Germany: Ryk talks about his sadness regarding the results of Das Deutsche Finale 2024!

Ryk is the artist that ended up in third place of Das Deutsche Finale 2024, the German national final for Eurovision 2024, and he commented bitterly on the results of the final.

The artist that begun as a favourite to win the German representation in Malmö, with his song “Oh Boy”, but after the fifth place in the international jury and the third place in the televoting, his win, was impossible. A loss that gave birth to many reactions.

In post in his personal Instagram account, he stated that:

“From the very bottom of my heart, I want to thank every single one of you for all the love, the support and the kindness you have shown me. It was the greatest pleasure and a huge honor to perform on that stage for a second time and for dreaming this dream anew. I am convinced that everything happens for a reason – but I can’t deny that my heart is broken.

Time is a great healer though! And this chapter is closed for now. I am thankful for an amazing experience, for new friends, for inspiring encounters and I am very proud of the piece of music and the act we created around it – I felt at home in my Northern Lights universe.

There’s a new path ahead of me waiting to be discovered and I can’t wait to see what happens along the way. For now I will head back up north into the Swedish forests to make peace with myself. And I will come back with a cleared mind, a loving heart and new melodies.”

Germany: Isaak and “Always On The Run” to Eurovision 2024!

Das Deutsche Finale 2024 is officially over and Germany now has its own artist, for the 68th Eurovision Song Contest, in May in Malmö, Sweden! The winner of the Grand Final of Das Deutsche Finale 2024 was Isaak with the song “Always On The Run” and will wave the German flag, as successor of Lord of the Lost!

Eight artists, who were selected by the German public broadcaster, as well as one more artist selected through the TV show “Ich Will Zum ESC!”, claimed the win in Das Deutsche Finale 2024, and at the same time the country’s representation in Eurovision 2024. In the end after the jury and the televote, the long-awaited representative of the country in this year’s contest was finally selected!

Barbara Schöneberger was once again the host of the German national final.

The show

The show started with a beautiful opening act by Barbara Schöneberger, pretending to be Loreen, and stepping on stage under the music of “Tattoo”. Αfter that, the nine contestants walked on the stage, in the style of a “Flag Parade”.

After that, the competition part of the national final started:

NinetyNine – “Love on a budget”

A very radio-friendly, mid-tempo song, that really doesn’t seem to be the one that will break the negative streak of Germany, but a great start for the show overall.

Leona – “Undream you”

A very beautiful ballad, written by Elsie Bay (MGP 2022, 2023), that the crowd in the studio seemed to have liked a lot, as the applauses didn’t stop for the whole performance.

Isaak Guderian – “Always on the run”

Great vocals, on a song that could give germany a result, much better than the previous years, under conditions.

GALANT – “Katze”

A very clever staging, on a somewhat weird song, that could very much be a joke entry.

Floryan – “Scars”

The wildcard of this year’s national final. Floryan performed a moving ballad that the crowd loved, and could easily be tonight’s surprise.

Bodine Monet – “Tears like rain”

Bodine is the second favourite for tonight’s win. A very beautiful performance, with vocals on point, that the crowd loved

RYK – “Oh boy”

The favourite to win the national final, gives a majestic performance with great vocals, but is that enough to give him the ticket to Malmö?

Marie Reim – “Naiv”

An amazing performance by Marie, that could easily get Germany out of the last places, and at the same time, being the first song they select in German after 2007.

Max Mutzke – “Forever strong”

The last performance of the night. Max Mutzke returns after 20 years and hopes to give Germany a result as good as the one he got back in Istanbul 2004.

The final result, was determined by 50% by the voting of the German public, and 50% by a series of international jury. In detail, the result of the international jury are:

  • Switzerland gave 12 points to Ryk
  • Croatia gave 12 points to Bodine Monet
  • Spain gave 12 points to Marie Reim
  • Lithuania gave 12 points to Max Mutzke
  • The United Kingdom gave 12 points to Isaak
  • Iceland gave 12 points to Galant
  • Austria gave 12 points to Isaak
  • Sweden gave 12 points to Ryk

The Jury votes for the German national final!

During the counting of the public votes, we watched a tribute to ABBA, by Barbara Schöneberger and the contestants of the national final.

The voting of the public gave the maximum 12 points to Isaak, giving him the ticket to Eurovision 2024!

Germany HoD: “We care about Eurovision”

German Head of Delegation for Eurovision, Ms. Alexandra Wolfslast has defended her role and Germany’s most recent participation in the music festival.

Germany’s most recent results in the Eurovision Song Contest have been far from perfect.  Ms. Wolfslat has been the Head of the Delegation since 2020.  During her term, Germany’s best result was 25th place in 2021 (second last).  Furthermore, the Big 5 country ended in last place in the last two editions of the festival.

However, she says that this bad streak is not attributable to a lack of commitment by the public broadcaster.  During an interview with The Euro Trip, Ms. Wolflstat talked about Eurovision and Germany’s current plans for the 2024 edition.

“We are trying to do as much as we can. I do hope that people see that we do care and that we’re pulling all the strings to get good contestants in the preselection and to Malmö.”

Germany will choose their representative via their national final Eurovision Song Contest – Das Deutsche Finale 2024, on Friday, February 16, 2024.  The public chose one of the contestants for the national final on the show, Ich will zum ESC!

Floryan won this pre-show and will join eight contestants in the German national final.  According to the HoD, using this format was part of the 2024 strategy to raise interest from the tv audience for Eurovision

“The normal German only knows about Eurovision in May, so that was one of the reasons to have this format [starting] earlier.”

Lord of The Lost represented Germany in 2023 with the song Blood and Glitter.  They ended in last place  in the Grand Final

Germany: This is the voting system for “Deutsche Finale 2024!”

In a few days from today, more specifically, on the 16th of February, the entry for Germany at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, in Malmö, is going to be decided through a live show on television, in which all of the nine candidates are going to perform their songs.

More specifically, this show is set to be aired live on Eurovision.de, while the alrwady known and famous Barbara Schöneberger is going to be the main host of the evening. The final result will be determined not only by the public, but also by an international jury.

Analytically speaking, the public’s voting procedure is not going to be conducted only through televoting, but through an online voting as well. The final result of the evening, hence the winning entry, is going to be judged by a split voting system between the public’s vote, holding the first 50% of the result, and the international jury’s vote, which will determine the rest 50% of the final outcome.

The more general international Jury will be consisted of eight different international juries in eight different countries, that will distribute their points according to the known Eurovision Song Contest system, from 1 to 12 points, while they will have already watched the performances’ rehearsals from the previous night. In any case of a draw, it is the public’s first place entry that will represent Germany in Malmö.

The entries

Just a few days before “Eurovision Song Contest – Das deutsche Finale 2024″, let’s remember all the nine entries”

Out of all the nine contestants, Max Mutzke is the only one who has a previous experience with the Contest, since he is the one who represented Germany back in 2004, in Istanbul, ended up at the eighth place with 93 points, singing “Can’t Wait Until Tonight“.

Until we find out which is going to be Germany’s next entry, take a look at the previous year’s one, Lord of the Lost and ‘Blood & Glitter” that came last with 18 points:
