EBU: Heads of delegation meet in Croatia to discuss Eurovision 2025!

The Heads of Delegation are meeting in Dubrovnik, Croatia to discuss about the Eurovision Song Contest 2025.

During this week, Heads of Delegation will start shaping next year’s Eurovision to be held in Switzerland.  As the deadline for countries to announce if they are participating in Basel approaches, the HoD reviews the procedures and EBU governance.

The attending broadcasters will find out more about the EBU’s plans for the competition during this week’s meeting.  Last summer a report was released for the delegations on the incidents that took place during the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.  Therefore, the recommendations of this report could be one of the topics of interest for the HoD.

We are looking forward to see what innovations and suggestions this first meeting will bring to the competition.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2025 will be held in Basel, Switzerland on May 13, 15 and 17.

While it is expected that the festival will again be used to choose Albania’s representative for Eurovision 2025, RTSH has not yet officially confirmed the selection process for the upcoming contest.

Netherlands: AVROTROS’ commentator believes that the country should compete in Eurovision 2025

The Dutch entry’s disqualification from the Eurovision final in May of last year, along with the events that unfolded around it, cast doubt on the country’s participation in the upcoming competition. Specifically, the Netherlands‘ public broadcaster officials have stated unequivocally that the country’s participation in Basel requires the adoption of a number of modifications that will deal with the “dysfunctions” of the competition. However in contrast to those remarks, Dutch commentator Cornald Maas declared that he wants the Netherlands to take part in the 2025 competition.

In particular, Cornald Mass, who criticised the European Broadcasting Union and its decisions following Joost Klein’s disqualification and made statements such as “F*ck the EBU”, argued that the Netherlands ought to compete in Eurovision 2025.

“I think the best answer is to participate and to cater for a good entry. That’s a better answer than staying at home, sulking, preaching to the choir, adding to your own annoyance for another year while the caravan moves on.

“I think that you should always take part, because Eurovision isn’t the European Broadcasting Union. That’s what I’m critical about, not about Eurovision itself.”

Romania: TVR has not yet decided whether to compete in Eurovision 2025

Following Montenegro’s return to the Eurovision Song Contest, there are now hopes that other South-Eastern European countries, who withdrew in previous years due to financial difficulties, may return to the competition. One of these countries is Romania, whose participation is still up in the air, as a representative for the country’s public broadcaster stated to Eurovoix.

More precisely, all options are still up for grabs as TVR has not yet decided whether or not Romania will compete in Eurovision 2025.

Until now, we do not have any decision for further participation on Eurovision Song Contest 2025.

The Netherlands: The majority believes that the country should not participate in Eurovision 2025!

The thriller of whether the Netherlands will be present at the 69th Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland goes on, and will probably last until the very last moment, on September 15, the deadline for the countries concerned to register to participate.

The country’s national broadcaster, AVROTROS, has more than a week to decide. However, the Dutch branch of RTL conducted a poll and if the decision to participate or not was in the hands of the public, then the country would be out, as 58% think it should stay away next year.

After the controversial disqualification of the Netherlands despite qualifying for the final, the decision seems to be difficult.

Eric Dekker from AVROTROS commented that:

“At the moment, the talks are still ongoing. We’re taking everything into consideration and we’re not making any statements until a decision is made.”

According to the results of the RTL survey, 58% believe that the country should abstain, 24% believe that it should participate and 18% have no opinion on the matter.

Katja Zwar, eurofan and podcast presenter at Telegraaf, also chooses the abstention.

“As much as it hurts me to say, I hope we won’t participate just to make a statement. It’s not nothing what happened, we were unjustly disqualified, while we had scored high. You can’t undo it, but the EBU has to come up with something right to make up for it.”

On the other hand, media expert Mark Koster believes that the country will eventually take part.

“I’m sure there will be a half-baked lame excuse from the EBU just in time, which is just enough for the AVROTROS to participate anyway. And then the whole riot will have been for nothing.”

In the event that the Netherlands takes part, 47% believe that Joost Klein should be the representative again.

Czechia: The search of the next representative for Εurovision 2025 begins!

Czechia is the next country to officially declare its presence at the 69th Eurovision Song Contest 2025 to be held in Basel, Switzerland!

In a statement, the country’s national broadcaster, ČT, gave the first information on the process to be followed. Specifically,  the deadline for the interested artists to submit entries is until September 30, 23:59 (CEST). In addition, Czech Television reserves the right to cancel the entire selection process of the Czech representative, if, for any reason, it does not take part in Eurovision 2025.

However, it is noteworthy that in the ČT announcement there is no mention of the ESCZ, the national final through which the participations of this central European country were determined.

In this year’s Eurovision held in Malmö, Aiko represented the country with the song “Pedestal” but, however, it did not make it to the grand final, as it finished in 11th place in the second semi-final.
