Purchia, Deputy Mayor for Culture, had this to say:

‘Turin is a city full of cultural activities and events. The Eurovision Village celebrates music while respecting the environment. We want to promote the strong artistic vocation of the city to liven up and turn the lights on our territory, in the name of peace. The voice of the youth will be the symbol of hope in our future.’

Domenico Carretta, Deputy Mayor for Big Events, added:

‘An occasion to live once again the atmosphere of the Olympic Games of 2006’ – emphasises Domenico Carretta, Deputy Mayor for Big Events. The Eurovillage will be the heart of the Eurovision days with events open to all citizens, in the scenery of the Parco del Valentino, a large space suitable to all the requirements of the Village, including security measures.’

From rock to hip-hop, world music to electro, the live area will host over 40 hours of concerts, debates and shows.

Following the example of Lisbon in 2018 and Tel Aviv in 2019, the Eurovision Village in Turin will develop a thematic daily programme.

  • The opening day, on Saturday 7 May, is in the name of peace. A lineup of concerts and testimonies against war will host emerging artists sharing the stage with great performers such as the Turin techno-jazz trio Tun and the Australian musician Dub FX.
  • Sunday 8 May is dedicated to civil rights and to the LGBTQ+ community, with Karma B, Elasi and Plastica, Cristina D’Avena feat. Gem Boy. Over six hours of concerts with artists from all over Italy.
  • Monday 9 May is Europe Day, the date that marks the anniversary of the declaration that Robert Schuman addressed in 1950 to the European countries to build new and peaceful relations after the two world wars. This year ‘Europe for Peace’ will be the occasion to think over the present role of the united Europe in solidarity with the Ukrainian people. The event will feature a rich schedule of performances (among which Melancholia + Little Pieces of Marmelade, Legno and Negrita) and speeches by Ukrainian journalists, the Vice President of the European Parliament Pina Picierno, and the European Commissioner for Equality Helena Dalli. The initiative is organised in collaboration with the Representative Office of the European Commission in Milan, the Italian Office of the European Parliament and the Red Cross.
  • Wednesday 11 May is ‘Torino Calling’ day. A real ‘call to the arts’ for Turin’s artistic community. Bandakadabra will be the backing band, playing with an exceptional hip-hop crew, made up of the best young local rappers and the extraordinary Motel Connection. The involvement of Turin artists, alongside national and international stars, will be one of the distinctive features of the Eurovision Village programme.
  • Friday 13 May is dedicated to World Music. Once again a Turin band, The Sweet Life Society, will play with artists like Roy Paci, Davide Shorty and many others.

Every day from 17:00 to 20:30 CEST local artists and projects will take to the stage, such as Pagella Non Solo Rock.

Large screens will be set up in the park on Tuesday 10 May, Thursday 12 May and Saturday 14 May, allowing visitors to watch the live broadcast of the Semi-Finals and the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest.

The Eurovision Village 2022 is implemented by the Fondazione per la Cultura Torino, instrumental entity of the City of Turin, and a complete programme of events will be presented at the end of April.

Italy: Diodato confirmed as interval act in the First Semi-Final!

Diodato will finally get to perform on the Eurovision Song Contest stage as the singer has been confirmed as a special interval act in the First Semi-Final, two years after he was picked as the Italian participant for the cancelled 65th edition.

Diodato won the 70th Sanremo Festival back in 2020 with the song Fai Rumore – which topped the Italian charts and looked set to captivate an international audience at the Contest scheduled for Rotterdam.

However, as we all know, the COVID-19 pandemic changed everybody’s plans and prevented the artist from Aosta representing his home country, Italy, in the Netherlands.

However, in Italy, Fai Rumore became one of the anthems of lock-down, and in May of that year, during the Eurovision Song Contest celebration Europe Shine a Light, Diodato performed his entry at an empty Arena di Verona.

The following year, Diodato did not enter Sanremo, which was eventually won by future Eurovision champions Måneskin.

In Turin, the singer’s interval performance is hoped to symbolise a return towards normal life after two years of restrictions and social distancing, and he will finally have the chance to perform on the Eurovision stage and interact with the audience, having been denied this special opportunity following the extraordinary events of 2020.
