Iceland: Söngvakeppnin 2022 is rescheduled!

The newly imposed restrictions due to the rapidly spreading SARS-COV2, in several countries throughout the globe, have led to many events either getting cancelled or postponed.

This is exactly what has happened to Söngvakeppnin 2022, the national selection process of Iceland for Eurovision 2022.

In specific, the songs were initially planned to be released on January the 29th, the two Semi-Finals to be held on 19 and 26 of February, respectively and the Final to be held on March the 5th.

The decision

However, RUV, the public broadcaster of the country, has taken into account the decision of the health national authorities to actually postpone all the events held in the Country, consequently, Söngvakeppnin 2022 will be postponed as well, for a whole week.

The thoughts behind the rescheduling

The national final got postponed, aiming for it to be implemented in the most optimal way, also hoping to run this large-scale show at full capacity, by ensuring the safety of contestants, spectators and employees at the same time.

Iceland’s head of delegation, Rúnar Freyr Gíslason, said it would be better to postpone the national final even further, in order to increase the chances of it being held without any restrictions.

Unfortunately, this cannot be done, as the deadline for submitting Eurovision entries is set for March the 13th.

The detailed schedule of  Söngvakeppnin 2022 will be the following:

  • 5th of February – Announcement of artists and release of competing songs of Söngvakeppnin 2022
  • 26th of February – First Semi-Final
  • 5th of March – Second Semi-Final
  • 11th of March – Family Show (Jury Rehearsal)
  • 12th of March – Grand Final

10 songs will compete at Söngvakeppnin 2022, while the artists, composers and songs will be revealed at the RUV show called Lögin í Söngvakeppninn.

The songs have already been recorded and all the artists have already started rehearsing for their semi finals. The pre-sale of the tickets for the shows will also be announced soon.

Artists from Iceland have shown major interest in submitting their proposals for the Icelandic Eurovision 2022 entry, leading to a total of 160 song submissions, breaking a record of submissions for Iceland throughout the years. The songs have been judged by an expert committee, that decided which of those entries will eventually take part in the national final of the country.

In 2021, Iceland was represented by Daði og Gagnamagnið with their song “10 years” and managed to be ranked 4th. You can listen to the song below:

Italy: It’s official | Sanremo 2022 will have an audience!

Very pleasant and interesting news have just been brought to light by the host country of this year’s competition, Italy. As announced by the Italian authorities, the events at Teatro Ariston are considered the same as with any other theatrical show and thus the sale of tickets for the upcoming Sanremo festival is possible. This practically means that Sanremo 2022 will take place in the presence of the public, and of course with the provided security measures against the pandemic.

Preparations for Sanremo 2022 are progressing smoothly, with rehearsals already underway, the puzzle of the guests being completed slowly and any other pending issues being resolved. An important issue was whether the presence of the public would be possible at this year’s festival. Until now, italian law had banned music/concerts at Teatro Ariston. From January 12, however, these shows are equated with the other theatrical performances, which allow the presence of an audience. Hence RAI, without wasting any time, announced that from January 14, the online ticket sale will be possible.

A prerequisite for entering Teatro Ariston on the nights of the festival, however, apart from securing a ticket, will be having a super green pass, as it is called in Italy. This certificate is available only to those who have completed their vaccination against COVID-19 and less than six months have passed since then. That is, in case there is a longer period of six months from the completion of the vaccination, then the repeated dose is required for the renewal of the super green pass.

Although it is still too early, the measures taken by RAI for Sanremo, but also in general for all indoor spaces, means of transport, cafés, restaurants, etc., are very likely to apply during the Eurovision Song Contest in May.

Those who wish to buy a ticket for Sanremo 2022 can do so, from 14/01, by clicking here.

Sanremo 2022 will take place from 1 to 5 February.

Stay tuned to Eurovisionfun for all news regarding Sanremo 2022 and the italian representative for Eurovision 2022!

Germany: “Lied für Turin” is expected to take place at the beginning of March!

It looks like ARD has come to a conclusion that they will show the German preliminary round “Lied für Turin” within the first half of March.

Counting five placements below the 25th position, in the last six years of the Eurovision Song Contest, Germany has to step things up in the future. The German broadcaster has received harsh criticism, therefore, all the parties involved with Eurovision are now carefully planning their next steps towards Turin.

As announced two months ago by the Bavarian station Bayern3, that belongs to the wider network of ARD, “Lied für Turin” format returns. The Bavarian state radio invited all interested parties to submit their proposed entries, that could represent Germany at Eurovision 2022 by the 30th of November.

The Selection

According to Bayern3, the submitted songs will be examined by a relevant committee, which will then select the five entries that will compete in the grand final of “Lied für Turin”. This committee consists of executives of Bayern3, Antenne Brandenburg, Bremen 4, HR 3, MDR Jump, NDR 2, SR 1, SWR 3 and WDR 2, members of the German broadcasting network.

The big winner of the German national final will represent Germany in the 66th Eurovision Song Contest.

The information about the date of the German national final comes from a newly added job listing that came up yesterday, which shows that they are in search of an assistant receptionist for the beginning of March at the venue where “Lied für Turin” will take place in Berlin. However, ARD has not confirmed the exact date of the show so far.

Last year, Germany came 25th, with Jendrik performing his song “I Don’t Feel Hate”. The German entry received only 3 points from the jury voting and none from the televoting.
